Important Note about E-Mails From Clients and Mission

Selection:
You will receive 2 types of e-mails from clients:

1. A request with a "Reply" button; and

2. A request with an "Ok" button.

• If you decide to embark on a client's request with a Type 2 e-mail (with an exclamation
point), you will need to click on the "Ok" button in the mail first. Select "Yes" on the next
screen and the client's request will become your current mission objective. The "Ok" button
will also change to "Reply".

If you exit out to the mail in-box, you will see a little red tick on the request. This denotes
that the selected request is now active. If you leave the Base Camp and go to the mission
objective area, the scripted event should take place so that you could take the requested
picture. If you decide to go on the mission without performing the above step, you will
return to Base Camp empty handed.
2

Mission 001

This is the first e-mail that you receive and it always remains in the inbox. Use this often to submit
new photos to HQ. The new animals that you have taken will be added to the Field Guide and this
will trigger the clients' photo requests to appear in the in-box the following morning.

Please see the Appendix for full information about where to find every animal in the game.
3

Mission 002
Thomson’s Gazelle

Location: Duma Steppe

Special Requirements: The picture must also include the adult Gazelle.
Tips: Make sure you get several of them in the picture. It doesn’t have to be from as close up as
this example picture.
4

Mission 003
Hippo Yawning

Location: Duma Steppe (Hippo Pool)

Special Requirements: The hippo must be yawning, which it will only do if you are far enough
away so that it doesn’t see you.
Tips: Keep out of their line of sight, stay crouched and make use of the available cover. Make
small movements as these grouchy hippos have a very keen sense of hearing. The hippo will yawn
only when it is calm and relaxed.
5

Mission 004
Giraffe Drinking

Location: Duma Steppe (Awali Oasis)

Special Requirements: Take a picture of a giraffe drinking water, most preferably at an angle as
shown in the e-mail.
Tips: Keep your distance and you will be rewarded with a photo opportunity. This is a mission that
you must accept, so you can be sure the giraffes will march directly to the watering hole and drink.
6

Mission 005
Cheetah’s Hunting (Big Game #1)

Location: Duma Steppe (Hatari Hunt)

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: After you’ve completed a few missions, you will be driven out into the fields where the
Cheetah hangs out. Spot her with your binoculars to trigger a cut scene. You will get an e-mail
the next day for this mission. This is another mission that you must accept (it will be in the upper
right hand corner of your screen once accepted).

The Safari Guide will first drive you to the location. Then, he will continue to drive you around the
Safari area in circles as the sun comes up. You will spot the cheetah on your second pass through
the area if you are using the binoculars. Do not use the camera viewfinder to try to spot it, the Big
Game Trophy sequence will not trigger. Always use the binoculars only.

Once you catch sight of the Cheetah, the sequence will start. Completing this mission should
unlock the Kiboko Swamp area (you’ll get an e-mail about it the next day).

Camera Tip: For best results, enable the Continuous Advance (3 frames per second)
operation mode on your Sony Alpha 100.
7

Mission 006
Topi Side View

Location: Duma Steppe

Special Requirements: Take a picture of a Topi side-on.
Tips: For best results, stay crouched and don't make any sudden movements. They will leisurely
stroll past if you anticipate their path.
8

Mission 007
Zebra (Face Close-up)

Location: Duma Steppe (Awali Oasis)

Special Requirements: Take a picture of a zebra head-on.
Tips: The zebras take a distinct path, so all you need to do is to crouch directly in front of them.
They’ll walk right up to you (only to startle themselves and run off after they get too close – so
keep snapping pictures as they approach).
9

Mission 008
Vervet Monkey

Location: Duma Steppe (Base Camp)

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: Just look up.
10

Mission 011
Giraffe (Face Close-up)

Location: Duma Steppe (Awali Oasis)

Special Requirements: Must be a close-up shot of the Giraffe's head.
Tips: This is a mission you must accept. When you are standing next to the tree at the Awali
Oasis, press the Circle Button on your controller to climb up the tree. The giraffe may take some
time to arrive after you’ve climbed the tree; just wait patiently. He should saunter over from
somewhere in the distance.
11

Mission 012
Elephant

Location: Kiboko Swamp

Special Requirements: Take a close-up picture of the elephant with the biggest tusks.
Tips: This is a mission that you must accept. Use the binoculars to spot the elephants when you
are in the area (at the far northeast of the map) and drive the jeep towards the island with termite
mounds (top right corner on GPS map). This should trigger a brief conversation and the elephants
will start to move out of the swamp. Contrary to what the e-mail video may suggest, you are not
required to provoke the elephant. Position yourself directly in the elephant's path and let it walk
towards you.
12

Mission 013
African Buffalo

Location: Kiboko Swamp

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: Take your time to shoot a great picture, because you will receive a complimentary copy of
the published magazine article (with your photo in it) for the Bookshelf back at Base Camp!

Although this is a mission you must accept, the picture you use doesn’t necessarily have to be
taken while the mission is accepted. For example, I just used the first picture I had taken of the
Buffalo, and it worked because it happened to be close enough.
13

Mission 014
Affection of African Elephants (Big Game #2)

Location: Kiboko Swamp (Water Tree)

Special Requirements: The small baby elephant must be in the picture.
Tips: Simply climb the Water Tree in Kiboko Swamp to trigger a cut scene.

Tip of the Day: Remember to submit your photo to HQ as well via the first e-mail. This adds the
3D animated model of the baby Elephant to the Field Guide.
14

Mission 015
Impala Harem

Location: Kiboko Swamp

Special Requirements: The male and two female Impala must be in the picture.
15

Mission 016
Cattle Egret on a Field with Elephants

Location: Kiboko Swamp

Special Requirements: None.
16

Mission 017
Black Crowned Crane

Location: Kiboko Swamp

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: If you have trouble finding one, there's a Black Crowned Crane that lands periodically on
the island located at the top right corner on the GPS map. The island has some termite mounds
on it.

This mission can be a bit tricky. The shot has to be pretty close, and I think it might help if the
crane is facing in the direction of the camera. Although the video e-mail shows two cranes,
only one needs to be in the picture.
17

Mission 021
Ostrich Courtship Dance

Location: Choroa Gorge (Anthill Area)

Special Requirements: The male Ostrich must be performing the courtship dance – he will
only do this if he is unaware of your presence.
Tips: This is a mission you must accept.
18

Mission 022
Elephant Spraying Water From Trunk

Location: Choroa Gorge (Polepole Falls)

Special Requirements: Must be taken in portrait and the elephant must be showering itself.
This will only occur if the elephant is not aware of your presence.
Tips: This is a mission you must accept. While you’re here, check the nearby boulders for the
Rainbow Agama and send its picture via the first e-mail.
19

Mission 023
Meerkats

Location: Choroa Gorge (Anthill Area)

Special Requirements: Must be taken with the Animal Trap Cam.
Tips: The Meerkat must be standing upright, as shown.

Tip of the Day: Remember to submit your photo to HQ as well via the first e-mail. This adds
the 3D animated model of the Meerkat to the Field Guide.
20

Mission 024
Wild Dogs’ Hunting (Big Game #3)

Location: Choroa Gorge

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: Eventually you will reach a point when driving into Choroa Gorge and heading towards
the tree where the animals gather will trigger a cut scene showing the wild dogs looking at the
impala. Nothing happens – but the next morning you will get an e-mail.

You must accept the mission on the e-mail. Then just drive out to Choroa and trigger the cut
scene again – but this time there will be a hunt.

Tip of the Day: Remember to submit your photo to HQ as well via the first e-mail. This adds
the African Wild Dog profile to the Field Guide. Completion of this mission should also open up
the Lake Heroe area.
21

Mission 025
Hartebeest

Location: Choroa Gorge

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: You might need multiple Hartebeest in the shot to pass this mission.
22

Mission 026
Rainbow Agama

Location: Choroa Gorge (Polepole Falls)

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: Although the video e-mail for this mission shows a picture of a green agama, it’s actually
the brightly colored male agama that you’re looking for.

Tip of the Day: If you can’t find the agama by Polepole Falls, check Mt. Hakuna Matata in Lake
Heroe.
23

Mission 027
Ostrich Close-up

Location: Choroa Gorge (Anthill Area)

Special Requirements: Take a close-up shot of an Ostrich.
Tips: Don't try to outrun them; you will surely lose. Just observe their movements and let them
come to you.
24

Mission 031
Elephant Sound Recording

Location: Kiboko Swamp

Special Requirements: Record an elephant's voice (trumpeting).
Tips: This is a mission you must accept. Once accepted, simply drive to the center of Kiboko
Swamp to trigger a cut scene. You will then have exited from the vehicle; make your way close to
the elephants and press Circle to bring out the recording device. Point it at the elephants and wait.

“Success” will flash across the screen when the recording is done – if time runs out and you fail,
simply try again the next day. When replying to the e-mail, you’ll send the cassette of the audio
instead of a picture.

Note: The completion of this mission unlocks the Elephant Call in the AFRIKA Viewer.
25

Mission 032
Flamingoes

Location: Lake Heroe.

Special Requirements:
Tips: The game can be a bit picky about what it will accept for this mission. Try to replicate as best
as possible the example picture – a close-up shot of the flamingo coming in for a landing.
26

Mission 033
Olive Baboon with Baby

Location: Lake Heroe

Special Requirements: Take a picture of a mother Olive Baboon with her baby.
Tips: This is a mission you must accept. The baby will not appear until you’ve climbed Mt.
Hakuna Matata at least once.

Tip of the Day: Remember to submit your photo to HQ as well via the first e-mail. This adds the
3D animated model of the baby Baboon to the Field Guide.
27

Mission 034
Leopard’s Hunting (Big Game #4)

Location: Lake Heroe

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: Contrary to what the video e-mail suggests, this is a daytime mission, and it takes place in 2
phases. After you have accepted the mission, drive your Safari Jeep around the Lake Heroe area
(by the baboon forest) until you trigger a cut scene. This is the end of the 1st phase. Do not wait
until nightfall, because nothing else will happen. Go get some beauty rest and return to the same
spot the next morning. The 2nd phase will now start.

Tip of the Day: Remember to submit your photo to HQ as well via the first e-mail. This adds the
Leopard profile to the Field Guide.
28

Mission 035
BushBuck

Location: Lake Heroe

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: There are plenty of these both by the lakeside and at DikiDiki Fountain (the pool of water
behind Mt. Hakuna Matata).
29

Mission 036
Marabou Stork

Location: Lake Heroe (Dikidiki Fountain)

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: There are a few hanging out near the African Buffalo area, but it is easier to take close-up
shots of the one at Dikidiki Fountain.
30

Mission 037
Red-Billed Oxpeckers Hitching a Free Ride

Location: Lake Heroe

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: The challenge here is to take a good close-up picture of the Red-Billed Oxpecker. Plan ahead
and let the pair come to you for the shot.
31

Mission 040
Wildebeest Crossing River (Big Game #5)

Location: Kiwanja Plain (Mamba River)

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: You will receive a field report in the e-mail regarding the sighting of Wildebeests at the river
bank (pictured). You need to drive the Jeep over to the river bank to spot the Wildebeests again
(the first encounter was during Mission 043, the tour around Kiwanja Plain). A brief conversation
will appear and after your return to Base Camp, you will receive the e-mail for this mission in the
following morning. You must accept the mission. Then simply head back out to the river to trigger
the cut scene.

Note: The completion of this mission unlocks CAM-09 (flying camera) in the AFRIKA
Viewer.

Spotted Hyenas will now appear in Duma Steppe. The Gerenuk and the baby Masai Giraffe will
also appear in Choroa Gorge. Make sure you identify all of them.
32

Mission 041
Giraffe Walking In Sunset I

Location: Kiwanja Plain

Special Requirements: Must be taken in portrait mode.
Tips: Take a good picture because it will end up on the front cover of an issue of the National
Geographic magazine!
33

Mission 042
Lioness

Location: Kiwanja Plain (Area around Simba Kopje)

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: The lioness will appear before you actually get this e-mail. Sending her picture via the first e-
mail will cause Mission 42 to come to your inbox. Start looking for her around the time you get an
e-mail about Mission 45.

Tip of the Day: Although this is a mission you must accept, the picture you send doesn’t have to
be taken while the mission is accepted. For example, I used my first picture of the lioness to both
trigger and pass this mission.
34

Mission 043
A Small Hill (Kopje) On The African Plains

Location: Kiwanja Plain (Simba Kopje)

Special Requirements: Take a picture of using the Trap Cam at Simba Kopje. You must be in the
picture as well.
Tips: This is the introductory tour that usually kicks off when you first enter a new unlocked area.
Maybe the Safari Guide had an earlier dental appointment and had to postpone the tour, who
knows? In any case, he's back behind the wheel and any missing landmarks will appear on the
Kiwanja Plain map (when you return to Base Camp).

Eventually the tour will stop at Simba Kopje; it’s here that you’ll take the picture.

You may also notice the giant herd of wildebeest across the river during the tour.
35

Mission 044
Nile Crocodile

Location: Kiwanja Plain (Mamba Beach)

Special Requirements: Take a picture of an angry Nile Crocodile with the R/C Operated Camera.
Tips: Press Circle button to take the shots. When you are done, press the X button to retrieve the
R/C Cam.

Tip of the Day: Remember to submit your photo to HQ as well via the first e-mail. This adds the
Nile Crocodile profile to the Field Guide.

If the e-mail in-box is empty after the completion of this mission, please refer to the tips
for Mission 040 (check the riverbanks for Wildebeest).
36

Mission 045
Warthog With Babies

Location: Kiwanja Plain (Chui Kopje)

Special Requirements: The adult Warthog must be in the picture with the babies.
Tips: If the baby warthogs do not appear, don’t fret; they’ll show up eventually. Keep
trying.

Tip of the Day: Remember to submit your photo to HQ as well via the first e-mail. This adds the
3D animated model of the baby Warthog to the Field Guide.

Also: Around the time of this mission, a lioness should appear around Simba Kopje in Kiwanja
Plain. Taking her picture and sending it via the first e-mail will open up Mission 42.
37

Mission 046
Eland Under Shade of Tree

Location: Kiwanja Plain (Simba Kopje)

Special Requirements: The picture of an Eland must be taken from a high vantage point (climb
the tree).

(accepted).
38

Mission 049
Lion’s Pride (Big Game #6)

Location: Kiwanja Plain (Simba Kopje)

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: This is a mission you must accept. Just drive out to Simba Kopje to trigger the cut scene.

the first e-mail. This adds the 3D animated models of both baby and child African Lion to the Field
Guide.
39

Mission 052
Masai Giraffe With Baby

Location: Choroa Gorge (Sand Tree)

Special Requirements: The picture must include the adult Masai Giraffe and the baby.

Gerenuk to HQ via the first e-mail (Mission 001). The Gerenuk only appears after you have
successfully completed Mission 040. From afar it looks very similar to the Thomson's Gazelle; the
difference is in the Gerenuk's long slender neck and a smaller head.

Tip of the Day: While you are in Choroa Gorge, take a look for the baby Masai Giraffe and
submit a photo of it via the first e-mail. This will unlock Mission 52.
45

Mission 056
African Porcupine In The Dark

Location: Duma Steppe (Awali Oasis)

to the outside for the night safari. Your partner will drive you around at night, so keep your
attention focused on the plains around you. You will find the porcupine somewhere around Awali
Oasis.

to give some funny poses while you are at it, please feel free to do so.
48

Mission 059
Zebra (Face Close-up)

Location: Kiwanja Plain

Special Requirements: Must be taken in portrait and the zebra must be performing the above
action (pictured).
Tips: Chase zebra around on foot until it stands its ground. Quickly bring up your camera and snap
the picture while the zebra is rearing up on its hind legs – if you miss the shot, run away and try
again when the screen stops flashing. Otherwise you risk getting attacked.

coming out blurry.

Tips: You don't have to be in the picture.
50

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: With or without the adult Hippopotamus - the client will still accept the picture as long as the
baby is in it.

3D animated model of the baby Hippopotamus to the Field Guide.
51

trigger Big Game #9, Fight of White Rhinoceros. There is no accompanying e-mail for this
mission. After it’s over, make sure you ID the white rhino by sending a picture of it via the first e-
mail. This will ensure that you get Mission 77 in your mailbox.

get him later on anyway.

happens, you can use the R/C camera on him. He will only appear once you’ve received the e-mail
about him, though.

Special Requirements: Must be taken in portrait mode.
Tips: This is a mission you must accept. Drive to Kiwanja and talk to the Masai fellow there – he’ll
mention that he’s seen a new animal over at one of the kopjes (Chui Kopje). Drive to it to prompt a
cut scene revealing the footprints in the mud left by a Mystery Creature. There is an icon for the
Remote Cam here, but you don’t have to use it.
66

Mission 081
Crittercam #2

Location: Kiwanja Plain

Special Requirements: Read below.
Tips: This is a mission you must accept. Drive to Kiwanja and pay attention to the meter in the
left hand side of the screen – not just the frequency of beeps, but also the height of the spikes. As
they get higher and closer together, you’ll know you’re approaching the collared lioness. Drive
slowly, or it may not work.

Once you’ve found her, a cut scene will play. Get out of your jeep and creep up to her, using cover
to stay safe. Once you’re close enough, you’ll be able to press Circle to remove the Crittercam from
her. She’ll wander off; once she’s gone, pick up the Crittercam. You’ll have to send it to HQ to pass
the mission.

Tip of the Day: While you’re wandering the plains looking for the lioness, keep an eye out for the
baby zebra and baby wildebeest. If you spot them, make sure to send a picture of them via the
first e-mail.
67

Mission 082
Temminck’s Pangolin

Location: Kiwanja Plain (Simba Kopje)

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: This is a night mission that you must accept. You’ll be taken to Kiwanja Plain – the pangolin
will appear almost immediately, as you’ll start near the watering hole at Simba Kopje. That’s where
it can be found.

Tip of the day: Make sure to send the pangolin’s picture via the first e-mail to ID it.

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: Way up on the rocky hills on the northern side of Kubwa Rock, there’ll be a place for you to

the safe side.
84

Mission 101
Adolescent Male Lion

Location: Kiwanja Plain (Faru Kopje)

Special Requirements: None.
Tips: One of my favorite missions. The kopje in question is in the southwest of Kiwanja Plain; drive

rocks, too!
85

Mission 102
What Has the Mystery Creature Been Eating? (No video e-mail)

left.

You’ll be taken to a hot air balloon where you’ll soar majestically over Kiwanja Plain. Along the ride,
you’ll encounter Big Game #20, Lion vs. African Elephant. And you’ll also finally get a glimpse
of the Mystery Creature that’s been leaving its tracks and leftover meals all over Kiwanja – it’s the
Barbary Lion! Make sure to snap a picture.

Important: You can’t replay this mission once it’s done, so I’d recommend saving your game
BEFORE playing it. As it’s one of the coolest sequences in the game, it’d be a shame to never be
able to come back to it.

ID it, also.

As you can see, the baby Black Rhino has also made an appearance. ID him, too.
104

Loose Ends

• If you send the picture of the Barbary Lion via the first e-mail, you’ll get lots
of extra cash.

• Tool #20 is a green bottle that can be found at the base of Polepole Falls in
Choroa Gorge – just be careful getting to it!
