ISACA Evening Talks
We have been facilitating monthly evening talks and seminars to provide opportunities for members to meet their
Continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements and enhance their knowledge and professional network.
These monthly talks have been a regular and on-going activity, and it features speakers from diverse backgrounds
and industries to enrich the professional knowledge and development of our members through on-going education,
and creating networking opportunities with the speakers and fellow professionals.
Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of the Program Sub Committee, Board Members, and the participants, we
hosted ten events between May 2010 and April 2011, including one social event in December 2010. The social
event was exclusively for the chapter’s members at no costs, where Ms. Sharon Connolly (Image Consultant)
gave participants valuable tips on how to portray the right image and dressing for success. This is part of our
contribution to the member network to further propel you in your professional career.

ISACA Evening Talks
The year has indeed been very successful, as seen in the steady increase in the attendance and positive feedback
received from participants. The ISACA Board would like to express our deep sense of gratitude and appreciation to
all the guest speakers for accepting our invitation and delivering the talks, as well as the participants for making this
initiative a success.

For the forthcoming year, we are making arrangements with executives from sectors such as Financial, Banking,
Public Sector, and Manufacturing to offer participants their insights into security management from an industry
perspective. This allows our members to understand from them the practical challenges and how real-world
organizations are handling them.

They identified a lecturer at Temasek Polytechnic who was interested in serving as
an ISACA Academic Advocate and faculty advisor and students who were
interested in starting a group on campus. With the support of its Chapter President

• Silicon Valley (California, USA) Chapter San Jose State Student Group
• Greater Cincinnati (Ohio, USA) Chapter Miami University Student Group
Several other student groups outside of the US are also pending official organization and recognition.

If your school does not yet have an ISACA Student Group, please consider starting one. Help ISACA identify

ISACA TP Student Group Volunteering at TACS Conference 2010

Several ISACA TP Student Group Members had volunteered themselves at ISACA TACS Conference 2010:

“It was a great experience volunteering in this conference organized by ISACA Singapore Chapter. I’ve learnt
things such as how PCI Compliance is implemented to reduce frauds, what are portfolios, programmes and
projects, and how forensic can be linked to risk management. Other then the informational talks by the
professional speakers, we as volunteers in the organizing team learn more on how an event is planned, prepared
and carried out. This learning experience is what we do not have in school.”

TACS Conference 2010
The ISACA Singapore Chapter held the TACS Conference 2010 on 11-12 November 2010 at the Hotel Novotel
Singapore Clarke Quay. The conference theme, “Creating Value in a Regulated World”, reflected the challenges
that organizations face with increasing regulatory pressures and stakeholder calls for better transparency,
sustainability, and value creation through the use of IT.

On one hand, organizations have started to emerge from the financial crisis and are looking for means to steer the
company towards new opportunities. IT plays an important role in creating the necessary enablers as well as
generating the efficiencies to facilitate the growth strategies. However, organizations are at the same time being
challenged by increasing demands from regulators and stakeholders for better governance, compliance, and
sustainability.

This conference focussed on the balance between achieving growth and at the same time instilling a proactive risk
management approach to ensure that organizations stay on track to meet increasingly stringent stakeholder
expectations.

The TACS 2010 consisted of a two-day Pre-Conference Workshops on 9 - 10 November 2010 followed by the two-
day conference on 11-12 November 2010 featuring topics on Governance in Day 1 and Compliance and Security
tracks on Day 2. Distinguished speakers from both Singapore and overseas shared their practical insights during
this conference, which was well received by ISACA members and non-members alike. Please visit
www.isacatacs.com to read more about the event.

The Programs committee, led by Mr. Ravi Tirumalai and his sub-committee, has started the planning for the TACS
Conference 2011, which will feature presentations offering insights to how changes to the current threat
landscapes and technological advances impacts the way organizations need to manage security in their
organizations.

Highlights from the TACS Conference 2010

Page 7
Moving on - TACS Conference 2011

The ISACA Singapore Chapter organizes yearly Technology, Audit and Control System conference (TACS) that
address key issues in the domains of Governance, Risk and Compliance spheres.

With the theme “TACS: Then, Now, and in Future”, we are focusing this year’s conference on the 2020 vision to
equip our profession with the right knowledge and skill sets in handling the ever-changing threat landscape. The
theme of this year’s conference is to challenge the current security and risk management mindset, and what needs
to be done to address these new threats.

We are now issuing a call for speakers for the TACS Conference 2011 proposed to be scheduled on 6th and 7th
October along with two pre-conference workshops on 4th and 5th October 2011.

ISACA is looking for innovative speaking proposals that not only addresses the technical issues, but also provide
practical business or operational context. Speakers should offer real-world examples, case studies, successes and
failures. Sessions should be designed to encourage interactive audience participation by including small group
discussions, exercises and other activities to promote dialogue. We are looking for speakers and facilitators who
can bring to our participants innovative, energetic and exciting sessions.

You can be a part of this exciting regional event. ISACA is always looking for new and innovative presentations
and workshops relevant to the Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) domain. Each presentation should be of
45-60 minutes long to provide as much variety as possible while providing enough time to explore the complexities
of the topics. All speakers will have a presentation material deadline approximately 10 weeks prior to the event.

ISACA is a non-profit organization serving the IT audit and assurance, information security management, IT risk
management and IT governance community. Most presenters and their companies recognize the importance of
being part of this prestigious event. The TACS 2011 Conference provides the presenter with the opportunity to
demonstrate his/her expertise, knowledge and experience as well as to network with constituents for business
development purposes.

In appreciation for their contribution, ISACA offers a full complimentary conference registration (excluding any
separate training/ workshops) to all presenters. Presenters will also be invited to the “networking session” on 6
October 2011.

If you require more information on this event, please write to Mr. Ravi Tirumalai (Director of Programs
(Conferences)) at programs@isaca.org.sg. The Proposal Forms can be obtained from the Executive Manager at
admin@isaca.org.sg.

Industry outreach
ISACA SG seeks to bring better value to its members and increase the presence of ISACA SG to the IT industry,
regulatory, and peer associations.

In late 2010, ISACA SG successfully signed three Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with the Institute of
Internal Audit (IIA) Singapore, Singapore Project Management Institute (PMI), and IT Service Management Forum
(ITSMF) Singapore. Through these MOUs, our members can now access programs and trainings from these
three professional associations, and gain access to events organized by these associations at member rates.

In February 2011, ISACA SG also successfully partnered with SANS Institute and the Singapore Computer
Emergency Response Team (SingCERT) to organize a joint workshop for our members on End-User Security
titled 'Why Your End Users are Your Weakest Link?'. Bryce Galbraith, a veteran SANS trainer, delivered an
informative session to the participants on end-user security. At the same time, he demonstrated some insightful
hacking demos to a captive audience. The event was complimentary to ISACA members, and benefited 22
ISACA members along with 13 non-members.

In March 2011, ISACA SG also supported the first National Cybersecurity Awareness Day by Infocomm
Development Authority (IDA) to enhance the industry’s awareness of common end-user security through strong
passwords.

For more information, please contact Mr. Dave Kwek, Director of Industry Outreach at outreach@isaca.org.sg.
