Dear Mr. McCann, April 4, 2011

It has been two weeks since I wrote your office regarding breaches to the Code of
Conduct by the production company, “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” (Permit#
FF 193). Ms. Lenihan, after graciously apologizing last week, has informed me that all
correspondence of mine are now forwarded directly to you.

As of today, April 4, 2011, the tape remnants from Friday March 25th “clean up” still
remain on the majority of signposts and at least one tree on Milton St., Manhattan Ave.
and Franklin Ave. The following link documents the current outstanding situation:

I am speechless and can only come to the conclusion that your office puts a higher value
on the commercial interests of NYC than the residents who live here. I assume it is the
beauty of Milton Street that attracts the film industry and ironically it is the film industry
that degrades it.

It should have taken one phone call from your office to rectify the situation and have the
tape on the sign posts removed in a timely manner but evidently this request was not
made or it was made but not followed.

I also requested that the permit for this production company be revoked not only for the
poor cleanup but also for the reasons listed and documented below. After seeing news
reports of “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” filming in Fort Green Brooklyn and
lower Manhattan through out the week, I will assume my request was denied.

I believe my efforts deserve some sort of reply but at this point, sadly, expect nothing.

Sincerely,

Rolf Carle

2. 3/25/11- After film completion, tape was left on over 25 signposts and one tree. The
tape has remained as of April 4. 2011 over one week since the film shoot’s completion.
* “…Clean up after your shoot. Make a clean sweep of the area to ensure that nothing is
left behind, including equipment, garbage, all resident letters, NO PARKING signs, VTU
signs (and tape) that your production posted…”

7. 3/25/11-Generators running throughout Milton St. and Franklin Ave, it also becomes
clear that generators exhaust is vented into tree branches and peoples homes. These
trucks are clearly too big for this street.
* “…Do not park generator trucks or campers with running generators in front of
residential buildings if possible.”

8. 3/25/11-Catering tent blocks side walk when shooting takes place across the street,
both sides, blocked pedestrian access. There are many senior citizens on Milton Street
that were forced to walk in the street.
* “…Craft service tents are permitted in curb lanes only, not on sidewalks, unless
specified on the filming permit…”
