Quick Reference Guide # 21 Global Survey Limited

Purpose: Configuring SDR33 to Leica TPS

Product: TPS300, 400, 700, 800, 1100 & 1200.

Notes: This guide provides the steps required to configure the SDR33 and Leica
Total stations to communicate with each other. Make sure SDR firmware ver. 4.26
also BIOS ver. must be higher than 3.01

1. Configure SDR.
a. From the SDR main menu, select (F1) FUNC
b. Select INSTRUMENT, press OK
c. Make the following settings:
i. Type Total Stn
ii. Model TC/TCM
d. Select COMMUNICATIONS, press OK
e. From the Communications screen, select (F2) COM, press OK
f. Make the following settings
i. Port Top
ii. Modem No
iii. Baud rate 2400
iv. Word Length 7
v. Parity Even
vi. Stop Bit 1
vii. Output Delay 0
Press OK
g. SDR33 is now configured to work with the instruments
h. Finally Configure instrument to work with SDR

2. TPS 300 Series


a. Press SHIFT key then the PROG/MENU key
b. From the MENU screen, select ALL SETTINGS
c. From the SETTINGS screen, select SYSTEM SETTINGS.
d. From the SYSTEM SETTINGS screen, make the following setting
i. Data Output RS232
e. From the SYSTEM SETTINGS screen, press SHIFT, Then PGDN, press
SHIFT PGDN again, make the following settings
i. GSI format GSI8
f. From the SETTINGS screen, make the following settings
i. Baud rate 2400
ii. Data Bits 7
iii. Parity Even
iv. Endmark CL/LF
v. Stopbits 1
g. TPS 300 now configured to SDR33

3. TPS 400 / 800 Series


a. Press MENU
b. From MENU 1/3, press (F2) SETTING
c. From SETTINGS 1/4 press PAGE, PAGE, PAGE (page 4 of 4), make the
following settings
i. Data Output RS232
ii. GSI 8/16 GSI 8
d. Press (F4) OK
e. From MENU 1/3, press PAGE
f. From MENU 2/3, press (F2) COMM PARAMETERS
g. From COM PARAMETERS make the following settings,
i. Baud rate 2400
ii. Data Bits 7
iii. Parity Even
iv. Endmark CL/LF
v. Stopbits 1
h. Press (F4) OK
i. TPS 400 or 800 now configured to SDR33

4. TPS 700 Series


a. Press SHIFT MENU
b. Select, 3 ALL SETTINGS, press ENTER
c. Select, 1 SYS SETTINGS, press ENTER
d. Press SHIFT PGDN
e. Make the following settings
i. Data Output RS232
ii. GSI Format GSI8
f. Highlight SET, press ENTER,
g. From the ALL SETTINGS screen highlight, 4 PC COMMUNICATIONS,
press ENTER
h. Make the following settings
i. Baud rate 2400
ii. Data Bits 7
iii. Parity Even
iv. Endmark CL/LF
v. Stopbits 1
i. Highlight SET, press ENTER
j. Highlight EXIT
k. TPS 700 now configured to SDR33

5. TPS 1100 Series


a. From the Main Menu select (5) CONFIGURATION
b. From the CONFIGURATION screen, select (2) COMMUNICATION MODE
c. From the COMMUNICATION MODE screen, select (1) GSI parameters
d. From the GSI parameters make the following settings
i. Baud rate 2400
ii. Data Bits 7
iii. Parity Even
iv. Endmark CR/LF
v. Stopbits 1
e. From the COMMUNICATIONS MODE, press SHIFT then (F6) QUIT
f. TPS 1100 now configured to SDR33

6. TPS 1200 Series


a. From Main Menu select (5) CONFIG…
b. From CONFIGURATION screen, select (4) INTERFACES
c. From INTERFACES highlight GSI OUTPUT and press (F3) EDIT
d. From GSI OUTPUT make the following settings
i. Use Interface YES,
ii. Port PORT 1.
e. Then press (F5) DEVICE
f. From DEVICES (F6) PAGE to OTHERS, highlight RS232 GSI, then press
(F1) CONT
g. From GSI OUTPUT make the following settings
i. Protocol RS232 GSI
ii. GSI Format GSI8 Polar&Cart
h. Press (F1) CONT and press (F1) CONT again
i. TPS1200 now configured to SDR33
