Tawheed – (monotheism) – to single our Allaah in all forms of worship, and this is
the religion of all the Messengers sent by Allaah to His servants.
Origin of Shirk: The first of the Messengers was Nuuh (‘alayhi salaam). Allaah sent
him to his people when they exaggerated the status of the righteous people
(Wadd, Suwaa, Yagthuth, Ya’uq and Nasr). The last of the Messengers was
Muhammad (salla’Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and he smashed the statues of the
mushrikeen in Makkah.

[ Say: "Who provides for you from the sky and from the earth? Or who owns hearing
and sight? And who brings out the living from the dead and brings out the dead from
the living? And who disposes the affairs?" They will say: "Allâh." Say: "Will you not
then be afraid of Allâh's Punishment (for setting up rivals in worship with Allâh)?"]

Say "In Whose Hand is the sovereignty of everything? And He protects (all), while
against Whom there is no protector, if you know." They will say: "(All that belongs) to
Allâh." Say: "How then are you deceived and turn away from the truth?" ]
Surah Al-Mu’minoon 23:84-89
(other verses: Luqman 31:25, Zumar 39:38, Ankabut 29:61 and 29:63, Zukhruf 43:9
and 43:87).
The mushrikeen rejected the Tawheed of Ibaadah (which is the sole right of
Allaah to be worshipped). They made some of the righteous people as
intermediaries between themselves and Allaah claiming to “seek nearness
(taqarrub) to Allaah” and to “seek intercession to Allaah through them.”
