Putting Officers to Work: National Treasurer

Added Fundraising Asset, Financial Advisor, Resource to State

Federations

Our position from the beginning has advocated for a leadership team that leads from
the front lines and is actively engaged in the day-to-day operations of the College
Republican National Committee. The bottom line is, we need officers who don’t just
perform ceremonial duties, but approach their positions like political professionals
who understand the size and scope of our organization. One such position is that of
the Treasurer, who under our plan will be engaged and working hard to secure the
long-term financial stability of the CRNC.

Establishment of a Finance Committee

In order to effectively tap into the large donor base that exists for our organization, we
propose the creation of a finance committee, which will be comprised of the same type
of people that a national campaign may employ in their efforts. This network could
include major donors themselves, state and national political operatives and talented
individuals within our own ranks. Simply put, national political organizations cannot
survive without a financial network on par with the political network they build. We
need to escape the mentality of working year-by-year, and focus on building a
national network which will grow cycle-to-cycle.

The Treasurer will work hand-in-hand with the Chairman in recruiting members of this
committee, so that it is functional and effective going into the 2012 election cycle. With
hard work, this network will not only provide us the resources to grow the operating
budget, but will add stability and flexibility for years to come.

Responsibilities of the Treasurer

Under the current system, the Treasurer has very few delineated duties. Under this
plan, we will maximize the capabilities of this national position, utilizing every
available resource they can provide. This includes:

 An emphasis on fundraising, with the Treasurer serving as an additional

surrogate to potential donors and being responsible for the creation and
maintenance of the finance committee.

 Work to develop the national financial plan for the organization, with the
finance director and accountant working closely to maintain the day-to-day

operations. This will be a long-term financial plan that begins to look at the life
span of the CRNC rather than the current election cycle in a vacuum.

 Be a resource to state federations and chapters, providing insight and tools

for fundraising to help grow state federations and chapters.

The College Republican National Committee, while already one of the largest 527
groups in nation, can and should be much bigger. Fundraising is one of the most
important activities that the national officers of the CRNC engage in, yet also one of
the most difficult. It is very important to ensure that only people who are qualified,
trusted, and willing to work hard represent the CRNC in raising funds for the
organization. The InnovateCRNC coalition is made up of these types of people: we are
College Republicans who do not just talk about raising money, but actually have the
receipts to show it.

Over the course of the national CRNC campaign, my role has been to raise money and
ensure it is spent appropriately. Trying to keep a national campaign fluid is a tough
thing to do considering the size, scope, and length of time that this race has been
going on for, but it is something that we have excelled in. As your National Treasurer, I
will bring the same passion that accompanies my fundraising abilities for this
campaign and my chapter to the CRNC, and truly ensure that our budget and
capabilities for 2011 and 2012 increase exponentially.

Jonathon Snyder and I will work tirelessly to expand our donor base. We must dive
deep into the upper-echelons of the Republican Party. This includes soliciting
contributions from people who have never given to the College Republican National
Committee or even the RNC. We cannot just rely on direct mail firms and inconsistent
Internet donations to expand our organization. We must be as aggressive as ever to
ensure that going into 2012, we have more than enough funds to kick Obama out of
the White House. Partnering with other 527s is another great way to increase funding,
but if our national officers don’t know how to effectively solicit such money and use it
efficiently and honestly, then our partnerships will be short-lived. This is why a CRNC
Finance Committee, as proposed in our policy release today, is so important. When the
most respected leaders in business and politics join our finance committee, it will show
our current and prospective donors that we mean business, and will allow us to
transcend what it means to be a student run organization. Together, with the other
national officers and national board, we will make the CRNC the go-to organization for
Republicans of all stripes to give money.
