Instructing Children

Leader: Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the


LORD is one!

Congregation: You shall love the LORD your God


with all your heart and with all your soul and with all
your might.

Leader: These words, which I am commanding you


today, shall be on your heart.

Congregation: You shall teach them diligently to


your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in
your house and when you walk by the way and
when you lie down and when you rise up.

Leader: You shall bind them as a sign on your hand


and they shall be as frontals on your forehead.

All: You shall write them on the doorposts of your


house and on your gates.

Children Are a Heritage
Response Reading
Based on Psalm 127:3-5

Leader: Behold, children are a heritage from the


Lord, the fruit of the womb - a reward.

Congregation: Blessed is the man who is faithful to


take this responsibility seriously.

Leader: Arrows are in the hand of a warrior, so are


the children of one's youth.

Congregation: May the direction we lead our


children be intentional and prayerful.

Leader: Happy, blessed, and fortunate is the man


whose quiver is filled with them!

Congregation: Give us wisdom in our time of


planning our course of action based upon God’s
Word.
Leader: They will not be put to shame when they
speak with their adversaries in gatherings at the
city's gate.

All: Blessed is the man who is a father to all


children bringing honor to their mother in the home.

Fathers Using Correction
Response Reading
Based on Proverbs 17:27; 23:14; 23:22; Ephesians 6:4
Leader: He who has knowledge spares his words,
and a man of understanding has a cool spirit.

Congregation: The tongue is a small member who


can do the greatest damage – so fathers beware of
your expression of words.

Leader: Fathers, do not irritate and provoke your


children to anger do not exasperate them to
resentment, but rear them tenderly in the training
and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the
Lord.

Congregation: The father who is calm and can stay


composed will maintain respect of his children as he
corrects them.

Leader: Don't fail to correct your children. You


won't kill them by being firm, and it may even save
their lives.
Congregation: Use acceptable actions when
correcting a child and quickly make amends when
you are wrong.

Leader: Hearken unto thy father that begat thee,


and despise not thy mother when she is old.

All: Remember the acceptable and good will of God


and honor all men - fathers, brothers, sons, uncles,
and grandfathers and treat them with honor, dignity
and respect.

Building Character
Response Reading

Based on Proverbs 3:11-12

Leader: My son, do not hate the Lord's training.

Congregation: God is working on each one of us to build our character


for a special purpose.

Leader: Do not object when He corrects you.

Congregation: Corrections is uncomfortable and reveals things that we


do not like to see.

Leader: The Lord trains those He loves.

Congregation: God loves us very much and desires that we show that
love toward those of whom we are responsible.
Leader: He is like a father who trains the son he is pleased with.”

All: Help us to learn and grow from our life’s experience in order to be able
to teach others and prepare them for Your service.

Inform Your Children

Leader: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and
only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have
eternal life. (John 3:16)
