It’s Tiered Storage IBM Storwize

V7000 supports a range of 2.5” 6gbps SAS
and SSD drives as well as 3.5” SATA drives.
Each head unit or disk drawer holds either
24 x 2.5” drives or 12 x 3.5” drives, with up
to 10 enclosures which is a maximum of
240 drives.

It’s Easy Tier Easy Tier is included in

the core function of every Storwize V7000. Easy Tier is about extracting value from SSD (NAND) technology.
SSDs cannot compete with the price per GB of enterprise hard drives, so the challenge is to extract maximum
performance value from SSDs whilst taking advantage of the lower cost per TB of large SAS and SATA drives.

IBM’s Easy Tier will tune your system, expertly and

automatically migrating 256 MiB chunks of data to
and from SSD as required, giving preference to
small random reads (the workload most suited to
SSDs). No manual tuning is required. Even if you
don't have any SSDs, you can still turn Easy Tier on and it will give you some conservative estimates on what
improvements it could make to your performance if you did add SSDs.

IBM Storwize V7000 delivers automatic tiering that’s

easy and cost-effective for the midrange, clearly
distinguishing itself from competing systems that are
often complex and expensive. Storwize V7000's Easy
Tier function is smart, easy and free (of course you
probably want to buy at least three SSDs).

It’s Thin Storwize V7000 also includes thin

provisioning which can provide dramatic space
savings. Competing systems often apply
performance caveats to thin provisioning, but not so
the Storwize V7000, which delivers excellent
performance for even your tier 1 applications with
thin provisioning turned on.

It’s Migratory Storwize V7000

allows you to non-disruptively move
entire volumes between tiers and also
provides wizards to also easily perform
on-line data migration from legacy disk
systems, all but eliminating the cost
and disruption of data migration.

It’s Virtualizing Storwize V7000

also supports long-term external
virtualization of a huge range of multi-
vendor disk systems. Multi-vendor disk systems can be managed and volumes provisioned as if the collected
systems were a single resource. Long-term virtualization of
external systems is licensed separately per external
enclosure.

It’s Snappy Storwize V7000 also includes IBM FlashCopy

point in time copying. FlashCopy includes writeable
snapshots, as well as full volume cloning, and Reverse
FlashCopy which allows instant restore of a volume. All of
these functions are included in the base Storwize V7000 External
product and do not need to be licensed separately. You can Virtualization
also add Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager (licensed per TiB)
to deliver application integrated hot snapshots (Oracle, MS
SQL, MS Exchange, DB2, SAP).

It’s High Performance Storwize V7000 can deliver

more than 80,000 disk read IOPS from internal 10KRPM SAS
drives, or more than 330,000 disk read IOPs using externally
virtualized disk. The Storwize V7000 is also able to deliver more than 900,000 IOPS from cache. For fully
detailed performance reporting and datamart-based capacity planning, Tivoli Storage Productivity Center for
Disk (Midrange Edition) can be licensed per physical enclosure.

It’s Complete Storwize V7000 optionally includes Global Mirror and Metro Mirror remote replication
software in support of your disaster recovery strategy. Remote replication is licensed per physical enclosure.
