My Mom
To Becca Anderson
God gave my mom a precious gift
Happy Mothers Day! I love you Mommy
of caring for others. She always did without
so us five children could have what we needed.

A mother loves her children even before they are born and continues to do so all her life. My mother, Dorotha
Prather, has been a wonderful mother to me and Philip. There were times in my childhood and teens that we
didn’t see eye to eye. Mom has said that I have told this story too many times…When I was 7 or 8 years old we
had a milk cow and Dad was late coming home from work. Mom told me to milk the cow (understand I’ve never
milked a cow before and it was summer and hot). It took me over an hour to milk the cow and Mom said, “Hurry,
the cow is getting tired!” In my teen years I had been dating Phillip for about a year when Mom said I should date
other guys. I did and she asked, “Do you know what you’re doing?”
I can look back now and laugh at that and other things that happened with my mom and me. To this day we have
a wonderful Mother-Daughter relationship. I love her very much and she is the best friend I have besides Phillip. I
am thankful that I was raised in a Christian home. There isn’t a day of the year that you aren’t special to me, Mom.
(Forgive me about the stories!)
Phillip’s mother, Edith Wampler, was a wonderful Christian mother to us both. She lived on a farm, milked cows,
and worked hard in the hay field. She had a large garden and canned every kid of vegetable and fruit she could
for her husband and 5 children. We are thankful that Phillip was raised in a Christian home too.
God Bless all Mothers

In Memory of My Mother

In 2003, our mother took her pen and wrote a letter to God! The family was unaware of this letter until she left us to
be with her Lord and Savior in 2007. If it weren’t for the prayers of a Godly mother, I don’t know how my life would
have turned out. We miss her deeply but she has a heavenly home now and is completely well! I have included
excerpts from her letter:
Dear God,
As years go by I do not and will not fear or dread old age but look to the precious lives of children and
grandchildren, and yes, great grandchildren and just glory in the life of the youth of my family and other youth
around me. Thanking my Lord for health and strength that I have. That I am not a burden to my precious family.
They are so precious to me and I love each of them dearly and pray they will each grow in their relationship with
Jesus. He is the best friend they can ever have.
She was raised in the South (Arkansas.) At a young age, she started working in the fields, hoeing, chopping and
picking cotton on long hot summer days. She also learned how to cook southern meals. She was the type that
would have very little and turn it into a a wonderful meal. Laundry was done with a lye soap mixture on a
washboard at home or at the river. All of this was learned as a child and into her teens.
My mother raised 6 children, all by the sweat of the brow. She and Dad had a large garden from which she
canned and froze veggies for winter.
My mother never met a stranger. She could talk to anyone and always had a smile. Even during the last year and
a half of her life, when she was bedridden she had a smile and rarely complained.
She loved singing gospel songs. She had a beautiful voice. She also had an extraordinary memory for names
and phone numbers - just knowledge in general. I miss my mother every day. My mother truly was a woman you
could call Mom proudly.
