Seeking Teaching Artist Mentors and Program Manager for 2011-2012

ArtsXChange, a new arts education initiative of the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, is seeking highly
qualified teaching artist mentors and a program manager to support and manage teams of Chicago Public School
pre-service teachers in facilitating arts learning in the classroom. Utilizing a unique blend of aesthetic education
methodology, arts integration concepts, and art (theatre, music, dance, and visual art) education, ArtsXChange will
consist of in-depth training in the arts and teaching of the arts to ensure marked and significant change in teaching
practice.

ArtsXChange Program Features and Key Components

In-depth training in the arts and teaching of the arts to ensure change in teaching practice is at the center of
ArtsXChange. Working with pre-service teachers in the Academy of Urban School Leadership (AUSL) Urban
Teacher Residency Program, ArtsXChange will work with approximately 20 teachers from three AUSL training
schools: Tarkington Academy, Chicago Academy, and National Teachers Academy. Teachers will be grouped and
paired with a teaching artist mentor (TAM) in one specific discipline to design arts units, help teach the art form in
the classroom (co-teacher arts lessons throughout the mentorship), and assess students at formative and
summative points in the process.

As primary instructors of the program, TAMs will:

• Work throughout the 2011-2012 school year

• Participate in multiple visits to the school where they will interact, observe, co-teach, and instruct teacher
participants
• Guide teachers in developing their own lesson plans and units based on the ArtsXChange framework
• Participate and contribute to the program in planning meetings with the Auditorium and teachers/school

As primary organizer of the program, the Program Manger will:

• Provide overall leadership, curriculum guidance, organizational support and coordination

• Manage the development, community relations and overall vitality of the program
• Provide consistent and organized support to manage TAM schedules and multiple program activities to
keep teacher participants and TAMs productive and on-task.

ArtsXChange Objectives
Though TAMs, Program Manager and ATRU staff will work collaboratively on implementing programmatic goals,
we are looking for people who have the ability to support ArtsXChange aims:

• Goal 1: Increase teacher knowledge in arts foundations and ArtsXChange concepts.

• Goal 2: Increase teacher capacity and performance in the planning, teaching, and assessing of arts
programs.
• Goal 3: Increase student knowledge in standards-based arts and ArtsXChange concepts.
• Goal 4: Increase teacher confidence and experience incorporating the arts into their classroom.
