King Carlos’ watercolour paintings have the smell of the sea! They make me feel so good!
The colours are so well selected: the sky, the sea, the movement of the waves and the
foam remind me of Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean.

Roque Gameiro's paintings are very realistic. They seem like glances, gathered in a specific
time. Although they don’t have the delicacy of the colours of King Carlos’s paintings, they
contain lots of energy and are full of light.

Amadeo de Souza Cardoso

November, the 14th, 1887 | October, the 25th, 1918

Amadeo de Souza Cardoso was a very important Portuguese painter, one of the most known
precursor of modern art; although he passed away, when he was still very young, with only 31
years old, his work became world famous and immortal.

This Amadeo de Souza Cardozo’s painting is so beautiful! All these colours make me feel
I am in the middle of a wide savanna in Africa, on a really hot day. I love the orange
colour.

Every time I look at this painting, I have a mixture of feelings: I feel like crying, I feel
proud, I feel sad.

Amadeo de Souza Cardoso’s oil painting

I prefer the watercolour painting, it’s really pretty, because it’s clearer and it flows; the lady
is very graceful, she looks very classy, her movement is delicate and it looks like the
weather is a bit windy on the beach.

But the oil painting is also very beautiful, because the shapes are geometric and pure,
which makes the painting very contemporary. The house reminds me of a haunted house
and I feel a mysterious atmosphere around it, solitude and majesty. The mixture of the
colours is wonderful, there’s a lot of light. It is really unique. Well succeeded!

Evaluation
What I think about watercolour techniques is that they are difficult, but it’s worthwhile,
because the results are sometimes spectacular and somehow unexpected. I do not know if
I can point out if I like it or not, but here it goes: what I like about watercolours is that they
are transparent, clear like a mirror; what I don’t like is that sometimes it does not flow as
we wish and, if this happens to a person like myself, that’s not easy, it’s tough, believe me.

Conclusion
What I learned about watercolour techniques is that they are hard to apply, very complex,
but also very funny, like a challenge and you want to win it.
