1 INTRODUCTION
Title : Detail Survey
Location : Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia,
81310 UTM Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Duration : 25 February 2011 till 04 April 2011
2 PROCEDURES
2.1 TRAVERSE
1. Our group members arrive at UKK Laboratory at 7.30 a.m. in the morning to collect
all the equipment.
2. After all the equipment and tools has been checked, we moved to our site which is
located at D03 (FKA).
3. When we arrived, we start plan our work so it will be done smoothly.

All station has the value of coordinate in GDM 2000 and Cassini GDM 2000.
Our group have selected of GPS 2 and GPS 3 as reference for produce a datum in our
traverse.
The location of GPS 2 is at left side of Jalan Amal and near with block D05 and D04,
and the location of GPS 3 is at left side of Jalan Amal and nearly with of block D04
and D01.

1. First, take out the total station and put on the level tripod at station
2, so it prevent from fell down.
2. Centring the bubble directly into the middle by rotting the foot screw. To centring the
bubble tube it needs to rotate into specific positions during the centring process.
3. Check whether both bubbles are centre or not. We also need to check picket which is
the setup is on the permanent station.
4. First step, switch on the total station and choose total station function.
5. The total station is pointed to the Station 1. The horizontal angle, height of the
instrument, height of the prism with tripod and with pole is measured .
6. Then, the total station is pointed to the station 3.
7. After that, the total station is pointed to any permanent mark such as tree, corner of
the building, road or drain. The draft plan of the permanent mark such as station is
sketched.
8. Then all the reading which is horizontal angle, horizontal distance are recorded.
9. The process is continued until all permanent marks that around the point are recorded,
at least 10 spot heights.
10. Steps 2 until 8 are repeated for all station.
1. The location of the starting point of the fly-levelling, which is BM (G09, Geodetic
station) was identified.
2. The fore staffs was located on the assigned BM and the back staff was located in the
way so that the back sight and fore sight distances were approximately equal, with the
digital level was setup at the midpoint of back staff and fore staff. As the figure
below:
Page | 9
3. The distance of the back staff to the digital level and from the digital level to the fore
staff was measured by using step count.
5. After finish shot on the first sight, we go through to the second sight which is back
sight which is on the first station in levelling route.
6. Then target the digital level and then shot to the back staff on the station 1.
7. After finish for the first station, change the location of the digital level to the station 1
and bring forward the staff on the back sight to the next station which is station 2.
8. All the measurements that have been taken automatically save in the memory card
that is located in digital level itself.
9. Back sight and fore sight reading were also recorded manually into field book as a
checking.
10. The levelling work was carried out till station 3 which is at station 1 at our loop on the
traversing .So that reduced level that we get from BM carried out to the third station
and establish as the Temporary Bench Mark (TBM) for our next detailing project.
