12 (a) Complete the following table for the equation y = 2x2 – 5x – 3.

ii) the value of x when 2x2 – 5x – 3 = 0.

(d) Draw a suitable straight line on your graph to find all the values of x
which satisfy the equation 2x2 – 8x = 7 for -3 ≤ x ≤ 5.
State these values of x.

(c) By using a scale of 2 cm to 5 cm on the x-axis and 2 cm to a student on the

15 K, L and M are three points on the surface of the earth such that KL is a
diameter of the earth. K and M lie on the same parallel of latitude 60 0S.
The longitudes of K and M are 50 0W and 15 0W respectively.

(a) Find the location of L.


(b) Find the shortest distance between K and L , in nautical miles,
measured along the surface on the earth.
(c) An aeroplane took off from L at 0810 hours and flew towards K
using the shortest route. Then, it continued to fly due east and
reached M at 2358 hours. Calculate the average speed, in knots,
for the whole flight.

16 (a) Diagram below shows a right prism solid with rectangular base ABCD
on a horizontal plane. ABGFE is the uniform cross section of the prism.
Rectangles FGHJ and EFJK are inclined planes. Given that GF = FE.
