Improved Medication and Narcotic Control in the Operating Room

Anesthesia-Rx™ is an automated anesthesia cart that monitors and controls the

dispensing of medications, narcotics and supplies during surgical procedures. The
workflow is specifically designed for surgical areas and ensures that anesthesia
providers have access to the medications and narcotics they need, when they need
them.

Automation Decision Support
The optional Automation Decision
Support solution is an analytics tool
designed to help administrators improve
productivity and performance. This
tool combines and organizes data from
Anesthesia-Rx and other McKesson
automation solutions into visually rich
dashboards with the capability to drill
down to different levels of detail.
Automation Decision Support enables
you to look at different dispensing
patterns from Anesthesia-Rx to identify
potential drug diversion issues. To
improve inventory management,
Automation Decision Support provides
an overview of medication usage,
including waste transactions and
restocked medications.
Anesthesia-Rx is designed to match the operating room workflow while meeting the
medication management needs of pharmacy.
This advanced solution uses a completely touch-screen driven medication dispensing
process. The Virtual Pocket™ display technology provides a visual roadmap for users,
eliminating the need to type and search for medications.
One of the main benefits of Anesthesia-Rx is improved communication between
the surgical areas and the pharmacy. All dispensing activities, including wastes
and returns, are transmitted in real time via the Connect-Rx® software platform.
Other McKesson products, such as AcuDose-Rx® medication dispensing cabinets,
run on Connect-Rx®, providing you with the same formulary, filling, and inventory
management capabilities.
Workflow
Anesthesia-Rx workflow is specifically designed for rapid medication selection and
dispensing before and during surgical procedures. With only two touches, anesthesia
providers have quick access the their medications and narcotics.
To quickly and safely dispense medications and narcotics, anesthesia providers:
• Securely log on with a user name and password
• Unlock the cart (the cart will not lock at any time during the case)
• Select a patient
• Open the appropriate drawer
• Touch the medication name on the screen
• Remove the medication from the pocket
• Touch the screen to confirm quantity dispensed

Anesthesia-Rx Drawer Options

Anesthesia-Rx can be configured with
a variety of drawers to fit your unique
dispensing needs. There are two drawer
types available—High Capacity Drawers
with locked pockets and Open Matrix
Drawers.
High Capacity Drawers
The standard Anesthesia-Rx cart is
equipped with one High Capacity
Drawer with locking pockets, but it can
be configured with up to four of these
drawers. Additionally, the pockets within
the drawers are configurable by row.
The maximum number of pockets that fit
in one drawer is 20. The locked pocket
types include:
Open Matrix Drawers
There are three sizes of Open Matrix
Drawers available, and each drawer
comes with horizontal pocket dividers,
allowing you to make the pockets the
size you need. Additional dividers can
also be ordered. The smallest pocket
size is 3.25” W x 2.75” L and can
be increased in increments of those
dimensions.
