PBL submission to JISC plagiarism detection service (Year 1 2008-9)

You are required to submit an electronic version of your PBL to the plagiarism detection service, Turnitin. If
you do not do so you will receive zero for the PBL writeup.

You will be required to submit two versions of your PBL write-up.

1. Complete printed version to be submitted as directed to your PBL tutor.


2. Text only version to be submitted electronically. This should consist of the text only (remove any
images) also in this version do not include the scenario just your own text.

Signing up to the system

In order to submit the electronic version you need to sign up to the JISC service the first time you use it. You
can do this in advance of the due date.

You will shortly receive an email from the JISC system giving you a temporary password.
In your browser go to:

www.submit.ac.uk

Click User Login

Your user name is your college email address (ha….)


Do not change this. You must use your college email address for this service.
If you wish to have your emails redirected to another email address you can do this through the college email
system.

Your password is in the email, change it the first time you logon.
Suggestion: Use the same one as you use for your college computer services.
Choose your own password and secret question.

To submit your essay

(if you are not already logged in from above)


Logon by going to

www.submit.ac.uk

click on the user login button and enter your email address and password

When you are logged in.


Enter the class by clicking on the class name which for this assignment is MBBS Year 1 2009-10
Click on the submit icon and upload your essay as per the instructions.

You may submit more than once if you decide to make corrections but please do not submit more copies
than is absolutely necessary.

The system will check your essay against a database which contains both previously submitted essays and a
wide range of internet sources. Trivial similarities between your essay and other material will be ignored
however significant similarities will be investigated and students found to have plagiarised their submitted
work will be referred to school and college authorities as per the school’s plagiarism policy. Under this policy
if you have been found guilty of plagiarism, for a first offence you will receive zero for the piece of work and
a note on your personal file. If you are subsequently found guilty again you will be referred to the School
disciplinary body.
