How a common citizen can fight corruption?

I tried to find matter on this topic on internet but did not find anything concrete.

Well, in my opinion there can be three levels of action that can be taken by an
ordinary individual.

A I do not want to lay my life but yet want to fight corruption

Do not –

– believe that nothing can be done about corruption and it is a global,

universal and unavoidable phenomenon.

– believe that corruption at higher level does not affect you.

– vote corrupt politicians.

– show respect for a corrupt official, politician, journalist etc.

– be friendly with a corrupt person

– invite a corrupt person for any official or family function.

– attend functions organized by corrupt persons.

– attend functions organized to felicitate or honour corrupt persons.

– attend election meetings of corrupt politicians

– be ignorant about anti-corruption laws.

– vote parties whose election manifesto is silent about issue of

corruption.

– give dowry.

– accept dowry.

– favour your relatives or friends

– bribe any one.

– jump queue or red signal.

– believe that happiness can be bought and comes from material

things only.

Do-

– heed to Mahatma Gandhi's advise “Non-cooperation with evil is as much

a duty as is co-operation with good”
– ask for receipt if you pay for goods or services
– stand in queue and wait for your turn.
– do object if you find any one jumping the queue(jumping queue may
not be a hard core corruption act but objecting to wrong deeds will
give courage to you and others and it will discourage others as they
will realize that people do object when see wrong things happening)
– lodge complaint with CVC (http://164.100.31.20/portal/web?)
– You can also register your mobile with CVC and register complaint
(http://182.18.181.234/vigeye/)
– try to lead life of austerity. If you have money to spare do not make brazen
show of it in marriage ceremonies or other such functions. Make donations to
organizations with integrity or use it to establish a school or a charity mission.
– remember that Swami Vivekananda once said “Unselfishness is more paying,
only people have not the patience to practise it”
B Middle path : A step ahead

• Build public opinion against corruption and corrupt person. Inform your
family members, friends, neighbors, students, servants, employees, etc.
about channels of corruption, remedies etc.

• Boycott corrupt persons.

If you have any firm information about corrupt persons pass it on to

persons with integrity and willingness to act against corruption (media
persons, activists, whistleblowers, NGO)

C. I can go to any extent

• Seek information under RTI Act, 2005

• Complain higher officials (every office has a Chief vigilance Officer and
many states have Vigilance Commissioners, a list at the end of this
document).

• Contact officials of Anti Corruption Bureau to assist in nabbing of corrupt

officials.

• File a police case.

• Contact print/electronic media to report cases of corruption.

• Seek remedy from Honourable court

• Organize press conference of public meetings to expose corrupt

bureaucrats, politicians etc.

• Organize rallies or protests.

• Write articles to create awakening and to expose corruption.
