THE NEED FOR THIS PROJECT
There has been a national call for improvement in teacher productivity as well as
student mastery of subjects. This is especially critical in the primary and secondary
levels of education. Over the years we have continued to experience great
reduction and removal of barriers between national borders. Our children no longer
have to compete with their peers from close localities and neighborhoods, but with
counterparts from other nations. There is a dire need to prepare our children
especially those in the primary and secondary schools to face the challenges of the
21st century.

On the other hand, teaching children has never been more challenging. This
generation of children has different needs, interest and values. That means our
methods and our commitment to understand this generation must be a priority.

Recent studies offer compelling evidence that confirms What parents have always
known; the quality of a teacher is one of the most critical components of how well
students achieve. The reality is that most of the teachers in Nigeria and (Niger
State) are under qualified and unprepared for the challenges of our 21st century
classrooms. Most of them have low grade education and employ the methods they
saw in their education.

We intend to create a complete platform for developing a cadre of teachers, who

after participation in our BOOT CAMP FOR TEACHERS, will have the necessary
expertise and passion to demonstrate new models for learning, assist in the
launching of another cohort of pioneers, and provide other consultative services.

We believe that a focus on teacher training has a more immediate impact on

quality education for children. This proposal is therefore geared toward teacher
training.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
The objective of this project is to dramatically improve the quality of education by
improving the effectiveness of teachers in our classrooms. The program, called
PREPARING TEACHERS FOR 21ST CENTURY CLASSROOMS, will allow
participants to become completely immersed and subjected to intense and
interactive sessions with a view to arming them with skills and attitudes for
delivering student-centered learning experiences in our classrooms.

This proposal aims to provide training to 5000 teachers [100 each from primary and
secondary schools drawn from the 25 local government areas] quarterly, running 25
centers and will touch over 10,000 children over a one-year period.
APPROACH AND PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES:
This section of the proposal is divided into three main parts: Training Audience
Selection system; Logistics and Supervision Scheme; and Lecture Implementation
and Evaluation Plan.

Training Audience Selection System:

One hundred [100] primary and secondary school teachers will be selected from
the 25 local government area of Niger State. Basic selection criteria will be
developed by the State and other Stakeholders.

Logistics and Supervision Scheme:

We shall be provided with 2 venues in each Local Government Area that can
comfortably sit 100 persons by the Niger State Government. Alternatively we could
bring our customized tents. Both parties will play supervisory role to ensure strict
adherence to the ideals of the project.

Lecture Implementation and Project Timeline.

The project will last for 12months after which we believe we would have been able
to ignite the effective teacher in every participant. The BOOT CAMP FOR
TEACHERS will run for 5 days and shall be held quarterly (i.e. is 4 Boot Camps)
throughout a year period. Lectures will be delivered using contemporary and
effective teaching methods. Each day our educators will provide thorough,
thoughtful, detailed exploration of strategies and activities relevant to fostering
effective literacy and thinking competencies.

PROJECT OUTCOMES:
A self-sustaining, highly interactive, learning community of educators and
researches will have been formed. This will serve to increase the effectiveness of
teachers in the classroom consequently building strong mental competencies for
our children making them producers of knowledge and people that can deliver
purpose and implement progressive ideas for the multi-faceted development of
Niger State.
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION PROTOCOL
Stage 1: Orientation for Education Stakeholders
We will travel to Niger State for five days. The objective is to understudy the state,
understand their cultures and brain storm with the Education Stakeholders. After
which dates for the entire program shall be finalized.

Stage 2: Need Assessment

Two of our trainers shall visit as many centers as possible from each of the 14
centers groups involved in this training activity.

Stage 3: Orientation
A teacher from each group will meet with us and the Education Stakeholders. The
purpose of this stage is two fold: 1) to introduce the teachers to new ideas and 2) to
come up with the exact training plans and evaluation metrics for each group and/or
center as applicable.

Stage4:BootCamp1
The training session shall be broken up into two sessions 4a and 4b. 50 teachers
out of the 100 teachers shall attend 4a and the other half shall attend 4b. The ES
will work with us to find ways to cause minimum interruption to the center. Each
session (4a and 4b) will be 4hours long. They will be held at the designated centers
by four trainers us. Both sessions will be held over a period of 5 consecutive days.

Stage 5: Evaluation 1
This stage will run throughout the training sessions. An evaluation team comprising
the ES and Our monitoring group will make two visits to the various centers. The
visits will be surprise visits. The exact metrics and evaluation criteria will be based
on what was decided in Stage 3 above. After this, the ES and Our team will meet
and determine how well the training is being implemented and what areas need the
most attention. Based on this, they will decide on what the focus of the next
training session will be.

Stage 6: BootCamp2
This stage will be organized exactly as Stage 4 (Boot Camp 1) was.

Stage 7: Evaluation 2
This stage will be organized exactly as Stage 5 (Evalutation 1) was.
PROJECT SUSTAINABILITY:
We believe learning is an ongoing process; therefore we have developed a continuity
scheme that will make it possible for teachers to still learn when they are not attending
the boot camps. We will create a website called www.bootcampNigerstate.com, which will
contain interactive materials to help teachers succeed in the teaching experience. The
website will be updated daily with new contents of instructional aides and strategies that
are effective and applicable in Niger State.

BUDGET
The cost is dependent on so many variables. So basically our approach is to run a
detailed assessment of each situation after meeting with the authorities concerned then
we can proffer our financial implications.

LAST STATEMENT
When these teachers are exposed to ground breaking concepts in teaching, new view
points, vigorous debates and intense analytical thinking, something in them begins to
change. Their minds opens, their thoughts expand. They begin to think at a different
level.

This is one of the environments that will produce the reeducation of Niger State.
