STAFF SELECTION COMMISSION (SSC)


Combined Graduate Level (Tier-I) Examination-2010

Staff Selection Commission will hold on 16/05/2010, an open competitive examination for recruitment to the following
posts in various Ministries/Departments by selecting/screening the candidates for the Main Examination.
The Combined Graduate Level (Tier-II) Examination-2010 is likely to be held ion 31/07/2010 and 01/08/2010.
Inspectors of Income Tax / Inspector (Central Excise) / Inspector (Preventive Officer) / Inspector (Examiner) in Custom
Houses (Group B Non-Gazetted) in the pay scale of Rs.9300-34800 Grade Pay Rs.4600/-

Assistants (CSS)
pay scale : Rs.9300-34800 Grade Pay Rs.4600/-

Assistants in other Central Government Ministries/ Departments/ CVC etc


pay scale : Rs.9300-34800 Grade Pay Rs.4200/-

Inspector of Posts (Group B Non-Gazetted)

Age Limit:
(i) 18-27 years as on 02/03/2010 for Inspector of Income Tax/ Inspector (Central Excise)/ Inspector (Preventive Officer)/
Inspector (Examiner)/ Inspector of Posts / Ass.. Enforcement Officer and Divisional Accountants / Auditors /UDCs/ Tax
Assistants
(ii) 20 to 27 years as on 02/03/2010 for posts of Assistants and Sub-inspectors in CBI.
(iii) 26 years for Statistical Investigators Gr.II
(iv) 20-25 years as on 02/30/2010 for Sub Inspectors (Ex) in Central Police Orgnisations.
(v)Usual age relaxation to SC/ST/OBC/PH/ExS etc. as per Govt. orders.)

Educational Qualification:
Graduation in any discipline from any recognised Uniersity as on 02/03/2010. (ii) Statistics/ Mathematics / Economics /
Commerce subjects in Graduation for the post of Statistical Investigator Gr.II

Fee: Rs. 100/-. No fee for SC/ST/PH/Women and Ex-Serviceman. Fee will be paid only in the form of "Central
Recruitment Fee Stamps (CRFS)" These stamps are available at the counter of all Departmental Post Offices of the
country.

Scheme of Exam : Preliminary (Tier-1) (Written) Examination (Objective Type) on 16/05/2010.

Closing Date: Last date for filling of the application is 02/03/2010 (5PM) (09/03/2010 for the candidates of far-flung
areas)

SYLLABUS
TIER-I OF THE EXAMINATION :
A. General Intelligence & Reasoning :
It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. This component may include questions on analogies,
similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision
making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural
classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic
reasoning etc.

B. General Awareness :
Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidates general awareness of the environment around him
and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of
every day observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will
also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to sports, History, Culture,
Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity, Indian Constitution, scientific Research etc. These Questions will be such
that they do not require a special study of any discipline.

C. Numerical Aptitude :
The questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. The
scope of the test will be the computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions and relationships between numbers. It
will test sense of order among numbers, ability to translate from one name to another, sense or order of magnitude,
estimation or prediction of the outcome of computation, selection of an appropriate operation for the solution of real life
problems and knowledge of alternative computation procedures to find answers. The questions would also be based on
arithmetical concepts and relationship between numbers and not on complicated arithmetical computation(The standard
of the questions will be of 10+2 level).

D. English Comprehension :
Candidates’ ability to understand correct English, his basic comprehension and writing ability, etc. would be tested.
MODE OF SELECTION :
After the Tier II Examination and the Interview /Skill test, wherever applicable, the Commission will draw up the All
India Merit List for each Group and, in that order, as many candidates as are found by the Commission to have qualified
in the Examination shall be recommended for appointment for each category of post upto the number of unreserved
vacancies available.
