Ames Arms Newsletter ISSUE 4

Over the last few months we have made alterations to all that is
Ames Army. The most obvious of which being the name. We
have now moved forward with the new name Ames Arms. This
name reflects how many people are supporting us and how
grateful we are. As the saying goes “many hands make light
work”.
So, due to this new direction, we are completely revamping the
website, the blog and as you can see the newsletter. Please be
patient as the website will take a short time to get up and
NZL 2.4m sinking on the last day of Sail Melbourne running, but please be assured that the contact details below
are accurate and updated. I hope you enjoy the new look and if
you have any suggestions please feel free to contact me.

Sail Sydney took place from the 6th to the 9th of December 2010 on
Sydney Harbor. This event is part of the „Sail Down Under Series‟ and
this year was the first year that SKUD18 took part in this event. A few
hiccups at the start, but everything fell into place by the first race. Three
countries competed and seven crews overall. The competition was
steady and it was good to see other countries coming to our side of the
world to compete.

The conditions were reasonable for 90% of the races with light winds,
the second last day proving to be a little more difficult with wind gusts
nudging 25 knots putting all crews through their paces.

Thank you to John Price from Sailability Rushcutters, who worked

extremely hard to ensure the SKUD18 was included in this event, we
look forward to returning next year to Sail Sydney

Results: Great Britain 1st New Zealand 2nd and Australia 3rd (Lindsay and
I)

ISAF World Cup, Sail Melbourne

From the 12th to the 18th of December Sail Melbourne took place out of
Sandringham Yacht Club.

Throughout the week we experienced everything from 0-5 knots up to

35-45 knots. This did not just put the crews through their paces, but also
our equipment. Thankfully our boat came out relatively unscathed as did
Lindsay and I. This form of weather gave us experience in learning how
to be flexible in adverse conditions whilst remaining focused.

Thank you to the Sandringham Yacht Club for holding events for the
SKUD 18 class over the last few years and I look forward to returning
and competing again.

Results: Great Britain 1st, Australia 2nd (Lindsay and I) and Australia 3rd.
