eening rooms located in two terminals. All bags from the ticket counters and cu
rb side induction are being rerouted through these rooms. Performed PLC program
ming, startup, and electrical - controls - mechanical troubleshooting.
Under contract to Caterpillar Tractor (Sanford, NC) March and April 2007
Caterpillar was starting up a new product line of Skid steer loaders and multi t
errain loaders. The project engineer who had worked on the power and release co
nveyor system for 10 months was moved to another startup job, so they brought me
in to support the assembly line startup. The PLCs consisted of ControlLogix an
d remote I/O panels on ControlNet with additional SLCs interfacing to the manufa
cturing execution system and to a legacy system. The initial problems were an a
morphous but interactive batch of electrical, mechanical, tolerance, programming
and interface documentation problems. After several return trip postponements,
there remained a few well understood problems and much more accurate documentat
ion.
Under contract to Control Touch Systems (Louisville, KY) March 2005 to October 2
006

artup, test, and troubleshooting. AutoCAD Schematics documentation.
Self employment with company AeroSoft January to March 2004
Working with a company to put together a proposal for upgrading aluminum smelter
s in China and India. I found experts in the Pacific Northwest who had optimize
d their process until the price of power became exorbitant. I incorporated thei
r improvements into a design, selected the hardware, priced it and estimated the
design and programming time. I also estimated what would be necessary to overs
ee the rebuilding and travel time. A typical reduction line consists of about 9
0 cells in series with about 2,000 amps DC current. The efficient operating poi
nt is just on the edge of instability and the primary control measurement is ele
ctrical noise from the process. Designed the SCADA / HMI around the ArchestrA A
pplication Server with SQL based historian, and options for SPC and Intranet dat
a publishing.
Under contract to Waterlink, Barneby Sutcliff (Columbus, Ohio) June 2001 to July
2002

cal stabilizers on the Boeing 777 and now the 787. Provided specifications and
design reviews for vendors' designs. The installation consisted of a 15 foot di
ameter autoclaves and two 27 foot diameter vessels plus a virtual autoclave simu
lator used for development and training. Each one had a Honeywell Process Manag
er that I programmed in CL Code and ran the batching program and the analogs. A
main PLC supplied vacuum functions and communications with vendor supplied PLCs
on each door and two heaters. I wrote the communications handler that communic
ated with all of the PLCs using Honeywell ABC Protocol. It also communicated wi
th the cooling tower and the nitrogen separation equipment.
The original schedule for the new facility called for a 3 year project, however
the team had to have it done in two years and we succeeded. The batching & reci
pe program that I designed has been used as a prototype by another autoclave con
trols vendor.
