At the Kansas City Art Institute, there are many different types of signs for the site, for the building, and interior signage. Some buildings don’t even tell you what they are at all.

An example would be this building, Vanderslice. You only know that is the name of the building after you have been going to this school for a while.

There are some of these around campus telling you where you are located but the star to tell you where you are *CLICK* blends in with the rest of the map so that it is hard to tell where you are. Also these signs are made out of some plexiglass like material so they are hard to find
unless you are looking for them or know where they are. They are also not updated when the campus changes.

And in the different buildings there are room identifiers across campus. Another point is that very few signs around campus are ADA approved or would pass their inspection. What I have done is taken some elements of the already existing brand guide for KCAI and used those to create
a more consistent way finding experience.

This is a building directory for the outside of the building by the door. It has the name of the building along with the function and states the function in braille. All signs are made of vinyl or plastic that is adhered to the wall.

This is another directional sign that would be on different buildings around campus. I wanted to give more information than just the building name to be able to direct people more to what they are looking for. If someone new wanted to go check out the animation department, they
would not know what building to go to without already knowing that animation is in the irving building. This directional sign fixes that.
