Overall Aims of the Course

This course is design to give in-breath knowledge of Garment manufacturing
techniques/processes. This Includes the Study of Process Machinery, Operations, Design
technology (CAD/CAM), Apparel Design System (ADS), Stitches, Seams and threads, cutting,
sewing and pressing technology, finishing and packing sections.

and stepped lay.
-Explain spread/lay height limitations
-Explain various methods of spreading being used in the industry
like manual method, spreading carriage method, and automatic
spreading machine method.
-Explain spreading modes like face to face, face one way, etc
-Explain spreading quality, setup for spreading, spreading
equipments, spreading time and cost.
-Explain cutting accuracy, cutting quality and cutting equipments.
-Explain the various steps involved in preparation for sewing
including position marking, shading, bundling, numbering, etc.
At the end of this week, the students should be able to:
-Explain the stitch formation of lock stitch, chain stitch, overlock
stitch, and coverstitch.
-Explain the stitching classes like edge finishing and ornamental
stitching.
-Explain the special stitch types used in apparel and home textiles
with their application.
-Explain different types of seams (superimposed seams, lapped
seams, bound seams, flat seam).
At the end of the week, the students should be able to:
-Explain the types and applications of sewing thread like spun
threads, monofilament threads, multifilament threads, monochord
thread, texturized thread, and core-spun threads on apparel
articles.
-Explain the sewing thread selection criteria including features
like sewability, size, strength, twist, seam performance, color
availability and fastness, put-up type and size, service and quality,
thread cost.
- Understand the use of Alternatives to thread like Adhesive and
welding technologies.
At the end of the week, the students should be able to:
-Explain the machine casting i.e. the machine outer covering and
the types of sewing machines on the basis of machine bed.
-Explain the sewing machine lubrication system.
-Explain the stitch forming mechanism of the sewing machine
(the parts and devices like thread control devices, needles,
bobbins, cases & hooks, looper, spreader, throat plate, tongue and
chaining devices.
