FOR THE SPANISH SPEAKER

The vowel [re] does not exist in Spanish and may be difficult for you to hear
and produce. Also, you might always pronounce the letter "a" the Spanish
way!

EXAMPLES: If you say [a] instead of [a], hat will sound like hot
If you say Ie] instead of Ia], bad will sound \ike bed
When producing the vowel [re], remember to spread your lips and open your
mouth. But-don't open it too wide or you will find yourself substituting Ia]
(the vowel to be studied in the next chapter) instead! PRACTICE, PRAC-
