“I Wish” May 21, 2011
“I Wish,” a modern day Wizard of Oz,
is presented at the State Theatre in down-
town Oroville with one public perfor-
mance on Saturday, May 21st at 2 p.m. A
little girl, Margo, makes a wish that her
carousel horse comes to life. And it does as
a live miniature horse, Little Bit, appears
on stage to transport Margo into the magi-
cal land of the DreamKeeper. Come and
meet Margo, Dream Keeper, the Hip Hop
Germs, Runny Nose, the Blue Green Pus
Germ and a host of other zany characters
in this original fantasy/musical.
Three other performances are closed
and showing only to 1,400 school chil-
dren who are being bused to see this play,
which teaches healthy habits wrapped in
the magical belief that carousel horses can
come to life.

Symphony’s performances on May 14 in
Chico and May 15 in Redding will not be-
gin with a short traditional opener, or over-
ture. “The Rachmaninoff itself begins as
you expect an overture to begin,” Pickett
said, “with a big melody that sweeps over
the audience. The whole concerto, which
has three movements that are each the
same length, is a perfectly balanced blend
of melody, emotion and skilled construc-
tion.”
Tutunov, the soloist, was born and
raised in Belarus, part of the former So-
viet Union. He has recorded with the Rus-
sian Philharmonic and the Czech National
Symphony Orchestra. The pianist is now
in residence at Southern Oregon Univer-
sity in Ashland.
At the May concerts, the Symphony
will also unveil plans to the public for the
2011-12 season, to begin in September.
Audience members who have current sea-
son tickets have received an offer to re-
new their seats already, while new season
ticket-buyers may place orders at the May
concerts for the seats they wish to have in
2011-12.
Kyle Wiley Pickett, asked what helped

Regional Medical Center sponsors the
Redding concerts.

 Friday Night Concerts Begin May 20, 2011
Get ready for another rockin’ summer
as Downtown Chico prepares to kick off
its 34th Annual Friday Night Concert se-
ries Friday May, 20th. Located in the spec-
tacular City Plaza, this free Chico tradition
is held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. weekly through
September 9th. The party begins opening
night, with a live performance from The
Alternators ft. Brass Connection and Al-
pine.
Friday Night Concert is a good way to
get the ball rolling for a great weekend!
Known as “Chico’s best place to hear free,
live music,” the Friday Night Concerts
feature a variety of local talent that in-
cludes music genres ranging from Blues to
Reggae and from Latin to classic Rock and
Roll. The event attracts large crowds of all
ages from Chico and surrounding areas.
Concert goers are encouraged to grab
dinner to-go at one of the local downtown
restaurants, bring a picnic or enjoy a bite
from one of the on-site vendors while en-
joying great live music. Please, no glass
containers, alcohol, or pets allowed in the
park and remember City Plaza is a smoke
free venue.
From June 3rd - August 26th, children
will once again have the opportunity to
participate and be creative at “Art in the
Park.” This amazing event is sponsored by
the Chico Art Center and gives children
the chance to create art projects that in-
clude clay pottery on the wheel, mosaics,
and watercolors among others.
