made, only give where the distributor is located. It is impor-
tant to read the bar code to track it's origin.
How to read Bar Codes .... You can differentiate what is made
in Taiwan or China. If the first 3 digits of the barcode are 690,
691 or 692, the product is MADE IN CHINA. 471 is Made
in Taiwan . Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that con-
sumers do not prefer products "MADE IN CHINA", so they
don't show from which country it is made. However, you
may now refer to the barcode - remember if the first 3 digits
are: 690-692 ... then it is MADE IN CHINA

SURVEYING THE EARLY BARNS OF WASHINGTON
COUNTY- “Surveying the Early Barns of Washington County”
will be the topic presented by William Krattinger at the Hebron
Preservation Society on Thursday, May 12 at 7:30 P.M. This
talk will describe initial efforts to create a system of identification,
recordation and interpretation for the early timber-frame barns
of the region. The discussion will focus on such things as use,
layout, and framing methods. Mr. Krattinger is currently a
National Register of Historic Places Program Analyst for
portions of the Hudson Valley, Capital District and Adirondack
regions - 16 counties in all - and oversees that program in
Washington County. He is employed at the New York State
Historic Preservation Office where he has worked since 1999.
This powerpoint program which is free and open to the public
will be held at the East Hebron Presbyterian Church, 6559 NYS
Route 22, south of Granville in East Hebron. A general business
meeting at 7:00 P.M. will precede the talk and refreshments will

AFTER THE FIRE PERFORMS LITTER CONTROL- After
The Fire has adopted the Assemblyman Jim Tedisco Fitness
Trail in Ballston Spa for litter control since 2006. Members
Kathleen Koines & Kathy Hedgeman made their first trip
recently, and the trail will be maintained on a regular basis by
various members until the show files. Unfortunately, in addition
to general litter, one of the many bird houses along the trail had
been destroyed, for which there is no good reason. Bags have
been attached to benches at each end of the mile-long round trip
trail, and one midway on a fence. Users of the trail are urged to
either carry out their litter or use the litter bags, as a courtesy to
others and to obey the law.
KIDS FISHING DERBY- The Salem Fish and Game Club
will be hosting its Annual Kids Fishing Derby at the Lake
Lauderdale Park (on State Route 22, Cambridge, NY) on Saturday,
May 21, 2011 from 12 noon to 3:00 pm rain or shine. The
Derby is open to all kids age 14 and younger. Contestants must
bring their own equipment/bait and be accompanied by an adult.
Fishing will be catch and release and admission is free. Prizes
will be awarded in several age groups and for the “catch of the
day.” All contestants will receive a door prize and free food and

•CHAMBER MUSIC AT THE CCC. The Courthouse Community
Center in Salem will once again come to life with the music of Mozart,
Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms and more. A collaborative partnership
with Daniel Shulman, an accomplished pianist and conductor educated
at Juilliard, Dartmouth and Columbia led to the first series last spring
which was well received. The 2011 chamber music series will take
place on Sunday, May 15th and June 12th at 3 pm in the second
floor courtroom. The courtroom has been praised for its exceptional
acoustics which makes it a natural venue for music presentations. It
has been said that chamber music is like an intimate conversation
among friends. The series will be offering a talented and noteworthy
group of musicians including violinist Kaori Washiyama who has
performed throughout this country and abroad. Mr. Shulman’s
insightful narrative each performance adds to the listener’s enjoyment.

Bark For Life of Greenwich will be held at the Washington County
Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 14th from 3-7 PM. Registration
begins at 2 PM. Bark for Life is open to all those who wish to
participate in a fun event that will raise funds and awareness for
the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer, but we
especially wish to invite your best canine friend. Bark for Life
will entertain participants and onlookers with demonstrations, a
vendor fair, a silent auction, contests and games. Dog owners are
encouraged to bring costumes for the cutest dog and silliest dog
competitions. Each dog must be individually escorted individually
by a human who will trail behind by a leash no longer than 6 ‘ in
length. Retractable leashes are not permitted. Dog owners must
bring a current rabies vaccine certificate to be admitted into the
event. Each escort is responsible for cleaning up after their canine

•HISTORY COME TO LIFE AT THE CCC The Iron Rail
exhibit which will be on view in the Salem Courthouse Community
Center Great Hall from May 1st until June 12th. This interactive
exhibit will provide the viewer with great insight into the influence
the train industry had on local lives and livelihoods. Aside from a
wide selection of archived photographs and informative CD’s,
there will be a fascinating selection of railroad artifacts including
tools and signal lanterns. There will also be model trains for
viewer enjoyment including an antique wooden circus train that
belonged to the Gus Collins family. Charlie Perry has loaned a
train set which includes an original Lionel diesel locomotive. For
the true train enthusiast, Bill Taber, owner of the Battenkill
Railroad, will be present during the opening reception on May
1st. The opening reception will take place on Sunday, May 1st,
from 1 – 4 pm and guests young and old are invited to attend.

Association will award the Francis Ostrander Scholarship of $350 to a
member of the senior class at Schuylerville Central High School who
will be attending a two or four year college in the fall. A $250 scholarship

4PM Creek Cleanup at Dionondehowa Needs Workers! On Saturday
May 7 from 9AM - 4PM Dionondehowa is seeking volunteers to help
complete the cleanup of a creekside dump which was deposited over
the course of about thirty years when the Sanctuary lands were still
part of an active farm. This loosely-defined anthropological exploration
needs intrepid workers who can bring a love of streams, sturdy work
gloves & boots and openness to restorative healing. Lunch will be
provided. David Hunt, of Ecological Intuition and Medicine, will lead

Dionondehowa Birdwatching is always good at Dionondehowa, but
once a year we gather - more formally - with bird enthusiast Nat Parke
to guide the way. Bird walk participants will quietly roam the 217-acre
forever-wild land trust in search of the many species who migrate
through, return to nest or are year-round residents. It’s important to
dress for a moderately challenging hike with sturdy, supportive
footwear and layered clothing to get warmer or cooler as needed. Bring
field glasses and field guides, if available, and insect repellent that is
effective with ticks. There is a suggested donation to support the
