SHOPPING:-
“The process of browsing and/or purchasing items in exchange for money.”
Shopping is the examining of goods or services from retailers with the intent to purchase at that time.

Shopping is an activity of selection and/or purchase. In some contexts it is considered a activity as well as

an economic one.

To many, shopping is considered a recreational and diversional activity in which one visits a variety of

stores with a premeditated intent to purchase a product.

There have been three major phases in the shopping / trading world in the last

100 years. In a way, these link up into a full circle:-

1. Customers would be served by the shopkeeper, who would retrieve all the good on their shopping list.

Shops would often deliver the goods to the customers' homes.

2. Customers have to select goods, retrieve them off the shelves using self service, and even pack their

own goods. Customers deliver their own goods.

3. Customers select goods via the internet. The goods are delivered to their homes as in phase one.

Fairs and markets have a long history that started when man felt the need to exchange goods. People

would shop for goods at a weekly market in nearby towns. Then shops began to be permanently

established. Shops were specialized , e.g. A Bakery, A Butchery, A Medicine. Then supermarkets

appeared.

4
IDEA OF E-SHOPPNG:-
The use of computers and internet have been expanding

significantly over the years. Presently internet has been used widely as a means of communication, as a

potential source of information, as a means of entertainment and many more. With in few years after

existence of internet, business men realized the possibilities of using internet as a medium of business.

This idea kick started the first online business ventures.

The act of purchasing products or services over the Internet,

basically called Electronic Shopping or Online Shopping. The Online shopping has grown in popularity

over the years, mainly because people find it convenient and easy to bargain shop from the comfort of

their home or office. One of the most enticing factor about online shopping, particularly during a holiday

season, is it alleviates the need to wait in long lines or search from store to store for a particular item.

The E-shopping is a term which general means Shopping on Internet

or Shopping through Electronic Devices.

Today online shopping have become part and parcel of the people all

over the world. Shopping online is always better and smarter way to spend your money. Online shopping

site gives a wide range of products and more stuffs to choose based on ones needs. Shopping online

always has the advantage of “PRICE”, many of the products will be discounted to a cheaper price.

Customers will also be given online coupons, gift certificates,

promotional codes based on special offers through which a considerable amount can be knocked off.

Electronic shopping (e-shopping) or Online shopping this involve the internet, and money transfer like using

pay pal for paying the item you bought.

5
The concept of E-Shopping is all about using the Internet to do business Better and faster. The E-Shopping

refers to Electronic Commerce , Internet Shopping , Online Stock , Selling and buying

“SOFT MERCHANDISE” ( Softwares , Books , Graphics , Music , videos , Apparels etc. ) .

E-Shopping is basically a link Between Companies/Organizations

and Consumers/Customers. It is the Paperless Exchange of business information using Electronic Data

Interchange ( E . D. I .) . The Internet or Electronic Shopping is depending on Electronic market basically,

which provides the wide range of Goods , Services , Ideas , Informations etc. .

On the Electronic Market we can compare the Price and Quantity with

Quality and select the best one according to person. The E –Shopping system is generally based on

Client /Server Architecture. The Client Processes Requesting service from server .In this technique

The Client is defined as the Requester of a Service & a Server is the provider of services/goods etc. .

Typically the E-Shopping Customer is the Client and Business is Server. In the Client/Server

Architecture single machine can be Client and Server .

E-Shopping is a process in which images or listings of goods and

services are viewed remotely via electronic means, e.g., a vendor's Web site, items are selected for purchase,

and the transaction is completed Electronically with a credit card or an established credit account.

Online shopping is becoming more and more common nowadays, due

to customers living style and their sharply decreasing amount of spare time. Shopping online offers numerous

benefits. People like online shopping at discount departments stores, because the costs are low, the range of

products is wide-ranging, and you can save more money by combining shipping prices. That's why it's good to

see that OO has freshly expanded their range, to contain hundreds of health and personal care things, just like

a discount online chemist store.

6. The E-Shopping is a technique which gives us:-

7
HISTORY:-
In 1990 Tim Berners-Lee created the first World Wide Web server and browser. It

opened for commercial use in 1991. In 1994 other advances took place, such as online banking and the

opening of an online pizza shop by Pizza Hut. During that same year, Netscape introduced SSL encryption

of data transferred online, which has become essential for secure online shopping. Also in 1994 the German

company Intershop introduced its first online shopping system. In 1995 Amazon launched its online

shopping site, and in 1996 eBay appeared.

In recent years, online shopping has become popular; however, it still caters to the

middle and upper class. In order to shop online, one must be able to have access to a computer, a bank

account and a debit card. Shopping has evolved with the growth of technology.

According to research found in the Journal of Electronic Commerce, if one focuses on

the demographic characteristics of the in-home shopper, in general, the higher the level of education,

8
income, and occupation of the head of the household, the more favourable the perception of non-store

shopping., Enrique.(2005) The Impact of Internet User Shopping Patterns and Demographics on Consumer

Mobile Buying Behaviour. Journal of Electronic Commerce Research, An influential factor in consumer

attitude towards non-store shopping is exposure to technology, since it has been demonstrated that increased

exposure to technology increases the probability of developing favourable attitudes towards new shopping

channels.

Online shoppers commonly use credit card to make payments, Some sites will not

accept international credit cards, some require both the purchaser's billing address and shipping address to

be in the same country in which site does its business, and still other sites allow customers from anywhere to

send gifts anywhere. The financial part of a transaction might be processed in real time (for example, letting

the consumer know their credit card was declined before they log off), or might be done later as part of the

fulfillment process.

THE ONLINE STORE:-

An online storefront is a web site that enables visitors to find,

order and pay for products and services. Running a successful store involves getting qualified buyers to

visit your store, helping them to understand their problem (and the pain or desire that it is causing them),

giving evidence you can solve their problem (credibility), and making it easy for them to acquire the

solution from you (steps they use to gain ownership of the item).

Online storefronts typically include storefronts, shopping carts,

payment processing, and order fulfillment systems. There are many store hosting options that can influence

the effectiveness of a user experience and web analytics can be used to determine which mix of web pages,

content choices, and product offers are most effective.

The basic process for running online stores includes promoting,

9
qualifying, interest building, convincing, and order processing. There are different types of online stores

which include online mall, e-commerce hosts, e-commerce software applications or custom software.

The online storefront provides various types of information to the visitor such as company description,

product types, product description pages, store policies, and contact information. A shopping cart allows

customers to select and temporarily store products that they want to purchase.

Payment processing is a system that allows the user to select

which payment method they want to use, gather payment information (e.g. credit card number), and

processes or records the payment information. Fulfillment is the process of picking or obtaining the items

the customer has ordered, shipping the item(s), and maintaining delivery tracking information.

AN ONLINE SHOP:-
As the name suggests, online shops are simply shops and stores

available online. While it may also have a physical location, an online storefront is set up on a website that

allows users to view and purchase products over the Internet. The most typical method of payment is

through a credit card or a service such as PayPal. Individuals and firms across virtually all industries have

found it beneficial to use online stores to conduct at least a portion of their business.

SETTING UP AN ONLINE STORE:-

The first step to creating an online store is

obviously to have a product. Once you've got that covered, you'll need to choose a domain name (a name

for your website) and a web host. After you've done this, you'll need to either design yourself, or hire a

10
designer, to create an eye-catching site where people want to shop.

*AN EXAMPLE OF ONLINE SHOPEE*

REQUIREMENTS OF E-SHOPPING:-

a. A COMPUTER WELL PERFORMING.

b. AN INTERNET CONNECTION OF GOOD EFFICIENCY.

c. SEARCH ENGINE (NOT MORE REQUIRED).

d. DEBIT/CREDIT/MASTER/VISA CARD (FOR TRADING).

11
e. PRINTER FOR INVOICES.

E- SHOPPING SYSTEM PROCESS:-

An online storefront usually contains a combination of

storefront, shopping cart, payment processing, and fulfillment functions. The storefront is the display that

the user sees which contains company description, store policies and product information. The shopping

cart is a process that allows the user to select and temporarily store items that they want to purchase.

Payment processing is the capability to gather payment information (e.g. credit card information) and

receive payment for the order. Fulfillment is the tracking of the delivery of items the customer has

purchased.

We can understand it by this figure:-

12
STEP- 1. (USER PLACING ORDER):-
The user preliminary select the best one which he want, or

which he/she have demand. The user find it or search it on websites or search engines (like Google).

After selecting the best one of them user gives the best order to the Merchant’s Web Server.

STEP- 2 . (MERCHANT’S WEB SERVER):-

After placing the order through user the order goes to

Merchant Web Server. The Merchant Web Server is a server which receives the orders from client or users

13
and gives him a response whose comes from server side. It is also send request to Payment Gateway.

STEP- 3 . (PAYMENT GATEWAY):-

Payment Gateway is a tool where the merchant send a

request for checking the amount in the account. The Payment Gateway play’s an important role in E-

shopping tool. The Payment Gateway send a request of conformation to the bank and receives a bank

response.

STEP- 4 . (BANK):-
The bank is a place which transect the amount between

the customer to marchanter’s account. Bank is basically a place which checks the Account Statements or

Account Balance. The Banks are supports to check the money and if that is ok then bank transfer the amount

to the merchant account. Bank is a link b/w customer and Mar chanter, and bank takes some charge for that

type of transaction.

THE PAYMENT MODE:-

In the E-Shopping the payment can be done through:-

a. Billing to mobile phones and landlines.

b. Cash on delivery (C.O.D., offered by very few online stores).

c. Checks.

d. Debit cards.

e. Direct debit in some countries.

f. Electronic money of various types.

g. Gift cards.

14
h. Postal money order.

Some sites will not accept international credit cards, some require both the purchaser's billing address and

shipping address to be in the same country in which site does its business, and still other sites allow

customers from anywhere to send gifts anywhere. The financial part of a transaction might be processed in

real time (for example, letting the consumer know their credit card was declined before they log off), or

might be done later as part of the fulfillment process.

Online shopping widened the target audience to men and women of

the middle class. At first, the main users of online shopping were young men with a high level of income

and a university education. This profile is changing. For example, in USA in the early years of Internet there

were very few women users, but by 2001 women were 52.8% of the online population.

PRODUCT DELIVERY:-
Once a payment has been accepted the goods or services can be
delivered in the following ways.

• Downloading: This is the method often used for digital media products such as software, music,

movies, or images.

• Drop shipping: The order is passed to the manufacturer or third-party distributor, who ships the item

directly to the consumer, bypassing the retailer's physical location to save time, money, and space.

• In-store pickup: The customer orders online, finds a local store using locator software and picks the

product up at the closest store. This is the method often used in the bricks and clicks business model.

15
Printing out, provision of a code for, or emailing of such items as admission tickets and scrip (e.g.,

gift certificates and coupons). The tickets, codes, or coupons may be redeemed at the appropriate

physical or online premises and their content reviewed to verify their eligility (e.g., assurances that

the right of admission or use is redeemed at the correct time and place, for the correct dollar amount

and for the current no of users.

• Shipping: The product is shipped to the customer's address or that of a customer-designated party.

• Will call, COBO (in Care Of Box Office), or "at the door" pickup: The patron picks up pre-

purchased tickets for an event, such as a play, sporting event, or concert, either just before the event

or in advance. With the onset of the Internet and e-commerce sites, which allow customers to buy

tickets online, the popularity of this service has increased.

LIST OF ONLINE STORES:-

This is a list of online stores, whether under the parent corporation's name or another name.

16
STATUS OF E-SHOPPING:-

17
18
19
USES OF E-SHOPPING:-
Online stores are usually available 24 hours a day, and many

consumers have Internet access both at work and at home. Other establishments such as internet cafes and

schools provide access as well. A visit to a conventional retail store requires travel and must take place

during business hours.

Online stores must describe products for sale with text, photos,

and multimedia files, whereas in a physical retail store, the actual product and the manufacturer's packaging

will be available for direct inspection (which might involve a test drive, fitting, or other experimentation).

Some online stores provide or link to supplemental product

information, such as instructions, safety procedures, demonstrations, or manufacturer specifications. Some

provide background information, advice, or how-to guides designed to help consumers decide which

product to buy.

Some stores even allow customers to comment or rate their items.

There are also dedicated review sites that host user reviews for different product. In a conventional retail

store, clerks are generally available to answer questions. Some online stores have real-time chat features, but

most rely on e-mail or phone calls to handle customer questions.

One advantage of shopping online is being able to quickly seek

out deals for items or services with many different vendors (though some local search engines do exist to

help consumers locate products for sale in nearby stores). Search engines, online price comparison services

and discovery shopping engines can be used to look up sellers of a particular product or service.

Shipping costs (if applicable) reduce the price advantage of

online merchandise, though depending on the jurisdiction, a lack of sales tax may compensate for this. Be a

smart shopper and use common sense when online shopping and just go ahead and enjoy your Internet

shopping experience today. The more people that shop online, the bigger their expectations.

20
Shipping a small number of items, especially from another country, is much more expensive than making

the larger shipments bricks-and-mortar retailers order. Some retailers (especially those selling small, high-

value items like electronics) offer free shipping on sufficiently large orders.

Another major advantage for retailers is the ability to rapidly switch suppliers and vendors without

disrupting users' shopping experience.

Online shopping for clothes and footwear is becoming more and

more common nowadays, due to customers living style and their sharply decreasing amount of spare time.

Shopping online offers numerous benefits. Shenzhen Wuzhou Changlian International Trading Co. is one of

the pioneers in vending its top class sports and casual footwear online.

People like online shopping at discount departments stores,

because the costs are low, the range of products is wide-ranging, and you can save more money by

combining shipping prices. That's why it's good to see that OO has freshly expanded their range, to contain

hundreds of health and personal care things, just like a discount online chemist store. The latest products are

listed in the Health & Beauty department at OO, under Cosmetics & Skin Care, First Aid, Health and

Medicines,Wellbeing, and Personal Care. I browsed around the new product collection and found famous

brands like Nurofen, Strepsils, Lemsip, Blackmores, Optifast, Nicorette, Gillette, Elastoplast, and many

more.
Online shopping involves purchasing products or services over the

Internet. Online shopping is done through an online shop, e-shop, e-store, virtual store, webshop, Internet

shop or online store. All the products in online stores are described through text, with photos and with

multimedia files. Many online stores will provide links for extra information about their products. They

often make available, safety procedures, instructions, manufacture specification and demonstrations. Some

will provide advice or how-to guides.

21
There are many advantages involved with online shopping, the most obvious of which is convenience. As

long as you have a computer, online shopping can be done from home or from work. There is no need to

take the time to travel to a conventional store. Also, online shops typically operate 24 hours a day so you

don't need to rush to get there during business hours. Particularly if you have a broadband Internet

connection, browsing online can be done very quickly - in fact, it can be quicker than browsing up and

down the aisles of a physical shop.

With online shopping, there is no need to wait in queues at the

check-out once you have your items. You are not required to lift any heavy or awkward-sized and shaped ‘

packages. Your shopping is collected with the click of a button and "deposited" into your shopping trolley

by no physical effort on your part.

Search engines and online price comparison services are useful for

finding sellers of a specific product. You can also, very quickly, find good deals on various items. Some

items will generally be cheaper if bought over the Internet due to the smaller size of the "brick-and-mortar"

store, reduced stocking costs for the seller and significantly lower staffing overhead. On large orders (as

determined by the retailer), shipping costs may be waved. There are also many websites that compile

information on coupons and discounts.

The main advantage of online shopping is that it allows people to

browse through many items and categories without leaving their house, to compare the prices of as many

shops as they want, and also to order as many items as they can afford without having to worry about how

they will transport them, because the online shopping websites also deliver the things to the buyer's home.

Furthermore, the Internet is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so you don't have to hurry or worry about

finding a parking spot.

If you plan on shopping from the Internet then first use a search

engine to find online shops. If you want fast deliveries and low shipping fees then try to search for the shops

that are in your country.

22
You can use a shopping directory that contains categorized links to stores from a specific region or from all

over the world, together with reviews from other customers. If you live in a big country you'll be surprised

to find out that there are thousands of online shops available where you live, and these shops sell everything

that can be sold, from baby products to dog houses and motor oil.

Most of the online shopping websites have the same pattern, first

you choose the category under which your item is listed, and then you can select the item that you're looking

for, and add it to your shopping cart. If you want to buy other items, you click the "add to cart" button near

them, and when you're finished you check out. After that you can see a list with everything that you've

ordered, and the total amount that has to be paid. You can also remove items from your shopping cart if you

desire to do so. Payment is usually done by credit card. The buyer enters the data on the credit card and the

shop charges the price and then delivers the items to the buyer's house in a few days. The transaction is

perfectly safe and the credit card data you send is encrypted so it can't be stolen.

Remember to always compare the prices, check for discounts, search

for the lowest shipping taxes and make sure that what you've found can't be found cheaper anywhere else.

The Internet is changing the wholesale/retail landscape daily. In

today's market the shopping sector is taking about a tenth of all retail shopping sales in the US, and the

percentage in other countries is not as high. One reason we use the internet is to buy merchandise at a

discount to retail.
Online shops are simply shops and stores available online. While it

may also have a physical location, an online storefront is set up on a website that allows users to view and

purchase products over the Internet. The most typical method of payment is through a credit card or a

service such as PayPal. Individuals and firms across virtually all industries have found it beneficial to use

online stores to conduct at least a portion of their business.

various stores trying to locate a specific item. And third, the variety of online merchants gives you the

ability to see products from around the world in every imaginable kind of category. The ability to view

merchandise from all over the world allows the home shopper to comparison shop in a manner they

multiple employees. Getting your merchandise is also a stress-free process when you shop online. There

are never any crowds to battle even during peak shopping seasons. You can purchase your products with

a simple click of a button and even select how you want them shipped to you. Imagine doing all of your

holiday shopping from the convenience of your favorite lounge chair in the comfort of your warm

pajamas and bathrobe through the modern technology of the Internet.

The E-Shopping is Flexible and Secured. In

addition, you need not go to the shop, wait for someone or something. We do not have to struggle with

people understanding you and etc. Products bought over the internet are often cheaper.

Online stores are usually available 24 hours a day,

and many consumers have Internet access both at work and at home. A visit to a conventional retail store

requires travel and must take place during business hours.

28
• Convenient:-
Convenience includes the overall ease of finding a product, time spent on shopping,

minimization of overall shoppoing effort (Schaupp & Belanger, 2005). Online shopping allows

consumers to shop at the convenience of their own home, and to save traveling time to retail stores and

spend their time on other important tasks and hobbies. Researchers idenfity convenience as a '

fundamental objective' related to online shopping (Schaupp & Belanger, 2005). This is relevant to 72%

of online shoppers' claim that they would rather surf online than go to retail store to attain information

about a product (Lokken et al., 2003). According to a study, 72% of online shoppers chose convenience

over privacy (Bhatnagar, Misra, & Rao, 2000). In addition to ease of finding products online and

shopping time reduction, consumers can shop without time limitation with 24-hr access at their

convenience because the World Wide Web never closees. Lokken mentions 24-hr access as a beneficial

characteristic of online shopping (Lokken et al., 2003). Also, consumers can exchange information

online through chatting and discussion forums to help them make wise consumer decisions.

• No need for vendors and no pressure to buy:-

Online shopping benefits both the

society as a whole and individuals. The society can save human resources when consumers help

themselves by browsing freely online instead of asking for assistance from vendors. In addition,

consumers are freed from the pressure to buy from the vendors and can spend more time to make wise

purchase decisions. But it is imorpant that Web sites have good product descriptions because it is one of

the significant condition that satisfy consumers (Limayem, M., Khalifa, M., & Frini, A., 2000).

• Able to compare product price and features:-

With the online tools that enable

product comparison, consumers can compare product prices and features to make a better decision with

less effort. More details are included in solutions section.

OTHER ADVANTAGES:-

31
There are many advantages and disadvantages to shopping

online. I have been shopping online for over 20 years, and feel that I am fairly well qualified to compare and

contrast online shopping. The purpose of bestbookbuys.com is to compare prices before you buy, save

time, save money, and make online shopping experience easy and pleasant.

This website has different kinds of information such as:

books, music, videos, electronics, photo labs, bike stores and hot deals. Best book buys searches a wide

variety of online book retailers to find all types of books at the lowest prices.

Let's say that you want to buy a $38.66 hardback book online.

You will have to pay at least $7.48 to ship it (and that is from a company that charges reasonable shipping

fees). So, your $38.66 book will end up costing you $46.12 before taxes.

One time I almost bought a sewing machine online. The sewing machine was on sale for $499.

Developed countries in the network technology,

electronics store is full of vitality, showing strong momentum of Development will become a strong

challenger to traditional outlets. According to GFK to a recent German survey through e-shopping, the

German semi-annual sales to reach 53 billion euros. According to China "issued by China Internet
Network

hotspots Survey Report" shows: while browsing the Internet users in the electronics stores, 17.9% of

Internet users have adopted e-store shopping experience, of which over 90% of Internet users said they

would continue to e-shopping, these data show that in our country through e-shops there are also some

potential.
The E-Shopping provides the wide range of goods and services,

so customer can compare the Price & Quality and Purchase the great one. There are a lot of web sites which

provides the E-Shopping facility , Some websites are:-

1. NAAPTOL.COM 3. EBAY.COM

2. HOMESHOP18.COM 4. FUTUREBAZAR.COM

32
1. No More Driving:-

With gas prices in some areas of California inching toward five dollars a gallon, it's no wonder that

people are thinking twice about getting into their SUVs and heading to the stores. An online shopping

mall allows you to get all of the gifts you need with a few clicks of your mouse - without ever starting up

the engine.

2. Ultimate Convenience:-

With an online shopping mall, you never have to worry about the crowds on a Saturday morning, gunning

for a parking spot, or where you're going to leave the kids so you can buy their holiday gifts. By

definition, an online store is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can shop after the kids have

gone to bed, you can shop in your pajamas and bunny slippers, or you can shop at peak times with the

knowledge that you're not standing in line at a checkout counter. It can't get more convenient than that!

3. Freedom to Browse:-

Perhaps you know precisely what you need, or maybe you're looking for inspiration. Either way, an online

shopping mall fits the bill. If you know that Aunt Mary loves certain fragrances, for example, you can

easily hone in on the perfect gift. On the other hand, if you're unsure what toys would appeal to your

nephew, an online shopping mall lets you browse to your heart's content until you find the toy that will

delight him.

4. Endless Selection:-

A great online shopping mall mirrors the best brick-and-mortar mall in that it has a virtually limitless

selection - without having to traipse from store to store with armloads of packages. Apparel, auto parts,

cell phones, computers, personal electronics, home and garden gifts, jewelry, sports, and toys are all

available at a good online mall. Tens of thousands of items are all at your fingertips.

5. Great Prices:-

An online shopping mall has many advantages over a traditional mall, but perhaps none is more

compelling than the pricing.

33
After all, online stores don't have the overhead expenses of brick-and-mortar stores - like rent, utilities,

display, sales clerks, and so forth - so they can pass along the savings to you. For that reason, they can

offer products at or sometimes below wholesale prices.

Another very vital benefit of shopping through the internet is

the comfort with which you can evaluate the charges of various products or services. There are many

shopping websites that will permit you to evaluate diverse brands in conditions of their price, specifications

and accessible deals. You can also have right to entry to promotional proffers, special discount deals and

many other attractive advantages on the web. You hoard on tax and obtain free shipping of products.

Another great benefit of online shopping is the availability of all the brands of products exact at your

approach.

Online shopping carts have become so prevalent nowadays that their importance in e-commerce is easy to

forget. However, these modern additions to transactions on the internet happen to be a key factor in

nurturing and developing online commerce by:

- Facilitating fund transfers from buyers to merchants through the World Wide Web

- Helping business owners with e-commerce accounting tasks

- Increasing sales by offering opportunities to up sell, down sell and cross sell

- Making online shopping a more comfortable and easier experience for consumers

- Protecting business owners' intellectual properties by ensuring that only paying customers get

downloadable products.

It should be evident by now that your choices of online shopping cart software will have a huge impact on

our overall business.

Beneficial for us , are following:-

Ten Tips for Shopping Online:-
1. Plan Ahead. Having a set list of gifts you intend to buy helps minimize confusion, especially if you

intend to make multiple purchases through several websites. Shop.org encourages consumers to start

their online holiday shopping at www.cybermonday.com, a site which will offer current promotions of

more than 400 online retailers throughout the holiday season.

2. Shop safely online by using common sense. A golden rule of online shopping is that if something seems

like it’s too good to be true, it probably is and you should avoid it. Shop with retailers that you trust. If you

aren’t familiar with an online retailer, look for privacy and security seals, which indicate that their security

and privacy measures have been verified.

3. Make sure your gifts arrive in time. Check retailers’ shipping deadlines, which are featured prominently

on most retail websites. The information ensures that customers understand the last day when they can place

orders for arrival by Christmas or Hanukkah. After standard shipping deadlines pass, many retailers will

offer shipping upgrade promotions with later deadlines.

4. Know the retailers’ return and exchange policies. Return policies vary, so knowing ahead of time whether

or not you will have to ship back returns or exchanges or if you can return them to the physical store in your

area will help in the long run. Also be sure to find out who covers the cost of shipping if you need to return.

5. Ship gifts directly to the recipient. Most online retailers can ship items to a different location than your

billing address. During the holiday season, when many people are traveling, take advantage of this feature

by sending gifts ahead of your arrival. Some companies can even ship to multiple locations so you don’t have

to lug holiday gifts all across the country.

36
6. For instant gratification , buy online then pick up in the store. Many retailers offer a “buy online, pick up

in store” option. Check with your favorite retailers to see if this is a service they offer, then skip the crowds

and head straight to the customer service counter where your items will be waiting.

7. Read the fine print. Retailers list important information such as privacy policies, warranty information,

item descriptions, terms of agreement and company information on their websites. Much of this information

is very useful, but is displayed in a smaller font.

8. If you aren’t comfortable paying with a credit card, research other payment options. Retailers place a

tremendous importance on keeping their websites safe and protecting customers’ information. But for

shoppers who are still nervous about paying by credit card, other options are often available. Online retailers

offer a variety of services, from letting customers fax in an online order to accepting third-party payment

options. Some retailers also allow gift cards to be redeemed online.

9. “Check it Twice” before confirming purchase. Before you complete an online purchase, double check

billing and credit card information, shipping address and total cost of the order. This will eliminate any

potential panic after you’ve hit the final “confirm” or “submit” button. And remember not to click “submit”

twice.

10. Start a file folder. First, print and save all confirmations of your purchases. This will help in many ways,

from returning or exchanging items to verifying credit card or bank statements. Also, write down each

purchase. It’s easy to forget how much you’ve spent if you don’t keep track of it. This will help both budget

holiday spending and balance your checkbook.

37
DISADVANTAGES OF E-SHOPPING:-
1. Your safety could be at risk.

2. Viruses may get into your computer from the different sites.

3. Postage costs money.

4. Items could never be delivered.

5. Hard to track people who have not delivered your products.

6. If goods are faulty, no way to return them.

7. Description/image of item may not be accurate.

8. Refunds aren't applicable.

9. You can only see one product at a time.

10. You cannot try anything on.

11. You can't buy with cash.

12. Hard to shop if you have very slow internet.

13. Warranties can mean nothing.

14. Unable to meet people / social network online.

15. Need a computer and the internet.

16. If we don’t have pay pal, or credit card, it is often harder to buy online.

17. If we are buying shoes or clothing online, it is hard to buy without size.

18.We can’t purchase some physical items Online like “Sofa Set”.

19. The online shopping have a lot of risk.

20. Suppliers cannot be judged in the same way they can in a real store.

21. It won’t come until a few days later.

22. Pay for the “ SHIPPING ” .

38
One of the important disadvantages of online shopping is lack of personal interaction. Another

disadvantage of online shopping is tangibility factor. Seeing the picture of a product is far inferior to that

of seeing it in real world. When you go for real world shopping, you can actually touch, feel or sense it with

different means, but for online shopping you can only view the electronic catalogues. Eventhough this

problems has been rectified to certain extent by use of 3D product catalogues, some online malls still uses

the old fashioned images in product catalogues.

Another factor is shipping cost. If the shipping cost is more

than that you need to actually carry the product home, then online shopping become un attractive.

Yet another concern is about online security. If you are

shopping online, you have to take additional care about your credit cards so that to protect from

unauthorized usage. Online shopping lacks the real world shopping experience that we get shopping

with relatives and friends offline. Eventhough online shopping has several disadvantages, the advantages

out number the disadvantages and thus more and more people started buying online.

Lack of touch and feel of merchandise, lack of personal

attention from a salesman (*MWS Online Shopping Mart offers ClickCall service to talk to a sales

representative which may be a necessity for online shopping), not able to try the merchandise on (especially

clothing), lack of close quality examination (physically visiting different stores and examine the same

product is assuring but costly in time), more chances to encounter fraud (disappearance of shopping site),

more chances for mistakes in ordering the wrong item, slightly higher exposure of credit card security

(*This is a controversial point since using CVV2 code with credit card, can be more secure or less chance of

fraud.) Verification of credit card owner less rigorous (physically one can ask for other identifications).

39
We do not see in person the item that is being sold

This can include that ability to try on clothing of being able to see the true size of the product. Many times

items that are sitting in a warehouse get bumped around and begin to show signs of wear and tear. When

buying online there is no guarantee that the item you get will not be one of those that are dented or

otherwise worn in some way. Along, the same lines, you do not deal directly with the salespeople as well. If

you have a major problem that you need to take care of immediately you cannot deal with it in person. If

you are simply a people person, shopping online will not be for you because you will not be participating

with anyone but yourself.

During times of heavy Internet use or on extremely smaller online websites, you may retrieve a site that is

loading slowly which can take a lot of time spent waiting and even cause you to get bumped off of the

internet. This can happen at any point in the shopping experience and cause you to waste a lot of time trying

to get back on the site and also trying to figure out what of your information was saved, if any. E-shopping

is not for the shopper with a short temper.

When we shop online

We do not get the instant gratification

that comes with purchasing an item at the store and

bringing it home with you. You do not get to use it or wear it right away but have to wait – many times

several weeks. This wait can be accompanied by shipping costs, which equates to basically paying to wait

for your purchase.

40
Seasonal shopping online can be difficult

Because in order to avoid the problem of items being

back ordered or out of stock you need to begin shopping several months ahead of time. People are not

always ready to start shopping this early and do not always know what they need to buy. This is certainly

something to consider when planning your holiday shopping.

For some people security is an issue.

To make certain that the site you are ordering from is

secure; follow the recommended checks and balances to determine the authenticity and security. This

includes checking the certificate of authenticity, making sure there is a physical address and working

telephone number listed and as you navigate through the secure section of the website watch the pictures of

locks up in the corner of the dialogue boxes. Closed locks mean secure information while open locks mean

that the area you are in is not as secure as it could be. Another clue as to whether or not the website you are

on is legitimate is how professional the site looks. If you are on a site that looks unprofessional and does not

give any information about the product(s) this could be a red flag. Websites that give a lot of consumer

testimonials but no other explanations can possibly be over compensating for having less than adequate

product and need to be checked further before purchasing from them.

There are both advantages and disadvantages to Internet shopping. The decision to shop online is a very

individual decision and may change for you depending upon what you are looking to buy and what time of

the year it is. A solution to the fear of security when e-shopping is to purchase from major known chains of

stores and online stores that have been around for a long time and have a long history of contented

customers.

CONCLUSION:-
Our recent survey says: Online stores ought to do a better job of helping

customers. Confusing names, hard-to-find-links, out-of-the-way information, and text, text, text make much

customer assistance difficult and, well, not very helpful. What a store has to face when it takes makes its

storefront available to the whole world. Some ideas from an international trade expert. Phil Greenspun, a

wonderful photographer and casual Computer Science prof at MIT, shows how to cook up a site that allows

online community, virtual publishing, and, perhaps, some sales.

Even though Fire and Ice's shopping cart was down, Marissa helped me find the

perfect three stone ring for my ten year anniversary. They ended up custom making one for me after going

through several drafts and she even gave me 10% off for an offer starting next month. And their diamond

consultants were so knowledgeable. I’m glad a business is finally stepping up to the plate and giving back to

their customers. I truly can’t say enough about them!

I can't find the words to THANK YOU enough for this. I received my Large

Trevor Atkins didge today and I can't explain how happy I am. I was tracking the package every single day

while it came closer and closer and finally I got it. I'm so thankful the way you took such good care of it, the

bubblewrap, my snakeskin's bag, the box, the dvd, mouth pieces, and the magnet! its awesome! The letter is

beautiful, thank you so so much. Everything was perfectly good.. thank you thank you thank you!.

I just wanted to send a quick email to thank you for the didgeridoo I recently

brought my son for his 9th birthday. Delivery was super quick. He was so excited to receive it as that was all

he wanted and has been asking for almost 12 months for one. He unwrapped the parcel and was playing

within minutes.
I just wanted to write in that I purchased a didge stand from you guys a few weeks

ago and bloody love it since it arrived in Sydney for me! I have been playing guitar for a while too and really

wanted to experiment with both at once...
