PROPOSAL BASIS - SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT -

Sewage Generation per day is taken as 225 m3/day. Design of the plant is sized for 225m3/day with
20 hrs of operation and operating flow rate of 11.25 m3/hr. Peak flow considered is 33.75m3/hr.

Eventually the collection sump shall have the holding time calculated on the basis of the peak flow
with the downstream unit operations would be basing on the average flow rate only.

PROPOSED METHODOLOGY – SYSTEM DESIGN ADOPTION

THE PROPOSED METHODOLOGY of treatment is a conventional activated sludge process with a

combination of anaerobic and aerobic systems.

 The effluent generated at different sources of sewage generation shall be routed to a common collection
cum equivalisation sump with front end screen chambers for removal of grit / solids. The solid
substances trapped in the screen and grit chamber shall be periodically removed.
 The Effluent from the collection shall be pumped to an UASB reactor for anaerobic digestion of sewage
especially the solids attributing higher organic pollutant loads.
 The UASB shall be of followed by an aeration tank acting on attached growth technology. Due to higher
organic loading rate in the proposed aeration scheme the volume of the aeration tank is considerably
reduced than that of the conventional process and also the system can take care of the shock loads.
 Aeration tank over flow will be lead to the secondary settling tank. The settling tank shall be installed
with clarifier mechanism with central driven type so as to ensure phase separation of solids and water.
The separated sludge shall be drained to sludge drying beds.
 A Clarified water tank / treated water sump shall be provided for collection of treated water from the
settling tank , wherein Hypo chlorite dosing is effected for dis-infection and routed through tertiary
filters for further polishing.
 The tertiary treatment shall have a feed pump, Pressure Sand Filter (PSF) and Activated Carbon Filter
(ACF). Water collected in the clarified water tank shall be pumped through the Pressure Sand Filter
(PSF) and Activated Carbon Filter (ACF) for final polishing of the treated water. Filtered water from the
ACF shall be directly utilized for gardening.

ENSYS
A bar screen chamber is to be constructed right at the inlet of the effluent to the collection sump
following with the common conduiting of the various effluent streams identified to get into the bar
screen chamber. The solid particles trapped in the bar screen chamber shall be removed periodically.

Besides for the kitchen waste residue an online grit chamber with oil trap is provided to remove the

03. COLLECTION WELL [CIVIL] -ENSYS

Considering the site inward level and the nature of soil strata around the area, it is proposed to go in
for a collection of well of adequate volume to receive the sewage.

No. of Collection Well - One

MOC - RCC – Circular
Dimension - 6m dia x 3.5 mts effective depth

Tank is sized for 8 hours holding time with an operating flow rate of 11.25 m3 / hr & 3 hours
considering the peak flow rate of 33.75 m3/hr and also considering the inward level of 2.95
mts. It may be noted the consideration of the soil strata and the topography of the site induces
to minimize underground structures.

However considering the holding volume requirements, an additional collection cum equivalisation
tank is considered, whereas the same shall be positioned just above the ground level with regular
pumping of the sewage from the collection well.

No. of Collection Well - One

MOC - RCC – Square
Dimension - 5 x 5 x 3.5 Liquid Depth

With the above consideration an overall retention / holding time of 16 hours for the average flow
rate is maintained.

The tank shall be provided with an air mixing through coarse bubble diffusers with a tapping taken
from the main air blower for effective mixing of the solids with the sewage.

04. SEWAGE TRANSFER PUMPS - ENSYS

There shall be two sets of pumps to pump the sewage from the collection well to collection tank and

in the reactor. Reactor shall be
provided with piping for recirculation
of the reactor of the effluent to ensure
through mixing. For increasing the
organic loading rate aeration tank shall
be provided with random packed fill
media. The media ensures very high
biological degrading performance.
This structure produces a very large,
fully usable surface area for contact
between the biomass, the air and water flowing through it. The fill media serves as a carrying
medium for the biomass and favors a uniform growth of biological slime due to its regular structure.

The tank shall be provided with platforms and ladders with hand rails for inspection and visual
assessment.

The UASB reactor shall have a flare installed on the top for flaring of the bio gas generated out of
the digester. Considering the fact that the gas is not going to be utilized elsewhere in the facility, the
requirement of an additional gas holder is not warranted. The inherent volume available in the
digester top itself would suffice the buffer holding prior to being flared off.
