1. Introduction
mScorecard™ is the ultimate golf scorecard, statistics and GPS application for java-enabled
mobile devices, such as Mobile Phones, BlackBerry® and Windows Mobile devices.
mScorecard™ is the fastest, easiest and most effective mobile golf software package on
the market: as quick to use as paper scorecards, but far more effective. It instantly
calculates scores, handicaps, stableford points, net scores and advanced round statistics
for up to five players simultaneously.
mScorecard™ was developed and course-tested by golfers. That’s why it has more of the
features serious golfers need and want.
2.1. Overview
There are two ways to download and install mScorecard™:
1. Directly to your mobile device using the internet connection of your device.
2. Via PC. If your mobile device can be connected to your computer, e.g. via
Bluetooth, infrared or cable.
Both of these ways are described in the following chapters. Please refer the user guide of
your device for more detailed instructions on how to install Java applications to your
device.
2.4. Upgrading
mScorecard allows you to check for updates by selecting Settings > Check for Updates
in the mobile application. If an update is found, the application asks whether you want to
download it.
You can also upgrade by downloading and installing the latest version as described in
chapters 2.2 and 2.3.
Note: do not remove the previous version because that would erase all the
information stored in your mScorecard™, e.g. Courses, Rounds and Player information.
It is also a good idea to store your data on the server before upgrading mScorecard™. In
this way your have a backup on the server in case something goes wrong during the
upgrade.
3. Starting and Setting up mScorecard
3.1. Overview
When mScorecard™ is launched the following screen is displayed:
It shows the version information. If the license key has not been entered the word “Trial”
is displayed after the version number, as well as the number of days or times
mScorecard™ can still be used before a valid license key must be entered. If the count
reaches to zero the application cannot be started without a valid license key.
Enter the license key you received via e-mail when you purchased mScorecard™. After a
license key is successfully entered and Save is selected, the restrictions of the trial version
are removed and the full version is unlocked.
You can open the License screen later anytime by selecting the Settings > User Settings
command in the Main screen.
3.3. Creating your Player Profile
When you launch mScorecard for the first time, you are asked to create your own player
profile. If you already have player profiles stored on your device, you can either select one
of them or create a new profile. If you choose to create a new profile, you need to fill out a
Your Player Profile form.
Your Player Profile is automatically added as the first player to each round. On the
mScorecard website you can access your stats and player data by clicking the My Profile
link.

9.1. Overview
A player that is on one or more rounds stored on the device cannot be deleted.
10.1. Overview
mScorecard™ automatically calculates handicaps for all players based on played rounds
and player’s handicap system. The mScorecard™ handicap is not an official handicap and
in order to establish and maintain an official handicap, please follow the rules and
guidelines of your national golf association.
Handicaps are calculated centrally on the server. Whenever a new round is sent to the
server, new handicaps are calculated for the players on that round. If a round is marked as
a handicap round for the player, as described in section 5.1, it will be used in the handicap
calculations.
The process goes as follows:
1. Choose a handicap system for each player (see section 10.2).
2. When starting a new round or editing an existing round, specify whether it is a handicap
round for each player (see section 5.1).
3. After the round is complete, post it to the server (see section 7.2).
4. The server calculates a new handicap for each player of that round based on the player’s
handicap system and the handicap rounds stored on the server. If player’s handicap
changes the following screen is displayed:
5. If you want to update the new handicaps on the device, tick the player checkbox.
6. Select OK.
10.2. Selecting Handicap System
By clicking the Edit Hcp History you can edit handicap rounds and manually adjust
handicaps.
10.4. Handicap Systems
mScorecard™ currently supports the following handicap systems:
America mScorecard™ does not use the USGA handicap formula because this is
prohibited by the USGA. However, mScorecard™ provides a good
approximation for the player’s handicap.
Handicap is calculated using the best 10 rounds from the last 20 rounds.
If there are less than 20 handicap rounds stored then the 50% of the
rounds are used in the calculation. At least 4 handicap rounds have to be
stored in order to be able to calculate the handicap.
The handicap is calculated by taking 92% of the average of the best
handicap differentials.
An equitable stroke control is used to limit the maximum number of
strokes on each hole.
Asia Handicap is calculated using the best 10 rounds from the last 20 rounds.
New Zealand Handicap is calculated using the best 10 rounds from the last 20 rounds.

South Africa Handicap is calculated using the best 10 rounds from the last 20 rounds.
At least 5 handicap rounds have to be stored in order to be able to
calculate the handicap.
The handicap is calculated by taking the average of the best handicap
differentials.
An equitable stroke control is used to limit the maximum number of
strokes on each hole as follows: A golfer may take as many double drops
as his/her handicap allows. The double drops are taken automatically as
they occur until all the double drops have been taken.
UK & Ireland Handicap is calculated after each round based on nett differentials, using
the following definitions:
Course handicap = playing handicap
Course rating = Standard Scratch Score (SSS) = CSS
If a nett differential is above the buffer zone, the handicap is increased
by 0.1.
If a nett differential less than zero, the handicap is reduced by an amount
per stroke that the differential is below zero. The amount per stroke is
between 0.1 and 0.5 and is determined by the players' handicap
category.
An equitable stroke control (stableford adjustement) is used to limit the
maximum number of strokes on each hole.
11. Side Games
11.1. Overview
mScorecard™ includes the following popular sidegames:
Skins
Nassau
Match Play
Stroke Play
British Stableford
Longest Drive
Greenies (closest to pin)
Birdies
Eagles
Each sidegame can be played between 2 – 5 players, except Nassau that is played
between 2 or 4 players. A wager amount, game variations and participating players can be
selected for each game.
Option Description
Players 2-5
Handicaps Skins can be played with handicaps when net strokes are
used.
Par to Win This option means that in order to win the hole, the player
has to have par or better. Otherwise the hole is tied.
Last hole / Tiebreaker In case there is a tie on the last hole, the players should
determine the method of solving the tie. Common ways
include a chip-off (closest to the pin) or a putt-off. The
tiebreak winner can be entered on the Sidegame Results
screen by selecting the Options | Tiebreaker command.
11.4. Nassau
In a Nassau there are three matches: The front 9 holes, the back 9 nine and overall round
of 18 holes. Points are calculated by scoring each hole as a separate match (match play).
The player with the lowest score on a hole wins a point. If there is a tie, no points are
awarded.
Option Description
Wager The wager amount specifies the point value of each match.
Presses
If a player or team falls down they can press the opponent. The press starts a new mini-
match for the remaining holes of the nine being played. The press amount is the amount of
the original bet (i.e. double-or-nothing). The original Nassau is still in effect while the press
is being played. There is no limit on the number of presses that can be put into effect.
Presses don't have to be accepted, but usually are.
If Nassau is played with mScorecard™ a Nassau row is displayed in the Hole View. It
shows how many holes are won by each player. A press can be done by pressing the fire
action key or selecting the Set Value command on the Nassau row. A press is indicated by
a P letter. The press can be removed by pressing the fire action key or selecting the Set
Value command again.
11.5. British Stableford
In British stableford points are awarded on each hole based on the following system:
Albatross 5
Eagle 4
Birdie 3
Par 2
Bogey 1
Double Bogey 0
Option Description
