RULES OF ARTICLE

WRITING
An article is a piece of creative writing written specifically for
the purpose of publication in any form of media the writer desires
and sees best. There are different features and characteristics of
expose the concept and the sophistication of the article to its
readers’. This article is aimed at revealing the art of standard
article writing.
There are different kinds of articles, these types are grouped
based on the nature and the intensity of treatment the writer
gives to the Idea he ‘s conveying;

1. Descriptive:
This article describes moderately the idea the writer is trying to
express, e.g. is an article describing an election, accident, event
etc.

2. Expository:
This article is thorough in nature, as it involves the writer
exposing an entirely ‘new’ procedure to the readers. It involves
articles like the DIY articles, the Cookery articles etc.

3. Argumentative:
This article is in the form of an argument, having the writer either
proposing (supporting) or opposing a motion of phenomenon.
This article is in the form of a debate and has the characteristics
of a debate – this is why I call it a debate-in-writing article

4. Narrative:
This article is written to narrate a certain incident and has its
major characteristics as being factual.
Purpose of an article refers to the aim the writer had in writing
the article, it refers to the nature of the idea the writer conveys in
the written article. There are basically 5 purposes of Article
writing;

1. To Entertain

2. To Educate (Inform)

3. To Admonish (Instruct)

4. To Explain a process or procedure (e.g. DIY articles)

5. To Argue a point/ Prove a case.


Features of Article
Writing
1. An article is meant for the public, thus also called
public writing.

2. Since it’s a public writing, an article must have a


formal style of writing.

3. It must have a Heading or Title.

4. The introducing paragraph of the article must contain


the purpose and the setting for writing the article.
5. Each paragraph discusses a point or and idea.

6. The concluding paragraph must have a summary, or,


a re-state of the writers stand view.

7. Name and Address of the writer should be written


at the end of the article, as no editor would publish an
anonymous article.

a become a better and more professional article writer –
