United in song
Two local schools, Woodfall
Primary and Neston High
School are proving that
friendship really is worth
singing about.
As a result of funding from
the British Council for a Global
Curriculum Project, the two
schools have been working
together with their partner
schools in Cape Town (St
James’ Primary and Bergvliet
High School) to write an
anthem celebrating their
friendship. The work put in by
students has been brought together by freelance composer Matt Baker (pictured) who
has been teaching the students the anthem prior to them working with The Harlequin
Project based at Chester University to record their debut CD.
Teachers from both schools together with a party of 5 students from Neston High
School travelled to Cape Town during the recent half term holiday and presented the
anthem at the International Afritwin Project Conference where it was greeted with great
enthusiasm by the assembled audience of Headteachers and senior staff from across
the Western Cape.

Breakfast with a conscience

As part of Fairtrade Fortnight,
the children of St. Winefride’s
Catholic Primary School took part
in a Fairtrade Breakfast. Children
enjoyed a breakfast of toast with
jam, marmalade or chocolate
spread, cereal bars and banana
bread washed down with hot
chocolate and fresh orange.
The breakfast followed work carried
out by the children, who learnt why
CAFOD and many other charities
helped to form the Fairtrade
Foundation nearly 20 yrs
ago.
Sainsbury’s, Neston,
donated bread, bananas and
Roy Wilson, a representative
from the store, held a
Fairtrade Quiz. The children
all made a donation towards
the breakfast, and any
money raised will be sent off
to CAFOD as part of their
fundraising for Lent.

Neston Riverside WI
The first meeting took place in February, at Little Neston Methodist Church and 46
ladies attended. The President is Julie Dawson. At the meeting local author Tim
Kendall was the speaker.
In March Ann Walker gave a vtalk on nutrition and gave members advice on what to
eat. A list was circulated to see if we were all eating enough calcium rich food to help
prevent osteoporosis. We will be serving coffee at the monthly Craft Fair in Neston
Town Hall on 2nd April and we will be holding a coffee morning on Monday, 11th April.
The speakers on 20th April will be Mark and Carole Philpot who will
talk about their Antarctica trip and the speaker in May will be Daniel
Dawson whose talk is entitled confessions of a former chef.

Ness and Little Neston WI

The speaker for the March meeting was Gavin Hunter, who
spoke about Lord of the Isles. Forthcoming visits include a coach trip to Holmfirth
and Yorkshire Sculpture Park in May, visit to Calke Abbey in July and a canal trip in
August. There is no meeting in April as the group are celebrating their 29th birthday
with a dinner at the Woodcote Hotel, Hooton.Meetings take place in St Michael’s
Church, Marshlands Road, Little Neston, at 7.30pm on the first Tuesday of the month.

Teachers earn pay-out

STAFF who lost their jobs when Mostyn
House School closed last year have
won an employment tribunal for an extra
pay-out. The action was brought by the
Association of Teachers and Lecturers.
The tribunal awarded them 90 days pay
after finding that the school had failed to
follow employment law when dismissing
staff.

health & beauty with Angela Bartlett

Q. I’ve been happily using the same skin care products for years,
but they don’t seem to be delivering the same results as they used
to. Do you have any suggestions?
A. Your skin is constantly changing and you need to adapt your
skin care products to suit the needs of your skin at that particular
time. Your skin can vary from month to month depending on
your health and exposure to environmental changes and certainly
from season to season. The skin care products needed during
the autumn and winter months can vary enormously from those
required during the spring and summer. More information on
how you can adapt your skin skin care routine o cope with
seasonal changes are to be found on the newsletter page at www.
angelabartlett.co.uk.
I think you have been lucky to have achieved results
from using the same products for such a long time,
but now spring is here I would advise you to visit your
professional skin care therapist for a good skin analysis
or Face Mapping and get an updated recommendation on
the best products to use for your skin condition.
Q. I’m getting married this month and want to develop a

Neston
Players
prepare
for a
society
wedding
Preparations are
in full swing for a very
important spring society
wedding, as Neston Players
eagerly rehearse for their
next production. “Lord
Arthur Savile’s Crime”, by
Constance Cox. The play will
be performed at Neston Civic
Hall from Wednesday 11th to
Saturday 14th May.
Based on the witty short story
by Oscar Wilde, a delightful
and marvellously funny
picture of Victorian upper
class morality is revealed in
the planning of Lord Arthur’s
wedding to the lovely Sybil.
The wedding day draws
nearer, but the bridegroom
must first commit a murder!
Set in Lord Arthur’s opulent
London residence, and
bursting with sumptuous
costumes and authentic
Victorian furniture, this
promises to be one of Neston
Players’ most ambitious and
lavish productions.

He has all of the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.
