Update Bundle 8 description

Update Bundle 8 description

This release is commonly called EMC® IonixTM ControlCenter® 6.1.0 Update
Bundle 8 (UB8). The version is 6.1.0.8.470. It is a cumulative rollup of
ControlCenter 6.1 patches and update bundles including relevant SQL patches
released by EMC prior to this release.
It is required that you download and read the latest version of the Support Matrix,
ControlCenter 6.1 prerequisites, and all other related ControlCenter documents
from the EMC Powerlink® website before you begin installation.

Update Bundle 8 (UB8) new features

Note: You must upgrade agents to the UB8 level to make full use of the patches and
additional features provided in this bundle.

◆ Support for email notifications to the ControlCenter and StorageScope

repository backup and export utilities
◆ The EMC Invista agent also supports VPLEX from UB8 onwards
◆ StorageScope features:
• Support for Shared Storage:
– Identifies the shared storage and the hosts sharing the storage
– Reports shared storage from both host and array side
– Reports total chargeable capacities with double counting eliminated
• Support for two new thin devices, Thin BCV and RDF devices
• Support for Centera Reporting. StorageScope displays the available
capacity as free capacity
• Support for StorageScope Model Services Adapter (MSA). This is used to
expose EMC ControlCenter 6.x data to the Data Center Insight (DCI)
application to provide a storage-focused view of the data center.
StorageScope MSA responds to HTTP requests for data and returns
resource-specific, modeled data as an ATOM feed
◆ Support for discovery and management of Brocade switches with the new OUI
'00:05:33'.

Special instructions

! IMPORTANT
Please read the following special instructions before proceeding with the UB8
installation.

! IMPORTANT
After upgrading the infrastructure and the Master Agent on the infrastructure
servers to ControlCenter 6.1 and before upgrading the agents, you must install
the latest ControlCenter Update Bundle from Powerlink. After completing the
upgrade or fresh installation of ControlCenter, the latest Update Bundle and
OCPU patch must be installed.
Ensure that you are at 6.1 UB2 (CC_4459) or later before installing UB8, unless
you have installed from CD A02 or A04, the equivalent to UB4.

Agent backwards compatibility

Backwards compatibility means the agent will continue to function as designed
with the previous versions of ControlCenter Update Bundles.
The ControlCenter Update Bundles provide agent backwards compatibility for
Master and Host agents, Common Mapping Agent, and Database Agent for Oracle
from 5.2 SP5 and onward.

! CAUTION
Do not update your Common Mapping Agent to Update Bundle 5, 7, or 8 if you
are dependent on database support provided only with Solutions Enabler 6.5.x.

Note: Any host that uses the EMC Invista® Storage must have the Host Agent running at
UB3 or later version.

ControlCenter Environment Checker

ControlCenter Environment Checker is a diagnostic tool for determining whether
the existing ControlCenter is ready to be upgraded to the next higher version. The
purpose of this tool is to list out any potential issues that could occur while
upgrading ControlCenter.
You can download this tool from EMC Powerlink website at
http://Powerlink.EMC.com.

Note: It is recommended to run this tool before upgrading to ControlCenter 6.1 UB8.

 Installation

Preinstallation requirements
Before proceeding with the steps outlined in this document, the following
prerequisites must be met.

! IMPORTANT
Ensure that you are at 6.1 UB2(CC_4459) or later before installing UB8, unless
you have installed from CD A02 or A04, the equivalent to UB4.

Backup StorageScope
This prerequisite is only needed if UB8 is being applied to an existing
ControlCenter environment.

Note: If file level reporting (FLR) is licensed, then disable all FLR data collection policies
(DCPs) prior to the next scheduled Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) run time. If this is
not done, then the ETL process should be run before UB8 is installed.

Perform these steps prior to installing UB8:

1. Run the
%ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\repository\admin\emcsts_scripts\emcsts_trendi
ng_services.bat.
2. Run a StorageScope Repository Export and Backup.

Note: In an FLR licensed environment, the ETL run time could take up to 4 hours to
complete.

Backup ControlCenter
It is mandatory to perform a complete backup of ControlCenter prior to starting
the UB8 installation except for fresh installation.
1. Download and install patch 4563 (CC_4563.zip) on all infrastructure servers.
Readme for HF 4563 provides more information.
2. Set the ControlCenter and Oracle services to Manual.
3. Run backup.bat in the %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\HF4563 directory on all
infrastructure servers except for servers which have the Performance Manager
GUI Client installed alone with no other ControlCenter components.
4. Reboot the server.
5. Copy the %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\ directory to another storage location.
6. Change the ControlCenter and Oracle services back to Automatic and proceed
with applying the patch.

Note: If ControlCenter is installed in a Microsoft Cluster, leave all the ControlCenter and
Oracle services set to Manual.

Install latest quarterly Oracle security patch (recommended)

It is highly recommended that you install the latest quarterly Oracle Critical
Security Patch Updates. If you experience the error stated in step 4 in the following
section, the latest quarterly Oracle security patch must be applied to the
ControlCenter and StorageScope Repositories.
To verify whether this is necessary:
1. Navigate to the latest backup of the ControlCenter Repository.
2. Extract rambdb_exp.log from
%RAMBBACKUPDIR%\exp\rambdb_exp_dmp.zip
3. Edit rambdb_exp.log by using Notepad or Wordpad and go to the end of the
file.
4. If you see the following lines at the end of the file, the Oracle Security patch is
required before proceeding with applying UB8:
ORA-31672: Worker process DW01 died unexpectedly.
Job "SYSTEM"."SYS_EXPORT_FULL_02" stopped due to fatal error at
[Timestamp]ORA-39014: One or more workers have prematurely exited.

Stop infrastructure services

Before implementing this update bundle, you must stop the following
ControlCenter services on all the following ControlCenter infrastructure systems:
◆ EMC ControlCenter Key Management Server
◆ EMC ControlCenter Repository
◆ EMC ControlCenter Server
◆ EMC ControlCenter Store
◆ EMC ControlCenter API Server
◆ EMC ControlCenter Web Server
◆ EMC StorageScope Server
◆ EMC ControlCenter Master Agent
Wait until the Server and Store services are completely stopped. This can take 3–5
minutes. Verify that they have stopped in the Windows Task Manager (in the
Processes tab, and then look for ECCService_Store.exe and ECCService_Server.exe.

Note: Depending on your infrastructure's configuration, these services might not all be
running on the same system.

! IMPORTANT
A connection to the ControlCenter Repository is required to install the patch, so
do not stop the following services: OracleECCREP_HOMETNSListener,
OracleServiceRAMBDB (ControlCenter Repository), and
OracleServiceEMCSTSDB (StorageScope Repository).

Stop non-ControlCenter services

Stop the following non-ControlCenter services:
◆ All antivirus services should be disabled so that on-access virus scans and
background virus scanning operations are not running in the background on
any StorageScope systems.
◆ All COM+ services should be stopped and disabled except on a Microsoft
Cluster.
◆ All server management services (HP and DELL) should be stopped and
disabled.
◆ VMware Tools
◆ Distributed Transaction Coordinator
◆ Windows Management Instrumentation

Applying UB8 to different versions of ControlCenter

The following scenarios describe how to prepare different versions or
configurations of ControlCenter for the UB8 update.

Completely fresh install of ControlCenter 6.1 (Rev A04)

The EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Planning and Install Guide, Volume 1 to perform the
initial install.

Upgrade to ControlCenter 6.1 from a pre-6.1 version

Note: These steps apply to ControlCenter components installed according to

ControlCenter’s design across one or more infrastructure servers.

Upgrading to ControlCenter 6.1 should be done with the ControlCenter 6.1 Rev
A02 or A04 media only. Do not use the ControlCenter 6.1 Rev A01 media.
To complete the upgrade:
1. Reboot the ControlCenter Server and Repository first, then reboot the
infrastructure server(s).
2. Install the Console on the Remote Access Server and not the infrastructure
host. Uninstall the console and delete the user directories.
3. Upgrade the agents on the WLA Archiver host.
4. Upgrade the StorageScope service.
5. Connect to StorageScope and run ETL successfully.
6. Upgrade Master agent. If PM is already installed on a host with master agent
deployed, PM will be upgraded automatically. Upgrade and run Performance
Manager GUI Client.
7. Connect to the Web Console if this is part of your design.

Verify version of ControlCenter

To verify the version of ControlCenter:

1. Open a DOS window on ControlCenter Repository host.

2. Open the following directory:
cd /d %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\Repository\admin\Ramb_Scripts.
3. Run ecc_getversion.bat.
You will see the version information as follows:

4. Exit the DOS window.

Existing EMC ControlCenter 6.1

ControlCenter environments that are already at a UB2 or above can be upgraded to
6.1.0.8.470 (UB8) immediately following the instructions below.

Note: Anytime a Master Agent is installed on a new host it must be patched immediately to
6.1.0.8.470 or later. This does not apply to ControlCenter 6.1 A02 or A04 or later.

Note: The EMC Ionix ControlCenter Planning and Install Guide, Volume 1 provides details to
discover pre-61 agents into a fresh install of ControlCenter 6.1.

In a Microsoft Cluster
When applying any ControlCenter upgrade, Update Bundle or OCPU Patch, the
ControlCenter and Oracle resources found in the Cluster Administrator must be
removed from the cluster as follows:
1. Open the Cluster Administrator.
2. Select the Oracle Repository Resources and take it off-line.

Note: All of the Oracle and ControlCenter resources should be stopped with this action.

3. Select the Oracle Resource and delete.

Note: All of the Oracle and ControlCenter resources should be selected for deletion.

4. Open the Services applet.

5. Start the Oracle Services.
6. After the upgrade or update bundle is completed successfully, add the Oracle
and ControlCenter resources back to the cluster.

Note: The ControlCenter Infrastructure and the Repository must be completely upgraded
and rebooted before continuing to the other infrastructure components.

The bundle should be installed on the infrastructure hosts in the following order:

Every ControlCenter infrastructure system needs to be updated with this patch. In
a distributed ControlCenter infrastructure environment, components may reside
on multiple systems.

Note: If the StorageScope Server and the StorageScope Repository reside on different hosts,
you may need to reapply this patch to the StorageScope Server host after you update the
StorageScope Repository.

This patch can be applied to any previously installed version 6.1.0.x.x of

ControlCenter 6.1 as follows:
1. Verify that all of the above preinstallation requirements have been met.
2. Unzip CC_4826.zip to a shared directory where each of the infrastructure
servers can connect.
3. Execute Patch6108470_4826.exe on the infrastructure you are currently
updating.

Note: The InstallShield may display a dialog box indicating that the StorageScope Server
will not be updated at this time if the StorageScope Server and the StorageScope Repository
reside on different hosts, and the StorageScope Server is on the same host as the
ControlCenter Repository and/or the ControlCenter Server.

4. Click Next on the welcome screen to go to the "Ready to Install" step of the
wizard.
Figure 1 on page 10 shows the UB8 error handling flowchart.

Note: If the following message appears during installation, then the database upgrade
failed.

Error upgrading database. Please review <log_file>. Please contact

customer service regarding this upgrade failure.

Review the log to determine the cause of the database upgrade failure. Contact
customer service to determine if a hotfix or other fix is needed. Apply any
required hotfixes to fix the issue. Click OK on the original message box.
Another message box will pop up with the following text.
Would you like to retry the database upgrade? Click YES if you would
like to retry upgrading the database. Click NO to abort the
installer. Note that aborting at this point will require you to
rollback to your previous version of ControlCenter.

5. You will receive confirmation that the patch has been successfully applied to
the system with a Finish button.
6. Restart the ControlCenter services.
7. After the ControlCenter server and Repository are rebooted, update the next
infrastructure component in the order shown above.
8. Reboot each infrastructure host and confirm that the ControlCenter services
started.
9. For each ControlCenter 6.1 Console:

Note: If the server is a licensed Terminal Services or Citrix remote access server, then follow
the steps to installing/upgrading the Console in the EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Planning
and Installation Guide, Volume 1 and the EMC Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Upgrade Guide. This step
is only relevant for a Console running on a single user workstation.

a. From a browser, connect to https://<Serverhost>:30002/webinstall.

b. Click Installation, and then select Console Patch 6.1.0.8.470 to apply UB8.
10. Patch the Master Agent first.

! IMPORTANT
Important: The Master Agent must be patched first before the sub-agents can be
patched.

11. Apply patch to all remaining agents.

Note: If the "Apply Patch" task fails when attempting to start agent(s), issue "Restart Master
Agent" from the Console. Refer to the section, “Failed agent recovery instructions” for more
information.

Post installation requirements and optional steps

Post installation requirements
◆ The Invista Agent and all Host Agents running on Hosts accessing Invista
storage will need to be patched to the UB3 or higher. Any Invista instance
previously discovered in the Console must be manually deleted from the
Console and then rediscovered.
◆ If the WLA Archiver host does not have the ECC_INSTALL_ROOT system
environment variable set correctly, the wlahttpserver will not be able to find
the SSL certificates that allow it to communicate with the other Performance
Manager components.
For example, if the ECC_INSTALL_ROOT environment variable is not set,
then create the ECC_INSTALL_ROOT variable using the System Properties,
Advanced, Environment Variables GUI and set the variable value to the
location where ControlCenter is installed. For example: e:\ecc.

Failed agent recovery instructions

If any agent patching tasks appear as failed in a task list, follow these instructions
to recover. These instructions may need to be repeated multiple times depending
on the failure scenario. These scenarios will not apply to future update bundles.

Recovery scenario #1
1. In the Console agent view, verify that agents are active and at the correct
version.
2. If agents are running at the correct version, agent installation is complete and
task failure was due to a timeout and can be disregarded.

Recovery scenario #2
1. In the Console agent view, verify that agents are active and at the correct
version.
2. If agents are not running or are not at the correct version, agent patch
installation was unsuccessful.
3. Stop Master Agent via task manager or remote tool (all mstragent.exe
processes should be stopped).
4. Stop all subagents via task manager or remote tool. Refer to Table 1 on page 13
for agent process names.
5. Restart Master Agent from Windows control panel services dialog.
6. Perform agent patch task.

Recovery scenario #3
1. If Master Agent is currently inactive, patch cannot be applied due to
communication problem or application errors are seen against the
mstragent.exe process
2. Stop Master Agent through Task Manager or remote tool (all mstragent.exe
processes should be stopped).
3. Stop all subagents through Task Manager or remote tool. Refer to Table 1 on
page 13 for agent process names.
4. Restart Master Agent from Windows Control Panel services dialog.

Display trust certificate warning (optional)

Perform the following steps to remove the trust certificate warning every time a
web application is accessed:

Prerequisites
1. Install UB8 by using the directions in this document.
2. On the ControlCenter Server host, open the file:
%ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\ecc_inf\data\ecc_inf_hostname\class\EccSecurit
yConfig.properties
3. Verify that the file has the following setting:
Global.TrustedHostFilter=trust_all

Note: If you change this parameter, the ControlCenter Server must be restarted.

4. Restart the Server service then restart the Store services.

Patching ControlCenter Web Server service

Perform this procedure on all hosts that have the EMC ControlCenter Web Server
service.
1. Back up and delete the following files from your EMC ControlCenter Web
Server host:
• tom.lb from %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\lockbox
• keycert.ks from %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\Tomcat\conf
• trust.ks from %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\Tomcat\conf
2. Stop and start the EMC ControlCenter Web Server service to regenerate the
files you deleted in the previous step.

Importing ControlCenter Trust Certificate in browser

Open the browser and point it to the following ControlCenter web applications
(these include StorageScope, Web Console, Web Install, Performance Manager, and
Documentation Library).
• https://<hostname>:30002/srm
• https://<hostname>:30002/webinstall
• https://<hostname>:30002/eccweb
• https://<hostname>:30002/wla/login.do
For Internet Explorer version 6.0:
1. Launch the Internet Explorer. The security warning should read:
The security certificate was issued by a company you have not chosen to trust.
View the certificate to determine whether you want to trust the certifying
authority.
2. Click View Certificate.
3. Click the Certification Path tab.
4. Select the certificate that is one level up on the path and click View Certificate.
5. Verify that the proper certificate was selected as follows:
a. Click the Details tab.
b. Click on the Subject field
c. If OU value shows "ControlCenter - ROOT" then proceed to the next
step. Otherwise, ensure the proper certificate is selected, starting with
step 3 .
6. Click the General tab, and click Install Certificate to open Import Certificate
Wizard.
7. Click Next on the first wizard screen.
8. Select Place all certificates in the following store and click Browse. Select
Trusted Root Certification Authorities. Click Next and then click Finish.
9. Relaunch the web browser.

For Internet Explorer version 7.0 and later

1. Launch Internet Explorer. The security warning should read:
The security certificate presented by this website was not issued by a trusted
certificate authority. The security certificate presented by this website was
issued for a different website's address. Security certificate problems may
indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.
2. Click Continue to this website (not recommended).
3. There is a red icon that displays "Certificate Error". Click Certificate Error.
4. Click View Certificates when the dialog box appears.
5. Click the Certification Path tab.
6. Select the certificate that is one level up on the path and click View Certificate.
7. Verify that the proper certificate was selected as follows:
a. Select the Details tab.
b. Click on the Subject field.
c. If OU value shows "ControlCenter - ROOT" then proceed to the next
step. Otherwise, ensure the proper certificate is selected starting with
step 5 .
8. Click the General tab, and click Install Certificate to open Import Certificate
Wizard.
