Short Documents: The objective of the short documents is to introduce you to the conventions
and constraints of common business writing genres. The requirements for each short document
are outlined separately.

Oral Presentation and Discussion Leadership: Each student will sign up to do a presentation over
a chapter or section of a chapter. You will be expected to do a 6 minute presentation and lead
a 15 minute discussion or activity to help your peers learn the required material. Please review
the separate assignment sheet for specifics.

Quizzes: There will be 12 quizzes over the chapter readings in Kolin throughout the quarter.
They are noted on the daily schedule below. I do not give pop quizzes. You can expect fill-in-
the-blank style and short answer questions to predominate each quiz. The quizzes will be given
at the beginning of each noted class session and students who are more than five minutes late
will not be allowed to take that day's quiz. Your two lowest quiz grades will be dropped.

Midterm and Final Projects: The midterm project is the creation of a professional website for
yourself. In the 21st century, it is necessary that not only do you avoid negative representations
online, but that when employers search for you there are position representations of you. The
final project is a long report, tailored to your major and area of interest.

Comprehensive Final Exam: There will be a comprehensive written exam during our scheduled
final exam time (noted on the daily schedule). The exam will ask you to apply the knowledge
you've gained about business situations over the course of the quarter. A study guide for the
exam will be provided by week 9. You will only be able to schedule an alternate exam time if
you provide documentation that another final exam you must take conflicts with our exam time.

Course Policies
Student Work:
Please follow the daily schedule closely and turn in all drafts to the proper location. All work is due
by the beginning of class, unless otherwise noted. I do not accept late work unless you have an
excused absence and we've discussed it in writing prior to the deadline. Technology issues are not an
excuse for late work. Plan ahead and anticipate that you will have technology issues arise during the
course of the quarter. Give yourself enough time to solve them.

Collaborative Work:
On collaborative writing assignments, all students will receive the same grade as their group
members. Your grade for collaborative assignments is based on the product that you and your
classmates produce. All work will be done individually in the class, expect for the final project,
which has a collaborative option.

Plagiarism:
is the unauthorized use of the words or ideas of another person. It is a serious academic offense that
can result in referral to the Committee on Academic Misconduct and failure for the course. Please
remember that at no point during the writing process should the work of others be presented as your
own. "It is the responsibility of the Committee on Academic Misconduct to investigate or establish
procedures for the investigation of all reported cases of student academic misconduct. The term
"academic misconduct" includes all forms of student academic misconduct wherever committed;
illustrated by, but not limited to, cases of plagiarism and dishonest practices in connection with
examinations. Instructors shall report all instances of alleged academic misconduct to the committee
(Faculty Rule 3335-5-487). For additional information, see the Code of Student Conduct."

Class Cancellation Policy:

In the unlikely event of class cancellation, I will contact you via email and request that a note on
