General books for beginners

(all good, none perfect)

Modern Textbook of Astrology : Margaret Hone

Not so modern any more but still one of the best introductions to the basics of astrology

Astrology a Cosmic Science : Isabel M. Hickey

You’ll love her or you’ll hate her. Her intuitive approach is insightful but very individual.

The Astrologer's Handbook : Frances Sakoian and Louis S. Acker

Thorough and serious. Some find it somewhat judgemental and negative however.

Complete Guide to Astrology: Alan Oken

Practical and insightful but not always the deepest.

Books on special topics

Saturn - A New Look at an old Devil : Liz Greene

A groundbreaking book of psychological astrology

Chiron and the Healing Journey : Melanie Reinhart

The key book on this newly discovered planet.

Moon Time: Johanna Paungger & Thomas Poppe

Publisher: Rider 1995
A very thorough guide to how the moon cycle relates to health and nutrition

Lunation Cycle: Key to the Understanding of Personality: Dane Rudhyar

Publisher: Aurora Press 1986
An in depth exploration of the psychological meaning of the moon phases
