HUMANITIES (Midterm Esaay)

1. ³Agreeable is what the senses like to sense.´

When we speak of agreeable, it refers to a sensory experience that makes its peak of sensing its
ideal sense. So, there is certain criterion for us to come up with what the sense like or not or if it
is agreeable or disagreeable by its context. Then we can also say that agreeable is a judgment
wherein it passes our criterion (general perception or taste) which our sense experience pleasure
where we are able to have inclination therefore we liked the object referred to. To make things
easier, agreeable is something that we could reflect to our own criterion that gives satisfaction to
the human senses.

A simple example for this is when an individual with a fascination to computers. She could
probably easily say if a computer is agreeable or not in just single glance because he/she has the
prior taste of what is an agreeable or disagreeable computer by just means of touching or merely
looking at the machine.

2. ³Tasting is the ability to judge an object by means of a liking or disliking devoid of interest.´

Taste is the first level of moment in making a perception whether something is beautiful or not. It
was also stated that taste is our general perception on the object wherein we felt pleasure or
displeasure upon the object devoid of our all interest because we tend to think objectively
towards the object of reference. Therefore, this ability is based on your personal bias concerning
the object. But even we have a personal bias on this, we also have devoid our interest toward the
object of reference.

We can further understand this with our taste of choosing for the most appropriate dress in a
costume party. When an individual have chosen a princess-like outfit for a costume party it
reflects her taste. Why? On the moment that person chooses her dress, she felt the pleasure upon

the object that gives her an inclination with it. She has chosen it not to impress every people, or
to be the most attractive but to express her and be appropriate in the party. Here, she devoid the
mere concept of an individual to gain interest from the people; hence, she have chosen the outfit
just to have a suitable attire.

3. ³Beautiful is that concept which is liked universally without bias.´

When we are telling if something is beautiful, we are going to judge in an objective manner
wherein we will see a certain view more that you became agreeable with it because it gives
pleasure but because it is also universally accepted.

When we speak of universal it must be agreed by certain number of people and was globally
accepted. But when we talk about bias, it is a one-way perspective and reclining to accept
another¶s point of view because it gives favor in what it just believes. Then, beautiful is
something that was accepted by the majority but it somewhat contravene the prior knowledge of
a society.

A good example for this is when we see a gay as beautiful. Nowadays, many societal groups
have the acceptance to the gay world. Here, when it had spoke of beautiful, it is a concept where
people had the pleasure and further comprehended. Then the society accepted it because
increasing number of people tend to be agreeable with it because there are several nuber of gays
which are both beauty and brains. And the majority liked them and accepted them as beautiful
more than what the custom speaks about gays.

4. ³A human being is both a beautiful and sublime creature.´

When we speak of sublime it is something which is not a manmade object. It is something made
by the Supreme Being, meaning it is untouchable, with its outmost beauty and almost perfection
which we cannot perceive by our means of only sensing. While on the other hand, beautiful is

something that we universally know that was either created or enhanced by human efforts. In
beautiful, we tend to also feel the pleasure but after sometime we comprehend in order for us to
tell if it is beautiful or merely agreeable.

To make a picture of this, a human being is a creature created by the Supreme Being with its
outmost totality because it is all created with magnificence of its kind then therefore a human
being is sublime. On the other hand, a human being can be touched and further comprehend
based from a perspective¶s taste, universality, form of purposiveness, and which the knowledge
of the concept is not necessary or in other words, humans are also beautiful.

If we are going to view it in a certain manner, human are both sublime and beautiful because it
was untouched and magnificent by its kind and at the same time it is beautiful because of its
universality and the alteration of common knowledge on it would not change its totality.
