Shine is currently delivering the Building Schools for the Future programme
in Blackburn with Darwen and is committed to ‘art’ being an ongoing activity
over the life of each school building project. A public art programme will
be developed for each school, working closely with the school, its wider
community and the public. So far, Lead Artists have been appointed for
Pleckgate, Darwen Vale and Witton Park High Schools and New East
Blackburn Learning Community.

High School
Lead Artists Tony Broomhead

school and community engagement
to inform the developing public art
proposals.
Tony Broomhead is based for
one day a week at Pleckgate City
Learning Centre. Amenity Space
aim to build a virtual Pleckgate
Arts Community over the next
few weeks, and has already has
launched a website to display
artworks, photos, radio podcasts,
videos and guided walks etc.

Darwen Vale
High School
Lead Artist Noah Rose has also
completed his initial stage of
idea development and is already
midway through both his school and
community engagement. This is now
being used to develop a number of
public art strands including proposals
for an installed ‘museum of memory’
located within the school entrance
areas and online. He is also exploring
the idea of interactive lighting that is
responsive to energy consumptions
within the new school.
