Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur helps small businesses manage their most important business areas and integrates tightly with
familiar Microsoft products and technologies that they may already use.
Drive innovation
Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur Solution offers a solid platform for ISVs to develop highly innovative
solutions. It provides an extensive, horizontal, and powerful ERP platform that enables you to focus on
the value-added functionality that provides the competitive differentiator for your ISV solution. Why
spend time, money, and effort developing complex business functionality, which is already present in
Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur, when you can focus on creating specialized add-on solutions to
extend your market reach?
There are two main types of add-on solutions; embedded and connecting. Embedded solutions are
fully integrated into the Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur base product. To develop fully embedded
add-on solutions, you need to register with Microsoft, so you can access the internal development
environment and application source code of Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur. Registration also
provides access to tools and functionality that help you to create truly integrated add-on solutions.
Connecting add-on software uses the available programming interface to read and write data to and
from the database. Connecting add-on software does not require registration.
Building an embedded or connecting add-on solution enables you to take advantage of the ongoing
innovation delivered in Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur and its subsequent releases. Integration with
Microsoft technology helps mitigate the risk of your ongoing integration costs, and helps maximize
your overall investment in Microsoft technology. You can focus on your core areas of expertise instead
of repetitive development, which helps you to deliver a higher volume of innovative solutions.
Registering as an ISV
ISVs that want to create embedded add-on solutions for Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur, for
example industry-specific editions of the product, will in most cases require access to the internal
development environment and application source code of the solution. For ISVs to receive this access
as well as a wide variety of other benefits—such as access to in-depth technical documentation—both
the ISV and the add-on solution must register with Microsoft.
Connecting solutions, which use only the available interface technologies for interactions with
Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur, do not require registration, and do not need to fulfill any specific
requirements. However, this also means that ISVs creating connecting solutions will not receive access
to the benefits that registration provides.
Any member of the Microsoft Partner Program (MSPP) at the registered level or higher can become a
registered ISV and develop embedded add-on software for Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur by
following these steps:
Sign the Microsoft Dynamics ISV Developer Registration Agreement (ISV DRA).
This agreement registers you as a Microsoft Dynamics ISV and provides access to PartnerSource—an
internal site for Microsoft Dynamics partners and ISVs that contains a wide variety of information,
documentation, and product downloads. It is important to visit PartnerSource as soon as your access
has been set up, so you can find more detailed information and guidelines regarding the additional
add-on registration process that follows.
Sign the ISV DRA Add-on Addendum for Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur.
This addendum gives you the right to develop embedded add-on solutions for Microsoft Dynamics
Entrepreneur. By signing the ISV DRA Add-on Addendum, you will receive a special development
license key that provides access to the internal development environment and application source code
of Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur.
The two-tier distribution model for Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur can handle hundreds of partners. VADs recruit and support
VARs who are responsible for sales and implementation and customer support and service.
The two-tier model also provides ISVs with a great opportunity to reach a large reseller network
without having the administrative tasks associated with managing a channel. Because VAD expertise
lies in managing channels, their involvement frees you to focus on the areas in which you excel—
developing and maintaining highly competitive solutions. By taking advantage of an already existing
reseller channel, you can reach many customers in a short period of time and ultimately support your
goal of expanding your customer base.
Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur resellers don’t have development rights for the business solution, so
successful ISV add-on solutions must be designed to install without any customization. Embedded
add-on solutions are distributed as fully integrated and packaged solutions—including the base
product and add-on software—that are simple and quick to install and configure. For connecting add-
on solutions, you can work with a reseller by providing an installation and configuration option that
integrates with Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur through the available interface technologies.
Because VADS are the only distributors of the Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur base product, ISVs
selling add-on software sold as a packaged product must enter into an agreement with a VAD and
establish distribution terms; Microsoft is not involved in this relationship. ISVs providing connecting
add-on solutions can sell their own solution through any channel they choose.
10
It is up to you to decide which distribution option works best for you. Both approaches have their
advantages. The right choice depends on the type of add-on solution, the required degree of
integration, the nature of your business, and the size of the installed base you plan to achieve.
Reseller Training
Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur is designed to install and configure easily, without in-depth reseller
training. ISVs should follow the same approach when creating add-on software. Eliminating the need
for reseller training will not only reduce the implementation time but also the ramp-up time needed
for resellers to become familiar with your add-on solution. To produce and sell significant volume,
develop solutions that are well documented and can be set up quickly. For embedded add-on
business solutions, if you integrate the configuration process with the Microsoft Dynamics
Entrepreneur Setup Wizard, you can greatly reduce the implementation time. Also, consider providing
industry-specific, predefined configuration templates and easy to understand implementation guides
to help your customers use the product easily and reduce support calls.
In some cases specific reseller training might be inevitable, and ISVs should try to create scalable
training options. Remote and online courses have proven valuable, and VADs are often conducting
training classes with which you could potentially integrate your training.
Build Centers
In some regions, ISVs can take advantage of special development services provided by skilled
Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur partners or VADs. These build centers can help you to merge your
add-on solution with Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur, including integrating the configuration
process with the Setup Wizard and combining multiple add-on solutions. Some build centers might
even offer to provide support for your solution. Build centers can help you focus on your key areas of
expertise by assisting you with the tasks that can distract from developing a competitive product. ISVs

Microsoft Dynamics Entrepreneur and its scalable distribution model, you have a strong partner by
