WHY DOES FORBIDDEN FRUIT

TASTES SO GOOD??

What is it about the forbidden fruit that makes it so sweet &

tempting?
Is it the adrenaline gush about having something that is not
supposed to be had or is it just there in our genes perhaps
inherited from our first ever known ancestors.

Ever wondered why does a toy in the showroom look so

fascinating but loses its charm once it reaches our home, or
probably during exam times there's this intense urge to watch
the movies being telecast, all of a sudden we feel bound by the
spell of the otherwise dumb & boring idiot box & when mom
shouts from the kitchen ‘PUT THAT TV OFF & STUDY, YOU
HAVE YOUR EXAM TOMMOROW..!!!’ .These words which are
supposed to make us realise that we need to go ahead & study,
does just the opposite of it. As the movie just keeps getting
more & more interesting from there on.

Now looking a bit more deeply in to this issue, we would notice

that this Forbidden fruit syndrome is the base of all evil be it
envy, greed, lust, wrath & probably even despair to some extent.
The reason could probably be cited back to ancient history,
where the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden was the root
cause of the first sin ever committed by mankind. Even today if
we look at the major issues faced by the society like theft,
corruption, & extra marital affairs we would see a common link
connecting them all – The forbidden fruit.
We long for things that we can’t have or don't have. That is
probably the reason why prohibited items are valued more than
the non-prohibited ones. Let’s take an example of the alleged
ban on the celebrations of Valentine’s day in 2009 by Pramod
muthalik of Ram Sena, an Orthodox Hindu group based in
Manglore. Mr Muthalik threatened to marry off any couples
seen together on Valentines day. Instead of getting scared &
staying at home, people of all age groups came together to
celebrate Valentines day like India is never seen before. It was
followed by a strong but peaceful protest in the form of the
Pink Chaddi Campaign, where in pink underwear's where send to
Mr Muthalik's Office on the valentines day. It's the first time
in India when people really realised the importance of
Valentines day, which other wise used to be just like any other
day. But since there was a ban & people knew they are not
allowed to celebrate it , they where more adamant to go ahead
& celebrate it on a a larger scale.
There was a sudden sense of loss that crept in to people’s mind;
something that they used to do all these years is suddenly
banned. It was tough for people to take that & that's probably
the reason why everyone turned out in mass numbers to show
their protest against what was supposedly forbidden.

Even after being on earth- one of the most beautiful planets in

our galaxy, men always looked up at the stars & moon in the sky
- admiring its beauty bountifully. Over the years men wondered
how the moon really looked like, what is it made of & what is in
it. His imagination & curiosity drove him crazy. Moon so far, so
beautiful & so much out of our reach but yet man dreamed of
reaching the moon. The relentless fascination & determination
of man to reach the moon - which was more than a million miles
apart finally succeeded on July 20, 1969 when Neil Armstrong
became the first man to step on the moon.
Despite the fact that moon was just made up of rocks &
creators, man was still fascinated by the idea of going to the
moon more than any other place on earth. It's not really the
beauty but the un-reachability factor that makes the thought
of reaching the moon so exhilarating.
But man wasn't satisfied with moon alone, he wanted to explore
more. Now he wanted to reach the other planets, moons &
farther galaxies. The Quest of the unreachable will always keep
the mankind going & moving more & more towards the path of
development & advancement in technology.

The discussion about the forbidden fruit would be incomplete

without the mention of the greatest temptation faced by
mankind- the desire for one another. Over the years, society
has evolved. Polygyny & polyandry is become extinct but the
human desire hasn't. We still desire for what we can't have,
most of the unmarried women live out their fantasy with
married men & vice versa. Often an affair with one’s boss,
neighbour, ex- flame who is married or a total stranger can be
very intriguing but the consequences are equally devastating. A
man is responsible for his own actions - the forbidden fruit is
easy to consume but difficult to digest.
Well, now when i look out of the window it's pretty & cold but i
don't know why my heart hopes for rain..& tomorrow when it
rains i would probably wish for sunshine. May be i am just being
human & after all the greatest pleasure for the human mind lies
in desiring what is ‘Forbidden ’.
