Laserfiche WebLink 8.0
Laserfiche WebLink 8.0 is a user-friendly public portal site that provides
Internet access to documents. It contains many new features that help
administrators configure their sites so users can find what they are looking
for. This paper describes the new features in WebLink 8.0.
3
WebLink 8 Designer
The WebLink 8 Designer gives you the ability to fully customize your
WebLink site without editing any code. You can customize the following.
Theme
You can modify the colors and images of your WebLink site. Colors can be
modified so every page and its elements look the same, or you can get more
specific and configure different pages and elements to display different colors.
Welcome Page
WebLink 8 is built as a Web portal to be more accessible to external users who
might be unfamiliar with Laserfiche or the organization's naming conventions
and filing methodologies. Instead of being directed to a repository’s Folder
Browser, users are directed to a new Welcome Page (set up by an
4
administrator) that has an emphasis on searching and links (bookmarks) to
help users find what they are looking for.
Bookmarks
Bookmarks are links to specific documents, folders, search forms, or external
URLs that can be added to the Welcome Page.
5
Search Form Designer /Search Forms
Customized searches are created in the new Search Form designer and can be
added to the Welcome Page.
Navigation Links
There are three links you can add to the WebLink site (below the WebLink
Logo) to help users navigate through WebLink. You can add a Home link that
links to the Welcome Page, a Browse link that takes you to last state of the
Folder Browser, and/or a Search link that opens the Search Pane.
6
Document Viewer
You can configure the default cursor mode, default zoom level, and whether
or not you want to display the breadcrumb in the Document Viewer. The
breadcrumb contains links to each previous folder you navigated through to
get to your current location, and it is hidden by default. To display the
breadcrumb, select Show Breadcrumb under the Document Viewer tab.
7
Search Results
You can configure how users view search results. Specifically, you can
organize which components are displayed, the order in which the
components will be listed, and specific component properties (e.g.,
display/hide blank fields, display each field on a different line, etc.).
Search Options
You can configure the Quick Search on the Welcome Page and in the Folder
Browser to search text, entry names, fields, annotations, or a combination of
these. In addition, you can enable fuzzy search options for text searches and
specify the number of fields a user must input when performing a template
search.
8
Document Viewer
The Document Viewer has been enhanced with the following new features.
9
Tiling
The Image Pane now supports tiling. This enables the document to load faster
and it allows the user to see parts of the document before it is fully loaded.
Continuous Scrolling
Your mouse wheel can be used to continuously scroll through document
pages and thumbnails.
Laserfiche 8 Annotations
Laserfiche 8 annotations can be viewed on the image in the Image Pane. You
also have the option to hide/display annotations that have been applied to a
document.
E-mail
You can send e-mail messages containing a link to a document.
Toolbar
A variety of new toolbar buttons have been added:
• Fit Width: See the width of the document fitted to the width of the
Image Pane.
• Fit Page: See the entire page in the Image Pane.
• E-mail: Send an e-mail message containing a link to the currently open
document (this button will not be available if you don’t have the e-mail
plug-in or if your e-mail settings have not been configured).
• Pan Mode: Use the cursor to click and drag the image in the desired
direction. You can also use your mouse scroll wheel to move through
the document.
• Zoom Mode: Use your mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out of the
image.
RSS Feeds
WebLink 8 generates an RSS feed for specific folders and search results. For
example, if you subscribe to a specific folder's RSS feed, when a document is
added to or deleted from that folder, you will see that change when you view
10
your RSS Reader. When a new entry is included or excluded in/from a search
result, it will also be indicated in your RSS reader.
Quick Search
The Quick Search is
located on the Welcome Page, in the Folder Browser, and on the classic
Search Page (Search.aspx). It can be configured to search text, entry names,
fields, annotation, or a combination of these. Administrators can choose to
display or hide the Quick Search on the Welcome Page.
11
WebLink Mobile View
You can view a simplified version of the Document Viewer on your mobile
device. WebLink will detect when you are using a mobile browser, and
automatically redirect you to the mobile view. Only the Document Viewer
(docviewm.aspx) has a simplified view, all the other pages are the same.
Entry Locks
WebLink no longer locks a document when it is open.
Default Columns
Displayed browse columns can be configured by each user under
MyWebLink. Once configured, these columns are stored in the browser’s
cookies. Any user using that same browser will see the browse columns
configured under the MyWebLink settings for that particular browser. If the
browser’s cookies are cleared, the default columns displayed will be those in
the specific user’s attributes.
12
Language Options
When changing your Web browser’s language to Arabic, you will see an
additional Language Options node on the MyWebLink page. This node
enables you to configure how your dates are displayed. If you choose Use
Hijri calendar, all the date fields (Metadata, Browse columns, Search
columns, Entry Properties, etc.) will be displayed in Hijri format. If you
choose Use Gregorian calendar, all the date fields will be displayed in
Gregorian format.
WebLink 8 Reporting
WebLink 8 Reporting is a Web-analytics package installed with WebLink 8.
Administrators can monitor specific actions being performed in a repository
and use this information to improve the customization of WebLink. Actions
that can be monitored include sessions, RSS information, searches, and
thumbnail navigation.
About Box
A new About box has been added that shows additional information about
your version of WebLink.
