Senior Plastics Production/Maintenance Manager, 1998 to 2005
* Assumed maintenance manager position approximately 24 months of tenure as prod
uction manager. Utilized team-based production, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, JIT and
Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce costs and improve productivity. Institu
ted a safety program to review and resolve accidents, identify safety issues and
provide training.
* Utilized and integrated 5S programs to further improve the safety of the facil
ity. Implemented a continuous quality improvement initiative to improve quality
through cross-training on various positions and equipment. Instituted an open d
oor policy to report any quality issues and personally wrote in excess of 100 St
andard Operating Procedures. Developed and managed company assets through a pre
ventative maintenance program.
* First year efficiencies rose 6%. Six Sigma goals were reached each year with a
1st year goal of $500,000 progressing to $900,000 a year by the 4th year.
* Personally achieved Coleman's equivalent of a Six Sigma Black Belt certificati
on for three years, with three out of four supervisors and five floor personal a
lso attaining Black Belt certification, as well as 21 floor personal that reache
d Green Belt certification.
Plastics Industrial/Manufacturing Engineer, 1993 to 1998
* Laterally promoted to the Industrial Engineering position and was subsequently
promoted to Manufacturing Engineer. Tasked with evaluating and establishing pr
oduct costs and manufacturability and present solutions to reduce costs for curr
ently manufactured products. Evaluated production processes to identify areas f
or increased efficiency, introduced automation to the process where feasible and
designed and implemented improved production flows to increase efficiencies and
reduce scrap.
* Performed testing on the urethane systems to qualify alternate vendors. Tested
and changed the high-density polyethylene from 5202 to 5502 (stiffer material)
resulting in a decrease in material needed and substantial cost savings. Trouble
shot process issues.
* Decreased handling of parts by installation of overhead conveying systems. Ove
rsaw mold modifications. Modified blow molding tooling that resulted in better p
art material distribution.
Plastics Department Manager, 1988 to 1993
* Promoted to oversee a staff of three supervisors and 115 employees in a 24/7 o
peration Concentrated heavily on machine repairs and part quality issues. Analy
zed tooling and material distribution in the blowmold and sheet production areas
.
* Increased the sheet quality from +/- .003" to + 0/- .003" and reduced sheet pr
oduction labor by 50%. First year, lost $101,000 to budget ($100,000 of it was i
n machine repair labor and material costs,). Second year, the department made i
n excess of $100,000 to budget due to increased efficiencies, reduced scrap and
an increase in quality.
