Mauritius invites Shobhit University

The island nation of Mauritius has invited the Shobhit University, Meerut
to set up campus at the Mauritian Capital. This invitation was extended by
a team of education ministry officials headed by minister of tertiary
education, Dr. R. Jeetah during their visit to Indian technical institutes
setting up campuses in Mauritius.
“The aim is to upgrade staff and faculties to make the country more
appealing to international and domestic students for pursuing higher
studies” said the Mauritian education ministry spokesperson.

Shobhit University management is waiting for the HRD ministry’s nod on

the project, which could enhance the two-way flow of students between
the two nations. “There are a number of glitches to be ironed out before
the proposal could take off like the setting up of a mechanism for
equivalence of degrees between the two countries so that smoother
educational exchange is possible.” said Mr. Devinder Narain.

A new smartphone chip prototype under development at the University of
California, San Diego will improve smartphone efficiency by making use of
"dark silicon" the underused transistors in modern microprocessors.
Recently UC San Diego computer scientists presented GreenDroid, the new
smartphone chip prototype at the HotChips symposium in Palo Alto. Dark
silicon refers to the huge swaths of silicon transistors on today's chips that
are underused because there is not enough power to utilize all the
transistors at the same time. The new GreenDroid chip prototype from
computer scientists at UC San Diego will deliver improved performance
through specialized processors fashioned from dark silicon. These
processors are designed to run heavily used chunks of code, called "hot
code," in Google's Android smartphone platform. One example of a conservation core. The small boxes in the
image are the pattern of logic gates that are spatially placed
over a small portion of the GreenDroid chip.
