U.K. Nationwide and Regional Outlook
HIGHLIGHTS
• UK sees incremental decrease in job vacancies. “The UK’s manufacturing sector experienced
a seven-month low in April,” said Gautam Godhwani, CEO of SimplyHired.com. “This slowdown,
combined with the Easter and Royal Wedding holidays, contributed to a 1.5% decrease in job
vacancies across the country.”

• Swansea, Belfast, Aberdeen experience high job growth. The top cities for job creation in
April were all outside of England, with Swansea showing the highest rate of job growth at 18.9%.
Belfast, at 16.2% growth, and Aberdeen, at 14.5% growth, followed closely behind.

• Brighton job vacancies drop more than 30%. Despite Britain’s early summer and record high
temperatures during the month of April, summer hot spot Brighton did not see a corresponding
increase in seasonal jobs. The city saw the largest decrease in job vacancies at 31.2%.
