Aircraft Arrival Procedure


1. Purpose

1.1 This procedure describes the minimum required tasks to be taken up by


maintenance staff during the arrival of QTR/Customer aircraft.

1.2 This procedure is applicable to all aircraft types and has been introduced to
standardise aircraft arrival procedures and practices at DOHA.

1.3 Where a customer has specific requirement, then that requirement must be
followed.

2. Scope and Responsibility

2.1 It is the responsibility of all maintenance staff to ensure that this procedure is
followed at all times during arrival of aircraft.

3. Procedure

3.1 General

3.1.1 Refer to the “Daily Aircraft Allocation/Aircraft Movement Sheets” for


aircraft arrival times.

3.1.2 At least one (1) hour prior to the scheduled aircraft arrival time, check with
Maintenance Control Centre (MCC) and/or Flight Operations Dispatch for
latest and up-to-date aircraft arrival timings.

3.1.3 Check with airport ground control and tower for allocated parking area
and/or stand number.

3.1.4 Wait for arriving aircraft 10 minutes prior to the actual ETA at the allocated
stand/parking location, and perform ramp visual inspection during this 10
minutes period.

3.1.5 Ensure all necessary equipment to fulfil the technical functions are
prepared and ready at the designated parking bay prior to aircraft arrival,
i.e.:

- Serviceable headset.
- Serviceable flashlight.
- Tool box.
- Engine oils.
- etc.

3.2.1 All safety precautions are to be observed. All ground maintenance staff
are to wear ear protectors to prevent damage to hearing. All personnel to
keep safe distance from an arriving aircraft.

3.3 Arrival and Positioning of aircraft

3.3.1 GPU, ACU, ASU are positioned as required. This information is to be


sought from MCC prior to aircraft arrival.

3.3.2 The Electronic Bay Parking shall ensure that the aircraft is brought-in
along a straight path, approximately 10 meters, before coming to a
complete stop.

CAUTION: FAILURE TO STRAIGHTEN THE LANDING GEAR TRUCKS


BEFORE PARKING WILL RESULT IN RESIDUAL TORSIONAL
LOADS IN THE TRUCK AND SHOCK STRUT AND CAUSE
LEAKAGE THROUGH SHOCK STRUT SEALS.

3.3.3 Once the aircraft has stopped, chocks are to be positioned as required.

3.3.4 Connect headset and call flight deck: “Ground to Cockpit: Chocks in
position”.

3.3.5 If the aircraft is terminating at DOHA, i.e. ground time in excess of four (4)
hours, then connect GPU and ACU if required.

3.3.6 Landing gear lock pins are to be installed in accordance with the
QTR/Customer Line Maintenance Procedures Manual.

CAUTION: ALL GEAR LOCKS MUST HAVE RED STREAMERS


ATTACHED.

3.3.7 Engine arrival oil should be checked and recorded in the aircraft technical
log.

3.3.8 De-brief the flight deck crew on any aircraft system or equipment
malfunction.

3.3.9 All aircraft maintenance inspections and checks shall be carried out by
suitably qualified staff in accordance with maintenance task sheets.

3.3.10 Install plugs and covers. If an aircraft is to be left outdoors unattended for
more than 48 hours or if severe weather conditions exists or are expected
(high winds, sand storms, rain, hail, etc.), it may be necessary to install
and secure plugs and covers on all scoops and inlets on airframe and
powerplant.

3.3.11 Close entrance doors, galley service doors, emergency exits, and cargo
doors when aircraft is left unattended to minimise damage should interior
fuselage fire occur and to comply with airport security requirements.

3.4 Arrival with unserviceable APU

3.4.1 Information of an unserviceable APU will be given by the MCC at DOHA,


then full ground support shall be available at arrival.

3.4.2 After the chocks are positioned, the following sequence will be followed:

1. Connect GPU – inform crew.

2. If required, pneumatic start cart running and ready to power the


pneumatic duct in event of a jet pipe fire, but not connected to the
aircraft.

3. Maintain crew contact until engines are shutdown.
