INTRODUCTION
Plants differ with respect to their soil pH and nutrient needs. Soils vary considerably in their
capability to meet a plant’s nutritional needs depending on factors such as soil parent material,
soil texture and structure, the amount of organic matter, biological activities, regional climate,
and current growing conditions. Soil testing plays an important role in crop production and
nutrient management. Taking a soil test and using the recommendations that come with it will
help us to know type of soil, its Munsell color chart and others.
OBJECTIVE
Auger, measuring tape, plastic beg, shovel, Munsell color chart, marker pen.
PROCEDURE
1. The soil samples were taking by using auger at the depth of 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm. The
soil colours were matching by using Munsell Colour Chart to determine the soil colour.
2. The soil samples was placed in the plastic bags and labelled them according to the area,
soil depth, and your group’s number.
4. The pestle and porcelain was used. The soil samples were crushed into small sizes. The
soil samples were make sure are free from any dead roots or rubbish.
DATA
QUESTIONS
Our samples color for dry soil depth 0-20cm is reddish yellow, while wet soil is yellow in
colour. Then, soil depth 20-40 cm for dry soil is reddish yellow and for wet soil is reddish
yellow too.
2. How can you relate the soil color to the fertility status of the soil.
Darker colour of soil more fertile because have high organic matter which coat the soil
particles. Organic matter content in the soil wills high the cation exchange capacity which
cation exchange capacity is ability to hold nutrient.
The soil sample is necessary to keep in the air-tight bottle because to retain the fertility of
soil. Next, to maintain the freshness and moisture the soil sampling
4. What is the purpose of your soil sampling?
The purpose of our soil sampling is to know the colour of each type of soil. depends on
different of depth of soil sampling.
DISCCUSION
From this, we can identify the soil colour by different depth of soil. The soil colour was
determined by using Munsell colour chart book which content colour chip by three components
are hue, value, and chroma.
CONCLUSION
Soil sampling very important to recognize its characteristic. With, this activity, each student
know how to take the soil sample and know the color of soil by using Munsell color chart.
