Job schedulers were utilized with the first mainframe

the payroll application typically required a series of
system batch processes to run in a specific sequence at a
given point in time (Friday of each week at 12:01 AM, for

Unique Event-based Architecture
Our competitive advantage in event automation is not
just the richest array of event triggers and sensors, but
the process by which event automation actually takes
place. CA dSeries does not rely on a schedule load,
which means it is not bound by any prediction of event
occurrence. Other products require the user to submit
jobs to look for events such as an adjustment to a text
file. CA dSeries immediately reacts to adjustments. These
events can trigger single dependent jobs, or entire job
streams or process flows, and they can take place as
often as the event does. CA dSeries will also enable

Projecting Successful Workflow Processes
CA dSeries’ advanced forecasting and simulation
capabilities head off problems before they occur,
minimizing the potential for human error while ensuring
what is scheduled is possible, and satisfies the need to
complete jobs on time. CA dSeries calculates anticipated
end times so administrators can review a job in an
application at any point, and determine when it will finish.
It can identify which job within an application represents
the critical point, and then dynamically identify the
critical path — the longest path to that job — based on
historical execution time or override time. If a job is
overdue, notification can be provided, or CA dSeries
can take action.
Logical Resource Allocation for Flexible Control of
Workload
CA dSeries can define jobs to multiple logical, renewable
or depletable resources. Should a system fail to have a
specific amount of resource units available as defined by
the user, CA dSeries will wait until the resource units are
available before submitting the job, providing users with
the ability to control the workload assigned to any machine
in the scheduling environment. CA dSeries can also prior-
itize system resources for critical jobs at the agent level.
Notification and Alerts Highlight Potential Problems
If CA dSeries determines there are failures, or projected
problems with the scheduled workload and process
events, it can notify the administrator in real time of
errors via e-mail, through the UI, to cell phones or to
PDAs to allow adjustments to be made, or jobs rerun.

CA dSeries provides a rich set of features to assist with
problem analysis and apply easy fixes to failed jobs. It
embeds this capability in the systems flowcharts in the
ESP Desktop Client, which makes it easy to spot problems
so the user does not have to crawl through the schedule

encryption to protect messaging traffic and its granular
