Procedure

Requirements
The information in this publication requires the following specific software
versions:
• EMC NetWorker 7.4 Service Pack 1 or higher
• EMC Avamar server 3.7.2-57 or higher

NOTE: A Limited Availability (LA) version of Avamar server


3.7.2 is currently available for download at the following
URL:

Procedure
This publication describes how to configure an operational Avamar server for use
with EMC NetWorker 7.4 Service Pack 1. The entire procedure comprises three
separate tasks:
• Install and Configure an Avamar 3.7.2 Server at Your Site (page 2)
• Install NetWorker Linux Client Software on the Avamar Server (page 2)
• Modify Avamar Server mcserver.xml Preferences File (page 3)
• Add a “NetWorker” Domain to the Avamar Server (page 4)

Install and Configure an Avamar 3.7.2 Server at Your Site


Install and configure an Avamar 3.7.2 Server at your site according to the
instructions found in the correct Avamar System Installation Manual for your
computing platform.
Ensure that this server is running Avamar 3.7.2-57 or higher server software and
that it is fully operational.

Install NetWorker Linux Client Software on the Avamar Server

IMPORTANT: This task requires operating system root


privileges on the Avamar server utility node.

1. Open a command shell.


User=root 2. Log into the Avamar server utility node as user root.
3. Obtain the NetWorker Linux Client software according to the instructions in
your EMC NetWorker Release 7.4 Multiplatform Installation Guide.
4. Change to the directory containing the NetWorker software.

5. Install the NetWorker Linux Client software in the default location by


entering:
rpm -ivh --nodeps lgtoclnt-7.4-1.i686.rpm
6. Manually start the NetWorker daemons by entering:
/etc/init.d/networker start
7. Verify that NetWorker daemons successfully started by entering:
ps -ef | grep nsr
The nsrexecd daemon should be running.

Modify Avamar Server mcserver.xml Preferences File


Next, you must change the Avamar server mcserver.xml
“allow_duplicate_client_names” setting from false to true.
1. Open a command shell.
User=admin 2. Log into the Avamar server utility node as user admin.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that you are not still logged in as


root.

3. Load the admin OpenSSH key by entering:


ssh-agent bash
ssh-add ~admin/.ssh/admin_key
You are prompted to enter a passphrase.
4. Enter the admin user account passphrase.
5. Stop the administrator server (mcs) by entering:
dpnctl stop mcs
6. Wait for this command to complete.
7. Open /usr/local/avamar/var/mc/server_data/prefs/mcserver.xml in a Unix
text editor.
8. Change the “allow_duplicate_client_names” setting from false to true.
9. Save your changes.
10. Restart the administrator server (mcs) by entering:
dpnctl start mcs
11. Wait for this command to complete.

Procedure

Add a “NetWorker” Domain to the Avamar Server


Finally, you must create a new NetWorker domain on the Avamar server. The
suggested method for doing this is to use the Avamar Administrator graphical
management console.
1. Start Avamar Administrator.
2. Choose Navigation > Administration or click the Administration
launcher button.
The Administration window appears.

3. Click the Account Management tab.


4. In the tree, select the server icon (root domain).
5. Choose Actions > Account Management > New Domain… or click the
toolbar icon shown immediately to the left.
The New Domain dialog box appears.

6. Enter the following:

FIELD DESCRIPTION

New Domain Name NetWorker.

Contact Optional contact name.

Phone Optional contact telephone number.

Email Optional contact email address.

Location Optional contact location.

7. Click OK.
A confirmation message appears.
8. Click OK.
The confirmation message closes, the New Domain dialog box closes and the new
domain appears in the Account Management tree.
