This document explains how to install and run the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0/8.98
Standalone Client, hereafter referred to as Standalone Client. This version of the
Standalone Client supports only the Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition (SSE) as the
local database.
To install the Standalone Client that supports Oracle Enterprise Edition (OEE) as the
local database, you will need to obtain a separate download of the installer and follow the
instructions in the document JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0/8.98 Standalone Client
Using Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) and Oracle Enterprise Edition (OEE) Database.
The Standalone Installation Guides are available in this document on My Oracle Support:
Install the requested database if it is not already installed and the Standalone
Client.
Analyze and correct any problems that arise during the installation.
After installing the Standalone Client, you must install a supported Java
Development Kit (JDK) for the Standalone Client.
Run the web client as part of the Standalone Client and troubleshoot any
startup errors.
Refer to the Glossary in this document for definitions of terms and acronyms.
Chapter 2. Prerequisites
Customers must conform to the supported platforms for the release as detailed in the JD
Edwards EnterpriseOne Minimum Technical Requirements, as described in this
document on My Oracle Support:
The MTRs are contained in an attachment within document 705409.1 that is entitled JDE E1
Tools 8.9x Client.
The computer on which you are installing the Standalone Client needs to meet the MTRs of
all types of clients described in this section. Therefore you should review and ascertain that
your machine meets the requirements listed in these topics of the client MTR document:

Additional Considerations
1. Be sure the MTRs are met before starting the Standalone Client installation.
2. JDK 1.5 is required. Use the latest available update to JDK 1.5.
Notes: Renamed JDK. Several Java products were renamed such that
nomenclature of the release levels no longer is prefixed with 1. That
is, the JDK release formerly referred to as JDK 1.6 is now JDK 6,
while JDK 1.5 is now JDK 5, and so on.
Although JDK 5.0 with Java EE may be used, the JDK 5.0 for SE is
smaller and may be used on the Standalone Client. On the Oracle
download site this is called JDK 5.0 Update 22 (the Update
number may be different; use the latest update).
JDK 6 not validated. JDK 6 and higher have not been validated
with EnterpriseOne as of December, 2010.
Use JDK – not JRE. The Java Development Kit (JDK) is required
for the Standalone Client – not just the Java Runtime Environment
(JRE). The JDK contains a JRE. Ensure you download the
complete JDK.
3. Microsoft Visual Studio is not required unless you are building business
functions. The installation of the Standalone Client installs the Microsoft libraries
that are necessary to run EnterpriseOne, but if you plan to build business
functions, you will need the compiler and additional libraries that Visual Studio
provides.
5. Standalone Client does not require Software Protection Codes (SPCs) to run so
you will not need to perform the steps for applying SPCs that previous
EnterpriseOne releases required.
6. This version of the Standalone Client supports only the Microsoft SQL Server
Express Edition (SSE) as the local database.
This version of the Standalone Client does not support Oracle Enterprise Edition
(OEE) as the local database.
7. If you previously had SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (SSE) installed as the
local database and you are reinstalling the Standalone Client, you do not have to
uninstall the database first. However, if you need to reinstall the database for
some reason, follow the instructions in the section of this guide entitled:
Uninstalling the Standalone Client.
Depending on several factors, you can install the Standalone Client using one of these
methods:
Note: SEE Local Database. You cannot install directly from a DVD. The reason
is because you must copy the Microsoft JDBC drivers to the Standalone
Client installer location prior to running the installer, thus allowing the
installer to function properly.
Perform these steps if you are copying the installation DVD to a hard drive, either locally
or to a network location. You may want to do this so additional users can install from a
single location.
1. On the hard drive onto which you want to copy the installation DVD, create a
temporary installation directory. The recommended name is:
\Standalone_9.00
2. Copy the contents of the installation DVD to the temporary installation directory
you created in Step 1 above.
Complete these instructions if you are downloading the Standalone Client software from
the Oracle E-Delivery web site:
http://edelivery.oracle.com
If you are installing the Standalone Client from DVD or a network share location, and
therefore have performed the steps in the preceding section of this chapter, you can skip
this section and proceed to the following chapters as applicable for your installation:
Chapter 4. Installing the JDBC Database Driver
Chapter 5. Installing the Standalone Client
2. Open the E-Delivery web site, continue through the screens, and select these
values on the Media Pack Search screen:
Select a Product Pack: JD Edwards EnterpriseOne
Platform: Microsoft Windows (32 bit)
4. In the results grid, click the radio button next to the proper description.
For English, select this:
5. Click Continue.
6. Locate the item with the description of the Standalone Client which you want to
download. The available language and database combinations are:
JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0 Update 2 Standalone-Microsoft
Local Database
Note: Language. If the description of the download item does not contain the
word Language, the language of the Standalone Client is English.
If the description of the download item contains the word Language, the
language of the Standalone Client includes both English and other supported
languages.
7. Click the Download button next to the item that you wish to download.
Note: Multiple Part Downloads. Due to the maximum file size restrictions for
downloads on E-Delivery, you will need to download multiple parts for a
selected part number.
8. Save the .zip file to the temporary installation directory you created in Step 1.
If you followed the recommendation, this is the directory name:
\Standalone_9.00
9. After you finish downloading the first item, labeled (Part 1 of 2), select the
corresponding row for the second item labeled (Part 2 of 2) and click the
Download button.
10. Again, save the .zip file to the same directory where you saved the previous
.zip file.
11. After you finish downloading all parts of your item, use Microsoft Windows
Explorer to navigate to the temporary folder and double click the first .zip file.
12. When prompted, extract the contents of this file to the temporary installation
directory you created in Step 1. If you followed the recommendation, the
directory is named:
\Standalone_9.00
Note: Extract Option. When extracting, be sure to click in the checkbox to enable
this option:
Note: JDBC Drivers. You must download the JDBC drivers for SSE and place
them into the proper location under the temporary installation directory (for
example, \Standalone_9.00). This procedure is described in the next
section of this guide entitled: Installing the JDBC Database Driver (SSE
Local Database Only).
This example screen illustrates the directory structure for when the .zip files
are extracted into the recommended temporary installation directory
(Standalone_9.00):
Database drivers are used to connect to a database installed locally on your Standalone
Client workstation. These are called JDBC database drivers and are specific to the type
of database that you are using.
You must download the appropriate JDBC driver from Microsoft before installing the
Standalone Client. To complete this task, follow the steps in this chapter. You should
check applicable licensing requirements before downloading Microsoft SSE database
drivers.
1. Change to the temporary installation directory where you copied the installation
DVD or the installation download for Standalone Client. If you followed the
recommendation this directory is:
c:\Standalone_9.00
4. To obtain the JDBC drivers from Microsoft, navigate to the Microsoft Download
Center or use this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads
6. Select the highest versioned (most current) driver from the list.
Note: SQL Server 2005. Ensure that you select the driver for SQL Server 2005,
and not any other version of SQL Server such as 2000 or 2008.
7. Perform the steps necessary to download the selected driver and extract it to the
JDBC driver download directory that you created in Step 3 (if you followed the
recommendation, the directory is c:\TEMP\JDBC).
Note: JDBC Driver Directory Considerations. Be sure to copy the JDBC driver
to the \ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\JDBC folder as documented
above before installing the Standalone Client. When executing, the
Standalone Client installer programmatically copies the driver from the
above directory to the \misc directory under your installation directory.
The \misc is the correct directory for Standalone Client, regardless of any
other documentation that might state that you must copy the driver to some
other location, such as \system\oc4j\j2ee\home\applib directory
under your installation directory.
If for some reason you must copy in the JDBC driver after installing the
Standalone Client (for example, you obtained a newer driver), you must
manually copy it into the \misc directory under your installation directory.
Warning: You must ensure that only the specified version of this file
exists and if necessary you must delete any lower versions of this file.
You can install the Standalone Client from a copy of the DVD or a download from E-
Delivery. Refer to Chapter 3. Installation Methods for additional details.
Notes: Assumptions. The instructions in this chapter assume you are installing
from a copy of the DVD.
These instructions assume that the drive letter is “C”. Substitute the correct
drive letter where appropriate.
If you are installing from a copy of the DVD or a download from E-Delivery,
the installation program will be in the directory into which you copied the
DVD or into which you expanded the downloaded files. If you followed the
recommendation, this directory is:
c:\Standalone_9.00
Note: Vista and Greater on Microsoft Windows. When running the installation
program on Vista and higher versions of Microsoft Windows, you must right
click on the executable and select Run as Administrator.
Note: Non-English Versions. Due to the maximum SSE database size restrictions,
the SSE non-English versions of the Standalone Client are segmented into
three different installations. In this case, there is a different Install
Manager welcome screen. In such cases, you must follow slightly different
steps as described in the section of this guide entitled: Installing the
Languages Standalone Client for SSE. Upon completion, when you finish
those instructions, continue with Step 3 below.
EnterpriseOne E900
7. Click Next.
8. If SSE has already been installed, the above screen is not displayed. If the above
screen is displayed, click Next.
9. On Client Workstation Setup Type, in the Select Setup Type section, ensure this
radio button is selected:
Development
10. Optionally you can specify the installation path in the Install Path field or accept
this default path, which is C:\E900.
If the local database software has not already been installed, at this point in the
process the Standalone Client installer installs it.
Note: Java Compiler Not Correctly Installed. You will receive this message
because you cannot install the Java compiler until after the Standalone Client
has been installed and the correct directory structure exists as a result of the
installation. Until the Java compiler is correctly installed the Web
Development environment cannot function correctly.
In some versions of the Standalone Client, this message may indicate that the
JDK should be placed into the <E1_install_dir>\system\jdk\system
folder. This is incorrect. The JDK should be placed as a subfolder in the
<E1_install_dir>\system folder. For example:
C:\E900\system\JDK.
Although this problem has been fixed, you may see this erroneous message if
you are running an older version of the Standalone Client installer that does
not have the fix.
13. On Client Workstation Setup, click OK to finish the installation of the Standalone
Client.
Warning: Examine the Installer Logs. Regardless of whether you get the above message
indicating the Standalone Client installer succeeded, you should always check
the logs before you attempt to run the Standalone Client. The installer log file is
called:
c:\jdeinst.log file
You should address any errors indicated in this log file with the exception of the
following benign errors:
AddWorkstationInfoFile(): Directory permissions on
'\package_inf\feature_inf\VS2005RTL_1.INF' are invalid.
AddWorkstationInfoFile(): Directory permissions on
'\Package_inf\Feature_inf\WebDevelF_1.inf' are invalid.
14. Perform the tasks in the section of this guide entitled: Chapter 6. Installing the
Required JDK.
This section describes these known exceptions that can occur under various
circumstances while running the Standalone Client installer:
One or More JDBC Drivers Not Found on the Deployment Server
Java Compiler Not Correctly Installed
After you have clicked the Finish button, the installer may display the above information
screen entitled: EnterpriseOne HTML Web Server / OC4J Installer if the following are
true:
One or more JDBC drivers were not found on the deployment server. If you will use a
database other than Oracle, please contact your administrator to copy the appropriate JDBC
drivers to your local machine after the installation process is finished.
2. When the installation is through, complete the steps in the section of this guide
entitled: Chapter 4. Installing the JDBC Database Driver.
3. Run the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Web Development Client (also called H4A)
installer which is located in this directory:
c:\Standalone_9.00\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\OH4A1013_setup.exe
1. Run the InstallManager.exe for the SSE version of the multiple languages
Standalone Client installer.
Note: Vista and Greater on Microsoft Windows. When running the installation
program on Vista and higher versions of Microsoft Windows, you must right
click on the executable and select Run as Administrator.
2. Locate the language you wish to install and select the applicable link for the
column (Option A, Option B, or Option C) in which the language resides:
Select an option to install the EnterpriseOne E900 Standalone Client
Option A Option B Option C
English English English
Dutch Arabic Danish
French Czech Korean
German Finnish Traditional Chinese
Italian Greek Simplified Chinese
Japanese Hungarian Polish
Portuguese Norwegian Swedish
Spanish Russian
Turkish
3. Continue with the rest of the installation instructions in the section Installing the
Standalone Client.
Note: Changing Languages. If you later need to change the group of languages to
use, you can:
After installing the Standalone Client, you must install a supported Java Development Kit
(JDK) for the Standalone Client. The Standalone Client installation installs a version of
the Oracle Application Server that requires a JDK. Currently, Oracle Corporation cannot
distribute a JDK with this Standalone Client installer, so you must download and install a
JDK. The JDK must reside in a directory on the Standalone Client workstation.
To complete this task, you must obtain the required JDK from Oracle and install it on the
Standalone Client machine. Refer to the Minimum Technical Requirements section to
determine the correct JDK required for this installation.
Note: Network Connectivity. It is strongly advised that the machine on which you
are installing has network connectivity when installing your JDK. This is
because various updates and libraries may be required from the Oracle site as
the installation proceeds. If the machine does not have network connectivity,
the installer may appear to complete normally, but the complete directory
structure required for Standalone Client may not be present.
1. On the Standalone Client, create these two directories in which you will place the
JDK:
c:\Temp\JDK
<E1_install_dir>\system\JDK
where <E1_install_dir> is the directory in which you installed the
Standalone Client.
2. Determine the required JDK version specified in the Minimum Technical
Requirements and Additional Considerations sections for the Standalone Client.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
4. On the displayed web page, locate the required JDK version. If the current
release of the JDK version is greater than that specified by the MTRs, you may
need to drill down further on the Oracle web site. For example, from the main
index there may be a tab or a link for Previous Releases of the JDK.
5. Once you have located the requisite JDK, click the download button, review the
license agreement and if you choose to accept, select the Accept option to accept
the license agreement.
11. Install the JDK into the directory that you created in step 1:
c:\Temp\JDK
Note: JDK Installation Directory. You cannot select the same folder
where the install executable is located; the installation destination
folder must be different.
12. Accept all other default values during the installation setup, although if desired
you can deselect all Browser Registration options.
c:\Temp\JDK
Note: Vista and Greater on Microsoft Windows. When running the installation
program on Vista and higher versions of Microsoft Windows, you must right
click on the shortcut or executable and select Run as Administrator.
Optionally, you can double click the program activConsole.exe from this
directory:
<E1_install_dir>\system\bin32
2. Enter the default user ID, which is DEMO and the default password, which is also
DEMO. If the environment and role fields are shown, you can accept the
defaults, which are environment DEMO900 and role *ALL.
3. If you have installed any Oracle Business Accelerators (OBA), click the Options
button to display the environment and role fields. In this case, you should enter
the role: DEMOROLE and take the default environment: DEMO900.
Note: Startup Time. You should allow sufficient startup time for the JD
Edwards EnterpriseOne background process jdenet_n.exe,
which acts as the security server on the Standalone Client. Ensure
this program has completed its initialization steps before you click
OK on the logon screen.
General
If you have any trouble running the Standalone Client, turn on additional logging and
rerun the Standalone Client.
3. If the column headed PID is not displayed, use this procedure to turn it on:
c. Click OK.
6. In the [DEBUG] section, change the value of the Output key to FILE, as shown
below:
[DEBUG]
Output=FILE
7. Note the names of the log files specified for the JobFile and DebugFile keys in the
Debug section so you can locate them when needed.
Problem:
You get an error (either in a pop-up window or in the logs) indicating that the Standalone
Client could not connect to the security server.
Resolution:
1. Try again to sign on. The security server (process jdenet_n.exe) may have
simply been slow in starting causing the activConsole.exe to time out.
2. By default, the Standalone Client attempts to start the web client at the same time
that activConsole.exe starts. This could cause the security server (process
jdenet_n.exe) to take too long to start causing the activConsole.exe to
time out.
You can specify that the web client should start only when you attempt to bring
up the Web menu (described in the next section entitled: Still Cannot Connect to
the Security Server). To do so, follow these steps:
a. Run the Microsoft Windows Task Manager.
[LOCALWEB]
StartAppServer=ONDEMAND
e. Rerun activConsole.exe.
Problem:
After doing the above, you again get an error (either in a pop-up window or in the logs)
indicating that the Standalone Client could not connect to the security server.
Resolution:
Verify that the local database service(s) is running using this procedure:
If not, click on it and then click Action > Start in the menu.
c. Rerun activConsole.exe .
The Standalone Client should automatically sign you into the Standalone Web
Client.
General
If you have any trouble running the Web Client, look at the Web Client logs.
1. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, drill down to the location of the Web Client
logs. By default, the logs are located in this directory:
<E1_install_dir>\system\OC4J\j2ee\home\log
2. Examine any logs that were recently created, especially logs that are prefixed with
either:
jas
jde
3. If you do not find any logs with the above prefixes, the logs may be in another
folder. Use this procedure to determine the location of those logs:
a. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, drill down to this directory:
<E1_install_dir>\system\OC4J\j2ee\home\applications\
webclient.ear\webclient\WEB-INF\classes
Search through the file and note the value of the FILE key. In each of the
sections that describes a log file there are section headers that are enclosed in
square brackets ([ and ]). If a section header or the FILE key is commented
out with a pound sign (#), you can ignore that section. For example:
#[E1LOG]
or
# File=log\jderoot.log
The value of the FILE key in each section is the name and path of a log file
associated with that section. For example:
File=log\jderoot.log
The actual file name will be the value of the FILE key with an underscore and
the current date appended. For example:
jderoot_090109.log
If a log file name and path starts with a drive letter followed by a colon and
slash, the path is absolute. This means that the log file will be located on the
specified drive in the specified directory. For example:
File=c:\standalone_logs\jas_090109.log
If a log file name and path starts with a slash, the path is also absolute. This
means that the log file will be located on the drive on which the E1
Standalone Client is installed and in the specified directory. For example:
File=\log\jderoot_090109.log
If a log file name and path start with neither a drive letter nor a backslash, the
path is relative to this folder:
<E1_install_dir>\system\OC4J\j2ee\home
For example, if the value for the FILE key is log\jas.log and the
Standalone Client is installed in c:\E900, the log file is written to:
c:\E900\system\OC4J\j2ee\home\log
Problem:
After starting the Standalone Web Client from the Standalone Client, you get an error on
the screen indicating that the Web Client could not connect to the security server.
Resolution:
Verify that the local database service(s) is running using this procedure:
Notes: Because you are replacing part of the Standalone Client installer, you will
need to either copy the installer from a DVD to a hard drive or download the
installer from E-Delivery. Follow the instructions in the section Copying
the Installation DVD or Downloading from the Oracle E-Delivery Website.
For the following instructions, it is assumed that the folder where the
Standalone Client installer resides is:
<drive>:\Standalone_9.00
activConsole.exe
jdenet_n.exe
If either or both of these processes are running, either wait for them to finish or
kill them via Task Manager.
3. Because the entire system is to be replaced, you should backup your existing
system directory in your installed Standalone Client. To do so, rename the
directory. For example:
4. Make a backup copy of the Web Development Client installer file which is
named:
<drive>:\Standalone_9.00\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\OH4A1013_setup.exe
5. Download the appropriate Tools Release WINCLIENT from the Update Center.
The download is transferred to your machine as a .par file. This file may be
opened with the standard WinZip program.
Warning: Improper Unzipping. You should not open the .par file by
double clicking on it. It is a self-extracting file that is normally
installed on a deployment server. If you double-click on it, it
will assume that your workstation is a deployment server and
attempt to install it in an incompatible manner.
7. Inside the .par file are multiple .CAB files in the Disk1\System folder. The
files are called SystemX.CAB where X is either nonexistent or a whole number.
Extract these .CAB files into a temporary folder. Be sure to specify Use folder
names in WinZip.
The system .CAB files are extracted to this structure under your temporary folder:
Disk 1\System
8. Open each of these .CAB files in turn in WinZip and expand them into the
Disk 1\System folder under your temporary folder.
When extracting the .CAB files, be sure to specify Use folder names.
9. Copy the new system directory and all its files and subdirectories to your
installed Standalone Client (for example: c:\E900).
10. Also inside the .par file will be the Web Development Client installer, which is
called:
Disk 1\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\OH4A1013_setup.exe
11. If the SSE version of the Standalone Client is installed, follow the instructions in
the section of this guide entitled: Chapter 4. Installing the JDBC Database Driver.
<drive>:\Standalone_9.00\ThirdParty\WebDevFeature\OH4A1013_setup.exe
13. Follow the instructions in the section of this guide entitled: Installing the Required
JDK. If the Minimum Technical Requirement for the JDK for the Standalone
Client has not changed from the original installation of the Standalone Client, you
may copy the JDK from the original installation into the new system. For
example:
c:\E900\system_old\jdk
14. Clear the cache in your browser using these browser-dependent procedures:
Mozilla Firefox
a. Go to Tools > Options.
b. On the Network tab and in the Cache section, click the Clear Now button.
15. Launch EnterpriseOne by following the instructions in the section of this guide
