M. Chem. Engg. Research Research Supervisor: Prof. B.N.THORAT

Research Topic: “Kinetic and Hydrodynamic study of agitated fluidized bed dryer
(AFBD)”at M/s Ganson Ltd. Thane.
Fluidization quality of the Group C (fine and ultra fine particles) as well as Group D
(large particles) is comparatively poor as result formation of channeling and particle
agglomerates. One way of improving the fluidization quality of fine particles is to adopt
agitating devices. By agitating the bed of particles, a homogeneous fluidizing bed of fine
particles is formed without any channeling or big bubbles. In Kinetic study involves effect of
operating parameters such as agitation speed, material loading, inlet air velocity and
temperature with Straight Blade Agitator, Pitch blade and Helical ribbon type agitator on
drying curve in AFBD. Hydrodynamic study contains effect of material loading, agitation
speed and % of free area of distribution plates on pressure drop and effect of agitation and
material loading on Residence Time Distribution (RTD) of AFBD.
Work on project
 Purification, filtration and drying of low density silica powder from phosphate fertilizer
industries & fine silica powder characteristics.
 Modeling of agitated fluidized bed drying (AFBD) characteristics for fine calcium
carbonate powder.

Title: “Reaction selectivity on Nanoparticle system”.

Selectivity towards the target product can be changed in wide range by varying
nanoparticle composition involve metal ratio and pore size of support also depends upon types
of reaction and reaction condition.

Bachelors Supervisor: Prof. T.B.CHAHADE

Dissertation Topic
Title: “Manufacture of naphthalene”
This project deals with the manufacture of 45000 TPA of naphthalene from petroleum
fractions at high temperature and pressure in the presence of hydrogen. Feed material for
naphthalene product is bottom product of catalytic heavy reformate of petroleum industry
which contain 50-60% mono, di, tri-methylnaphthalene. The dealkylated product is quenched
as it leaves to the reactor and sent to a series of distillation column. The liquid product is
distilled to separate naphthalene, gasoline and fuel oil. The naphthalene produced is usually
better 99% pure and low in sulfur content. This process is continuous.
Seminar
“Vacuum system created by Ejector”
Steam ejectors are designed to convert the pressure energy of a motivating fluid to
velocity energy of entrain suction fluid and then to recompress the mixed fluids by converting
velocity energy back into pressure energy .This is based on theory that a properly designed
nozzle followed by throat or ventury .
