Exotom-150
Powerful, high-capacity cut-off
machine, designed for the production
environment
High cutting power and a spacious and
accessible cutting chamber makes the
automatic Exotom-150 ideal for cutting
large items or large volume production.
The unique ExciCut feature means fast
and cold cutting, less wear on the cut-
off wheel and plane, deformation-free
specimen surfaces. Cuts up to ø160 mm
/ 6.3". Exceptionally easy to operate, two
simple controls put the operator in full
charge of the cutting action.
Axitom
A fully automatic cut-off machine,
designed for maximum user-
friendliness
With its very large cutting table and
easy to use controls, Axitom is ideal
for production environments. The spa-
cious cutting chamber is equipped with
two automatic cutting tables and the
machine can cut up to ø125 mm / 4.9"
samples. The x-table is for serial cutting
of parallel sections, whereas the y-table
is used for cutting of extra deep work-
pieces.

Discotom-6/-60/-65
Versatile automatic and manual cut-off
machine in one
A powerful machine for a wide range
of applications. Discotom-60/-65 suc-
cessfully combines the newest cutting
technologies with unprecedented flex-
ibility and user friendliness. On the
Discotom-65, the spindle speed ranges
from 1000-3000 rpm and makes it pos-
sible for customers dealing with many
different materials to use one single
wheel. Cuts up to ø105 mm / 4.1" .
Discotom-6 has a very strong motor
and high cutting capacity. Cuts up to
ø80 mm / 3.1".
Unique features
ExciCut
For faster cutting or cutting of harder
materials without heat damage
(Axitom, Exotom-150)
- Easy and faster cutting of even the
hardest materials.
- Excellent access for coolant in the
cutting area.
- Reduced risk of damage to sample and
motor overheating.
ExciCut uses an oscillating movement of
the cut-off wheel to reduce the contact
area between the cut-off wheel and the
workpiece. This enables cutting of work-
pieces in very hard materials and in
very large sizes. At the same time, it is
possible to use harder cut-off wheels,
which have a longer lifetime, thus reduc-
ing costs. The ExciCut technology was
first developed by Struers more than a
decade ago.
AxioCut
For cutting of extra deep workpieces
(Axitom, Exotom-150)
Two unique, pre-programmed cutting
modes of cutting capacity: AxioCut
Sweep (only Exotom-150) for fast cut-
ting and optimum wheel economy, and
AxioCut Step for very fast cutting.
For the sectioning of larger workpieces,
Struers have devised two new cutting
methods, available in the AxioCut mod-
ule. By adding the module, the cut-off
machine is given extra 150 mm’s of
cutting capacity (depth).
MultiCut
For automatic serial cutting of
parallel sections
(Axitom)
The automatic x-table offers several
possibilities. A total of 4 MultiCut modes
are available on our Axitom machines
equipped with the automatic x-table.
MultiCut-1 is the standard cutting mode
where slices of equal thickness can be
programmed. Additionally the
thickness of the cut-off wheel is
saved so no calculations are neces-
sary. Simply enter the thickness and the
number of slices and press “Start”.
MultiCut-2 is the same as above, apart
from the possibility of program-
ming slices of different thickness.
MultiCut-3. Instead of programming the
thickness of a slice, a certain position is
programmed. This is used for the
cutting of manufactured items
that have to be examined in certain fixed
positions.
AxioCutSweep MultiCut-4 is the most intuitive and
user-friendly MultiCut mode. Simply
clamp the workpiece on the
cutting table, use the joystick to
position the workpiece correctly and
press “Enter” to record the cutting posi-
tion. Continue doing so for the other
positions as well. Then simply press
“Start” and all cuts are carried out in
their correct succession.

Cutting of workpieces with uneven
cross section or composition, poses
a great challenge to the operator. The
risk of damage to the workpiece or cut-
off wheel is high. Bearing this in mind,
Struers has developed the OptiFeed
principle, based on a preset maximum
force limit. As the contact area (between
workpiece and cut-off wheel) is getting
larger, the force increases to maintain
the feed speed. If the preset force limit
is reached, the feed speed is automati-
cally reduced to avoid damage. When
the cut-off wheel has passed the centre
of the workpiece, the contact area is
getting smaller again, and with it the
resulting force. In turn, the feed speed
is automatically increased to the preset
maximum.

AxioWash
Easy cleaning
Our experience shows that mainte-
nance and cleaning are two of the most
difficult issues for the users of our
equipment. We therefore have a built-in
automatic cleaning function into our
cutting machines Axitom and Exotom-
150. This pioneering cleaning function is
called AxioWash (pat. pend.). After the
automatic cleaning is finished the user
only has to clean the horizontal surfaces
inside the chamber and the machine is
ready for the following day.

Cooling System
Advanced system for the supply
of cooling water
Struers Cooling System is a unique,
modular system for the supply of cool-
ing water on cut-off machines.
With the automatic band filter unit all
debris is automatically collected and
disposed of. The automatic band filter
can be equipped with additional sensors
to monitor flow, level and temperature
of the cooling water and also with a
magnetic filter to collect all magnetic
particles that are too fine to be collected
by the band filter. Even an UV filter
for cleaning the water from algae and
bacteria is available. All these measures
extend the possible lifetime of the cool-
ing water.

Cut-off wheels
Covering the entire
materialographic spectrum
Struers cut-off wheels are specially de-
veloped for materialographic specimen
preparation. We have a complete prod-
uct programme covering all materials
and materialographic applications and
offer superior preparation quality, faster
results and better cost-efficiency.
Intelligent cut-off wheels
With cut-off wheels from Struers the
abrasive density varies across the wheel
radius – with increasing density towards
the centre of the wheel. This means that
the cutting performance of the wheel
remains constant even as it wears to a
smaller diameter.
3D wheels*
Cut-off wheels with an hexagonal
surface pattern are an addition to our
3D wheels cooling of the workpiece is
much more efficient meaning less heat
damage. In addition, the 3D surface
means less cutting debris and easier
cleaning of the equipment.
