The minimum protected scenario for separation distance between base stations

Predicted radio coverage for a Land Mobile base station (FB) is based on the field
strength needed to induce 0.5μVpd into a ¼ antenna at 1.5m above ground level (a
typical land mobile station (ML). This equates to:

• 80 MHz band: 6dBμV/m;

• 165 MHz band: 12dBμV/m; and
• 450 MHz band: 21dBμV/m.

Predicted coverage is planned to provide a service radius of 45km. An interference

zone lies beyond the radio coverage that extends a further 30km to 75km. Within the
interference zone it is possible that another FB interference zone overlaps so that the
minimum separation distance between FB base stations is two coverage areas (45km
x 2) plus an interference zone (30km), which equals 120km. The interference zone
is calculated on the basis of 12dB Carrier to Interference ratio, which is derived
from ETSI standards. See diagram in next slide……..
