This competition is being organized in the memory of Late Shri Raja Ram Agrawal,
AIFTP(NZ) Senior Advocate and Former Advocate General Govt. of U.P. He was designated Senior
Advocate in August 1973 and was appointed to the cove ted position of Advocate General
VICE – PRESIDENT of Uttar Pradesh from March 1976 to May 1977. Thereafter, he was elected as Chairman

New Delhi of the U.P State Bar Council from 1972 to 1975 and again from 1976 to 1977. His notable
contribution was the introduction of group insura nce schemes for the advocates in the

State of U.P. Shri Agrawal started practice in Supreme Court from the year 1980. He left
New Delhi for his heavenly abode on 30.06.2000.
Land mark cases of Good Year India v. State of Haryana ; Video Electronics v. State of
Punjab; Pine Chemicals v. State of Jammu & Kashmir , Hotel Balaji v. State of Andhra
Pradesh and Govind Sugar v. State of Bihar are few of the cases that had been argued by
FACULTY OF LAW Shri Agrawal who had appeared for the assessee. He, with his crystal clear understanding

of law; lucid exposition and interpretation of the complicated provisions of tax laws,
helped in evolving various principles of direct and indirect tax law and constitutional law.
